Trading back into the 1st round ?

I'd rather talk to myself than to Gipper.
It's easier to talk to myself than a wall that stopped retaining new information in 1980

And yet, it is I who provide most of the interesting information that is posted on this board...while all you can talk about is whatever Michigan dork you are having orgasms over.

Sure I google. Sure I look stuff up....be it football facts or legal cases. That is what smart people do. (Should I provide a bibliography with every post?)

Is that the only guy you can ever talk about? He might be a guy the Browns could use, but you are turning into a One Trick Pony.
Being the biggest (only?) Michigan fan on this board, I have more background on those prospects. I'm going to talk about them. I've posted about Butt as well. Hell, I've posted about a lot of other prospects. Pepper's is just a prospect that generates a lot of conversation.

If I remember correctly Smith had to have surgery on his intestines right before he was gonna get a shot in Baltimore

The Browns don't have to trade down to get a shit player. They can stand pat and do that just fine.
You mean they are taking Trubisky ?

Then are trade backs and then there's this...
ESPN.COM: Bill Barnwell (Posted April 17)
Barnwell begins his post with "Mock drafts are ridiculous." Then proceeds to do perhaps the most ridiculous mock draft we've seen: an all-trade model.
Barnwell has the Browns involved in a three-team deal right off the bat. The Browns trade the No. 1 pick, a 2018 conditional fourth-rounder and Josh Gordon to the Patriots, and No. 53 overall and Cody Kessler to the Saints. In return, the Browns get QB Jimmy Garoppolo and a 2018 conditional fifth-rounder from the Patriots, and the No. 11 pick and LB Stephone Anthony from the Saints.
Is your head spinning yet?
"The Browns get their franchise quarterback while moving down 10 spots in the first round, leaving them with consecutive selections at 11 and 12. They miss out on Garrett, of course, but in a draft that is deep with pass-rushers, Cleveland shouldn't have trouble adding a useful contributor with one of its six picks in the top 80."
Barnwell then has the Browns taking their No. 12 pick, along with No. 65 to the Rams for pick 37 and a 2018 first-rounder.
The deals in the mock draft don't all build off one another. They're more like standalone proposals. For example, despite trading the No. 12 pick to the Rams, Barnwell has the Browns using the No. 12 pick in a deal with the Buccaneers at No. 19 and with the Lions at No. 21.
Barnwell also has a trade between the Browns and Saints in which the Saints get No. 1 and 65 overall, and Joe Haden, in exchange for Nos. 11, 32, 42, a 2018 third-rounder and 2019 first-rounder.
Wrote Barnwell: "This mock draft started with a crazy trade, so let's end with one, too."
WHEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee... First-Pick's got nuttin' on this guy...
-
I suspect he was actually playing firstpick to come up with this hairbrained "draft". It does that ya know.

I actually think this deal is as good as done DEPENDING on whether or not our QB is available. If Trubisky is truly our #1 QB prospect, he won't be available at 20. Do I know this for sure? Of course not, but I'd say Trubisky is ranked by 90% of analysts as the #1 prospect, so when was the last time the majority #1 prospect at the QB position lasted until #20? Never right? Soooooo....who is our #2 guy? We don't know for sure that Trubisky is indeed our #1 prospect, but it's what's been reported by virtually all writers for the past 6 weeks, so we'll go with it. But has anybody heard anything concrete about the people behind Trubisky? Only things I've read is that we liked Dobbs and Davis Webb because we got a chance to work with them at the Senior Bowl. While I've seen SOME analysts say Davis Webb will enter the bottom side of the first round, it's definitely not for sure. Dobbs on the other hand has never been slotted in the first, so we wouldn't NEED to trade up for him.
Here's the bottom line: Is it worth it to give up resources to trade up for Davis Webb? I'm not so sure. I don't LOVE what I read about the guy, AND he's yet another "Air Raid" guy that will likely take a good amount of time to adjust. The aforementioned trade will probably happen if Trubisky is on the board at 20, but who in the hell truly expects THAT to be the case?
-
Just curious and too bored to research it. How many number one draft choices have gone on to be multiple Pro Bowl participants and how many have been disappointments. Disappointment I think is defined by being an average player or less considering the high spot.

... I'd say Trubisky is ranked by 90% of analysts as the #1 prospect, so when was the last time the majority #1 prospect at the QB position lasted until #20?
But how many of those same analysts rank Trubs:
- in the top 20 strictly based upon talent?
- behind the likes of backups like Garropolo and McCarron?
- vs. recent top picks like Mariota and Winston?
- vs. recent "bargains" like Carr and Teddy B?
While those others may not in fact be options for various reasons, they are still a valid frame of reference. If a couple of those talents were available this draft, then we'd be talking about Trubs like we did Carr a couple drafts ago... a nice potential value around pick 32 or 33... and hoping he turned out as well as Carr did.
Just curious and too bored to research it. How many number one draft choices have gone on to be multiple Pro Bowl participants and how many have been disappointments. Disappointment I think is defined by being an average player or less considering the high spot.
Recently read, and want to say I posted here, an article that looked at that... although I think it looked at other high picks as well as first overalls.
Anyway the percentage of non-QB picks that made Pro-Bowls was pretty high... much higher than the QB percentage.
I'll see if I can find it... and here it is...
http://www.cleveland...rry_ta_111.html
EDIT: Conclusions were:
1. Five of the seven non-quarterbacks picked at top of the draft have made Pro Bowls.
2. Fisher was the top pick in the awful 2013 draft. At least he is a viable starter and has been rewarded with a contract extension. Six of the top 10 picks in 2013 are with different teams, including Browns selection of Barkevious Mingo. No. 2 pick Luke Joeckel has had major knee problems. No. 3 pick Dion Jordan has been a nightmare with suspensions, etc.
3. Besides Fisher, the other top pick not to make a Pro Bowl was Courtney Brown.

Too much time on people's hands. The draft should happen 3 weeks to a month earlier than it does.
Look at this:
The 1970 National Football League draft was held January 27–28, 1970, at the Belmont Plaza Hotel in New York City, New York.[1][2]
But then , just 10 years later:
The 1980 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held April 29–30, 1980,

Here are some numbers, going back to 1950. Including the few years of the AFL draft, there have been 73 #1 overall picks:
38 of the 73 made multiple (2 or more) Pro Bowls....about 52%
6 made just 1 Pro Bowl
29 made -0- Pro Bowls...or 39.7 % I guess these latter ones would be minimally the disappointing ones.
And, in case you were wondering, naturally the Browns get the shit end of the stick. Of their 3 #1, none of them made a single Pro Bowl (Garrett, Garrett..errr...just one Garrett, Couch, C. Brown)
Of those 73 #1s....12 became Hall of Famers. One is a certain HOFer (Peyton). Brother Eli has a fair chance of becoming one. Then there are the likes of Cam Newton, Stafford, Winston and a few others that may have a chance, but it is far too early in their careers to tell.
The roll call of clear, out and out busts at #1 include the likes of Bobby Garrett, Randy Duncan, George Shaw, Terry Baker, Jamarcus Russell, Kijana Carter, Steve Emtman, Aundray Bruce, Ricky Bell, Jack Concannon, Garry Glick, King Hill.
Injuries happened to some....including Bo Jackson.

Does that 3-way trade for #1 even make sense?
-
The 12 #1s overall who are already in HOF:
Paul Hornung
Earl Campbell
Leroy Selmon
Buck Buchanan
Joe Namath
Ron Yary
Troy Aikman
OJ Simpson
Orlando Pace
Terry Bradshaw
John Elway
Bruce Smith

Certain kinds of 3 ways make some sense, yes.

I said shit player. They are taking Deshit Watson.
Trubisky will wind up with the Jets, who as you know, have a much better history for drafting winning QBs that do the Browns.
Not much, not really. Who for the Jets has been worth much since Broadway Joe?
