We just had the 2017 draft. Here I am going back to the 2014 and giving the teams that drafted that year some grades. I am going to relate the players picked by each team that I consider Plus + players, and those who I consider medium contributors ?? players. Just giving the numbers for each team, not each player.

To see the entire 2014 draft you can go here:

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2014/draft.htm

Believe it or not, the team with the most plus and medium players is:

    Jacksonville Jaguars 3 + and 2 ?? players.

Only 3 other teams had 3+ players: Tennessee, Oakland (Mack/Carr included) and Green Bay

But they each had fewer medium contributors. Here is the entire rundown:

    Jacksonville 3+ and 2 ?? total: 5 decent players Grade: A

    Oakland 3+ and 1 ?? total: 4 decent players Grade: A-

    Green Bay 3+ and 1 ?? total: 4 decent players Grade A-

    Minnesota 2+ and 2?? players total: 4 Grade B+

    NY Giants 2+ and 2?? total: 4 Grade B+

    Washington 2+ and 2?? total: 4 Grade B+

    Atlanta 2+ and 2?? total: 4 Grade B+

    Buffalo 2+ and 2 ?? total: 4 Grade B+

    Carolina 2+ and 2?? total: 4 Grade B+

    Houston 1+ and 3?? total: 4 Grade B

    Tennessee 3+ and -0-?? total: 3 Grade B

    Pittsburgh 2+ and 1 ?? total: 3 Grade B-

    Dallas 2+ and 1?? total: 3 Grade B-

    Rams 2+ and 1?? total: 3 Grade B-

    Tampa Bay 1+ and 2?? total 3 Grade C+

    Kansas City 1+ and 2?? total: 3 Grade C+

    New England 0+ and 3?? total: 3 Grade C

    Miami 2+ and 0 ?? total: 2 Grade C

    Baltimore 2+ and 0?? total: 2 Grade C

    Cincy 2+ and 0?? total: 2 Grade C

    Arizona 2+ and 0?? total: 2 Grade C

Cleveland 2+ and 0?? total: 2 (Bito and Kirksey) Grade C

    Chicago 1+ and 1?? total: 2 Grade C-

    Indy: 1+ and 1?? total: 2 Grade C-

    Detroit 1+ and 1?? total: 2 Grade C-

    San Fran 0+ and 2?? total: 2 Grade D+

    Denver 0+ and 2?? total: 2 Grade D+

    New Orleans 1+ and 0?? total: 1 Grade D

    Philly 1+ and 0?? total: 1 Grade: D

    Seattle 1+ and 0?? total: 1 Grade D

    Chargers 0+ and 1?? total: 1 Grade D-

    NYJets 0+ and 1?? total: 1 Grade D-

Obviously just because a team has a bad or good grade in one year is no measurement of how good or bad the overall team is. Jacksonville's A did not give them that many wins. Seattle's D is not reflective of how good that team is otherwise.

One thing I really could not do here was to say which team really had the best of the best of players.

In my next post I may try to get to that.

Here is another way of doing it. The following accumulates all the Career Production Average points earned by all the players for each team in that 2014 draft. In theory then, this should tell you which teams got the most and least production out of its players drafted that year:

      Jaguars 108 pts.

      Raiders 107 pts.

      Rams 97 pts.

      Falcons 78 pts.

      NYGiants 78 pts.

      Vikings 77 pts.

      Bills 76 pts

      Packers 76 pts.

      Ravens 69 pts.

      Titans 65 pts.

      Redskins 64 pts.

      Panthers 63 pts.

      Cowboys 62 pts.

      49ers 61 pts.

      Texans 61 pts

      Dolphins 60 pts.

      Steelers 55 pts.

      Bengals 54 pts.

      Bucs 54 pts.

      Chiefs 51 pts.

      Lions 50 pts.

      Browns 49 pts.

      Bears 48 pts.

      Pats 45 pts.

      Cardinals 44 pts

      Broncos 42 pts.

      Colts 40 pts.

      Eagles 39 pts.

      Seahawks 37 pts.

      NYJets 33 pts.

      Chargers 27 pts.

      Saints 26 pts.

Can't wait to spend an hour researching all the picks so I can post an informed opinion that you can say is wrong...

Maybe tomorrow... if I'm not busy cleaning the lint filter in my dryer...

I am using some pretty raw data there. If you would say that there is no way that the Jags would have had the best overall draft that year, I would not likely dispute that...but that is what these two methods seem to indicate.

The Raiders, on the other hand, with Mack and Carr, seems a right choice. (and, of course, yes, the Browns could have had them both)

Plus...this raw data does not take into account the busts that a team may have had. The Browns had Gilbert and Manziel in that draft....and how could they garner close to a C grade with that? Well, Bito and Kirksey helped some.
