Graham did not wear the highest number by a Browns starting QB in their history. I thought it was George Ratterman who wore #62, but it was actually Cliff Lewis.

Cool list of questions though! Man, most of these were tough.

My source did not list Ratterman having worn that number.  Nor did it list Cliff Lewis having actually ever starting a game for the Browns.  If you have different info...please advise with a link or something.

    OK, I stand corrected, Thanks

Also, for question 11....both Ratterman and Lewis started games in lieu of OG.

  • Interim Report:   Questions not fully answered.   There are only 3:

    4. Besides Tim Couch, what QB also wore the lowest uniform number in Browns history?

    6. Besides Frank Ryan, what 2 other QBs made multiple Pro Bowls?

    13. Which Browns starting QB had the highest yards per game average for his career?

I bet a person could win a TON of bar bets with that one!

  • 6. Graham and Sipe?

OG, yes, not Sipe.....who made only 1 PB appearance.

One other QB here....a bit of a surprise, perhaps.

This is tough. We've confirmed Graham and Ryan. Other Browns QBs who started for multiple seasons who didn't make 2 Pro Bowls include Bill Nelson, Mike Phipps, Brian Sipe, Bernie Kosar. I highly doubt Testaverde or Couch made even one Pro Bowl. How about Milt Plum? I know he put up at least one really good season and started another year or so.

    NO

  • I will describe a Quarterback that has started a game/games for the Browns.  You name that QB:

    1. He went 1-0 as a starter for the Browns.  And that put him into the Hall of Fame!

    2. The other Browns starting QB besides the one named in question #1 that is in the HOF

    3. He had the most wins and most losses as a Browns starting QB.

    4. These 2 QBs wore the lowest uniform number ever worn by a Browns starting QB.

    5. He wore the highest uniform number ever worn by a Browns starting QB.

    6. The three Browns starting QBs that were named to more than one Pro Bowl.

    7. The only Ohio St. QB to ever start a game for the Browns.

    8. The only Browns starting QB to have acquired a PhD.

    9. The only Browns starting QB to be a dentist.

    10. The only Browns starting QB that is now an NFL Head Coach

    11. The only QB to have started a game in place of Otto Graham while he OG was here.

    12. A. The Browns QB to have the most starts without ever having won a game he started

    B. The Browns QB to have the most starts without ever losing a game he started. (regular season)

    13. The Browns starting QB with the highest career average in yards per game (with the Browns)

    14. A. The last Browns QB to start a playoff game.

    B. The last Browns QB to win a playoff game.

    15. The last Brows QB to start every game in a season.

    16. These 2 QBs are the only QBs to start a game for the Browns who attended Notre Dame.   (to date)

    Answers:

    1. He went 1-0 as a starter for the Browns.  And that put him into the Hall of Fame!

Len Dawson...of course, he did a little better with the Chiefs.

    2. The other Browns starting QB besides the one named in question #1 that is in the HOF

    Otto Graham, of course.

    3. He had the most wins and most losses as a Browns starting QB.

    Brian Sipe, both stats.

    4. These 2 QBs wore the lowest uniform number ever worn by a Browns starting QB.

Tim Couch and John P. Manziel....both wore #2

    5. He wore the highest uniform number ever worn by a Browns starting QB.

Apparently it was Cliff Lewis...who wore #62 in the AAFC.  Graham wore #60....but switched to #14 when Browns joined the NFL.

    6. The three Browns starting QBs that were named to more than one Pro Bowl.

Otto Graham...5 times in the NFL years.  Frank Ryan 3, Milt Plum twice.  No one else more than once.

    7. The only Ohio St. QB to ever start a game for the Browns.

    Mike Tomczak

    8. The only Browns starting QB to have acquired a PhD.

    Dr. Frank Ryan...from Rice, I believe...in mathematics.

    9. The only Browns starting QB to be a dentist.

Dr. Davis Mays.   FYI...as far as I know...he is also the only former Browns QB charged with attempted murder. Yep, he was.

    10. The only Browns starting QB that is now an NFL Head Coach

Doug Pederson, now HC of the Eagles.

    11. The only QB to have started a game in place of Otto Graham while he OG was here.

Again, apparently there were 2:  Cliff Lewis and George Ratterman

    12. A. The Browns QB to have the most starts without ever having won a game he started

Cody Kessler sits at 0-8 as a starting QB to this point.

    B. The Browns QB to have the most starts without ever losing a game he started. (regular season)

Don Strock at 2-0   (though I believe he was the starting QB of a playoff loss to the Oilers)

    13. The Browns starting QB with the highest career average in yards per game (with the Browns)

    Josh McCown 246.8 ypg

    14. A. The last Browns QB to start a playoff game.

    Kelly Holcomb

    B. The last Browns QB to win a playoff game.

    Vinny Testeverde

    15. The last Brows QB to start every game in a season.

    Tim Couch in 2001

    16. These 2 QBs are the only QBs to start a game for the Browns who attended Notre Dame.   (to date)

George Ratterman and Brady Quinn.   Kizer to join them apparently.  Not a lot of success...Ratterman was like 10-3-1, which is success, but brief. Quinn defines suckage.

  • Thanks for doing this Gip, it was fun!

  • I dutch ovened my wife this morning.  She wasn't very happy.
