it'll go osweiller to kessler then kizer.
i'm hoping kizer will make strides, and the browns will go 9-7 and clinch the playoffs

So you guys don't see Kizer as the starter if not for the beginning of the season soon after? You don't think hes Jackson's guy?

Week 14... four game audition. Book it!
I think Hue's "guy" is whoever can run his Offense best. I can't see Kizer being that guy Week 1 or anytime "soon". But you have to "know" and if Kizer's not ready to perform decently in live games by Week 14, then we have to know that. If he does not improve thru the last quarter of the season, we have to knkow that.

I dont know how they'll go about it.....but do you think we would be considering drafting yet another QB next year, if Kizer doesnt perform well in limited play this year?.....

Here's my take:
- We will know about Kess. He'll get the early work and plenty of it. If he has in fact improved his "arm strength", a/k/a throwing velocity, by whatever means (or even if he simply believes he has), and it shows in his aggression, then he may have a shot to be the guy. If not, then...
- We will know about Brockweiler... and after a lot less playing time than Kess. Either he shows he is back on the track that made him the FA darling of the Broncos and Texans, or he shows he's the wannabe starter that he was in Houston. If he's the former, then he has a shot.
- We may not know about Kizer. So many scenarios on him that the answer to the question he presents may elude us 2017. First, there's the timetable for his learning curve on the basics. It seems like the early, mechanical signs are positive, but the pressure is not real yet. Then there's the "filmroom analyses"... can he diagnose a D and make the correct calls in air conditioned comfort? Then there's the four-game audition I've booked...
In those four games Kizer doesn't have to "succeed", although that would be nice, he just has to progress. If he does, then he's a viable option for 2018... and maybe beyond.
What was the question?

Bottom line: I do not see our QB draft plans for 2018 riding solely on Kizer's 2017 showing... he's a factor, a significant factor, but not the only one. For us to not be a significant player in the 2018 QB draft, I think Kizer's promise and that of one other competitor have to emerge. And even then we still might add a top prospect to the mix. QB talent is the second best "currency" in the NFL.

Good answer......and, of course, one factor I hadnt really consider......and a very obvious factor.....would be the caliber of prospect that is available when we're picking....
If he's GREAT.....then we probably tap him, no matter what.......if he's so so(like this years crop was) then Kessler and Kizers play may factor in.....if they did ok, we pass.....and if they suck rocks, then we pick and pray......

And this is one of the biggest disadvantages of subscribing to the "let the rookie QB sit and learn" theory. If our coaches truly don't know if Kizer can be "the guy", that will leave us with no choice but to draft yet another QB in 2018, and probably VERY early. When you're the Browns, and you haven't had a consistent QB since the 99 return, you can't sit back and hope that Kizer is the answer. It would completely suck to use yet another high pick on the QB position, but in this case, we wouldn't have a choice. It's probably the main reason for our team trading back from 12 to acquire another 1st rounder in 2018. If Kizer doesn't play much or at all this year, I'd bet my bottom dollar we take a QB with our first pick next year, especially considering the "way too damn early" projection for the QB class is very good for 2018. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, I think the Texans' first round pick will be much higher than people may think, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was top 12 or so. Suppose we win 3-4 games...that puts our pick in the top 8, right? We take another QB shot around 8, and then we draft another need with the Texans' pick. And don't forget our THREE second rounders either.
Conversely, if Kizer DOES play a lot, and DOES appear to have the goods, that makes it even MORE complicated. Have we seen enough to completely pass on QB's early in the draft? Knowing that if we're wrong, EVERYONE loses their job? And what exactly is "enough"? At this time, I see very little hope of us avoiding the dreaded first round QB selection.

On the QBs: It would not bother me if the Browns took another QB high next year, even after taking Kizer in round 2 this year. Why?:
A. Because we have the draft picks and can afford to do so. B. Because I do not believe anything will be proven/resolved about our QB situation after this year. and C. If both Kizer and whomever they draft turn out good.....all the better. If didn't hurt the 49ers to have both Montana and Steve Young on their roster; it didn't hurt the Packers to have both Favre and Rodgers on their roster. It didn't hurt the Rams to have both Bob Waterfield and Norm Van Brocklin on the field.
That brings up an interesting trivia/poll question: What was the best 1-2 QB tandem to play on a single team?
Montana/Young have to be up there...both HOF.
Waterfield/Van Brocklin the same...both HOF.
Who else?
Raiders had Lamonica and Blanda....though by that time Blanda was an older backup and kicker
Cowboys had Staubach and Morton. One of them had to go...and it was Morton. (who did take the Broncos to a Super Bowl)
What was the best in Browns history? Bernie/Vinny? Probably not.

Not really.....I might not have hurt, but in both cases they did not co-exist.....Montana demanded a trade and Favre was cut loose......same issue is about to arise with Garapolo....why?.....cause you cant pay 2 QB's starter money and, if they are starter quality, you have to or they will walk......so, it's not realistic anymore to think you can keep 2 starters on one team.....

So damned if you do and damned if you don't?
I don't mind trying the sit and learn approach for a change. Lord knows we done the sink or swim thing to death. 13 weeks of bench learnin' works for me...
And again... QBs are currency in this league. Would but we have to sort thru 3 viable, starter candidates this preseason... and then trade one for draft capital to potentially deal for position to trade for an even better prospect and repeat the sorting in 2018.
Pretty sure that's an approach we haven't taken in a long, long time... if ever.

How about this: let's have 2 HOF caliber QBs playing for this team....and then determine if it works out or not....determine if they can co-exist or not. Then we can judge.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha....oh my......
How about this?....let's find one QB who is good enough to win a couple games, before we start talking about what to do with 2 HOF QB's.....

Why shoot at the dirt if you can shoot at the moon? But, OK, I get it....lets try a shot that is at least parallel to the ground.
