In fact a kicker I identified as headed for greatness one night at a local high school game had actually come from HS soccer. Never seen anything like it at that level. The ball went so far on one field goal that it actually disappeared into the night outside the stadium lights. Later became the Lou Groza runner-up the year he became Colorado's all-time leading scorer and then got his Superbowl ring with Green Bay. Mason Crosby-Georgetown, Texas local hero.

The Curmudgeon checking in. Yup- won the Groza award. So did a lot of other guys. Only two of note Janikowski and Nugent. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lou_Groza_Award

I well remember we shoulda drafted automatica Gramattica- probably not. Worth a 7th Cal- but will he choke when he's getting paid?

Lol...people forget that was a 47 yarder. At that time, a 47 yarder wasn't a gimmie like some of these kickers make 'em look today.

Good luck to Gonzalez. I'm glad they got him.

what's interesting is that espn'dah fired a bunch of writers but kept this one 😉. Far to long of a read for a kicker,Cal. Could not get past reading his family story. Their once was a Mexican who became a Texaican who divorced his suey wife from Arkansas. This fine Texaican that speaks fluid Spanish Mexican for some godly unknown reason gets custody of the 3 minor siblings. Not a damn one of them speaks siblings Spanish. This could get troubling when uncle Carlos brings aunt Carrol'o..Any who? Annie & Lynics surely can log every kick. Parkey rarely got the chance to kickoff anything but for when Hue deferred kick-offs (damn we could call heads or tails though) But when he did, Parkey had great hang-time with fair location..At Camp did you scout the exciting kick-off technique of Sen'or Gonzo? grosh-ash Amigo

All the videos I seen of him kicking 50 plus yards were in games where they had a nice lead or early in the game. Would like to see him under pressure and I don't mean the lame ass band Queen and their lame ass song.

I'd think so. A team rarely uses a draft pick on a kicker they don't plan on keeping around, even in the 7th round. Obviously if he sucks it up in camp they didn't invest heavily in the guy, but I'd imagine he's the starter week one.

One of the best songs ever. But it was Queen, with Bowie as "Guest star".
