Andrew Berry and Sashi presser

The Browns Board
68 21 1.8k
  • On if it would be a stretch philosophically to trade up in the first round or if it is a possibility:

Brown: β€œWe are open to it. Generally, we value picks. We think no matter how prepared you are there is always a lot of uncertainty in the draft. Every team misses. We are not going to be different in that regard.

We like young talent. We have said the draft is going to be the pipeline. We don’t want to get into a habit of turning two picks into one, so to speak. We just don’t think that is a good way to do business over time.

We have studied this around the league, and it is just our inclination. It does not mean that if there is a player there we might not go take a shot. We think we are positioned to be able to do that without impacting our draft much.”

  • Just finished watching the presser. Here are my takeaways:

1.) Myles Garrett is their guy at #1

2.) They are extremely confident in what they have planned for this team. The front office is in line with the coaching staff

3.) No Jimmy G or AJ McCarron

4.) They really value and therefore want to keep their 1st and 2nd round draft picks over the next 2 years to build this roster

5.) The Browns are going to stick to their draft board for the most part. Don't expect the wheeling and dealing all the draft guru's are calling for them. They will go BPA with exceptions to the rule if it is truly going to make the team better

6.) Don't be surprised if they do not pick a qb with the first 2 picks

7.) Sashi loves to diss and discredit MKC

8.) They have already begun scouting for the 2018 draft per Sashi

Maybe not at the slimming field of Safety positions? Will be interesting to see how they/(G.Williams) values a good S vs FS vs CB early or late? ST Return skills always a nice find also

MKC does draw the shortest answers.... maybe if her questions were shorter... or better...

On the Browns philosophy on drafting the best overall player or for need, including weighing when it might be beneficial to reach for a specific position of need compared to where a player ranks on the draft board:

All of that comes into consideration overall talent, positional value and need on the current roster. It really just depends on the circumstance. It depends on where you are picking in the round and what other opportunities may be available later in the draft, depending on how deep a particular position is."

    And there it is...

    Secondary a late concern?

    @htownbrown said:

    Secondary a late concern?

Maybe, but also could mean it is simply not an early concern...

Other side of the same coin maybe, but I am talking about very early as in Adams or Hooker at 12 or higher. And when I think "late", I think Day 2... starting at #33.

When did the roster review in Gip's Current Browns thread, I came away thinking all the need is at FS where our two best rostered players, Powell and Reynolds, feel like they'd make kick-ass SSs. And that's them atop Campbell...

Powell's speed may put him in play at FS, but no one ever said speed is bad for a SS...

sit the orange kool-aid down πŸ˜‰ Powell was a boarder line PS player coming from a good defensive club in Seattle.I like our odds coming to a browns roster. Campbell & Reynolds together were no better than Jordan Poyer now playing at Eagles(utes)..Go get Adams or Hooker from 12..Lets Lay some wood on Green & Ant. Brown...not splinters

  • On how much of an understanding the Browns have with what may occur prior to the team’s second pick at No. 12 overall:

    Brown:

We do a lot of work on that. We do quite a bit of scenario planning and you start to dig.

    Music to my ears...

If they're rolling with Kess ( fine with that) and Kizer drops, as I said a while ago - fine with trading down from 12. Ideally getting a 2nd or 3rd in return would be nice.

I'm imagining a scenario trading down from 12, netting another 2nd rounder, taking OJH with our additional first then seeing the staff bundle two 2nds to move up late day 1 and snag Kizer.

Or perhaps just standing pat after trading down. Myles, OJH then DB, LB and Oline.

  • Up until a few weeks ago MKC was pounding the table that the Browns

would not take Garrett at #1. Said the people she was talking to

didnt like him. In other words pencil him in at #!.

Or not at all. Those hearts coming out of her head were intended for her big crush on Jimmy G. Man Sashi got her good for stirring up shit that had no basis in fact. Now watch her get all POed because she got humiliated, rightly so (and print) more crap just to get back at the FO. Gosh do I miss guys like Hal Lebowitz.

As far a Sashit making a pun................maybe he should switch careers and try stand up comedy because he sure has nothing to be smug about when it comes to selecting talent. Smug cocksucker knows it all................ until next year when he is out of a job and we again have a pile of shit players.

Maybe he should call the PD sports editor first, and tell him to find someone with a couple communicating neurons to cover the Browns.

  • I like our FO. I like Nassib, Ogbah, Coleman are all studs. I'm hoping for more.

    Garrett, Shelton, Bryant, Nassib

    Ogbah, Kirksey, Collins, Orchard

    Haden, Taylor, BBC,

... We need some stud safeties now.

I like King(Desmond) and Justin Evans for a duo. Maybe add Jourdan at CB or Kevin King would be good too.

Our Defense is going to be legit. Especially with our new Defensive coordinator.

Just saying that my review led me to conclude that our draft need is greater at FS, far greater than I'd previously thought... that we have more and better options at SS... not that at we have a rostered pair ready to roll in a Cover-2.

Powell's ceiling? We'll see... Seattle's not exactly the easiest 2ndary to break into. He was a good Buckeye who "brought it" from many spots in Fickle's D, and has the "FS speed" and size to cover TEs. But I'm not saying he's the answer at FS... just that he has more FS potential than Reynolds, who lacks FS speed, but also hits hard and seems like a better fit at SS.

    My Bottom line...

    • I love Adams, who I think has the talent and physical gifts to play either Safety spot, but I'm not sure I draft him intending to put him at FS.
    • I have questions about Hooker that I've posted before...
    • I love Marcus Williams and his value at #33.
    • I really like Josh Jones' SS value in the 2nd... and recently saw him mocked as a late-1st.

Give me Williams and our rostered SS candidates, and I think we'll make great strides shoring up our deep middle.

Mary Kay will soon have to live with the reality that a lot of all y'all will have to face: talking/dealing with the actual players the Browns take and not carrying on and on with they should take or who you want them to take.

I mean, enough Fantasy Draft BS.
