  • If this results in extra security checking bags upon checking into a hotel room, this could become more inconvenient than airport security. There are already long lines at Vegas casinos for players that don't carry high status. This guy seemed like a pretty big fish, a frequent gambler that would probably skirt any added security anyhow.

I hope this doesn't add to the already stepped up security at venues. This guy checked into his hotel room 3-days earlier and sat, stockpiled, and waited. Not much you can do about that and I hope we don't think that we can instil some new measure that inconveniences millions upon millions from here on out.

So you carry a gun on your hip? Haha, start popping off a round here and there at the mammoth Mandalay Bay while this cat makes it rain 700 rounds at a time on ya? This guy just upped the bar ... makes your squirt gun obsolete.

Just like the shoes in the airports. Because one nut figured out how to stuff enough high explosives in one to blow a hole in the side of an airplane.

As my buddy in Alaska said when I brought my .357 up there for "protection".  "You're just going to make the bear mad with that peashooter."

It's been said- those who would trade freedom for security will have neither.

    Haha ... exactly.

People are going to do what they are going to do. Build a wall around a venue and you just trap everyone within, check every bag entering and they hit you from the outside. I just hope we don't think we are going to regulate this one.

Only thing I can think of, is that if you kill 58 people, we take 58 of your family members off the face of the earth. An eye for an eye. Sucks, but maybe that is why some animals eat their young.

Completely agreed Stan, if that's the case in vegas it could potentially take hours to check-in. Last thing we need, is TSA for the casinos.

  • What we need is EVERYONE to have a gun on them.  Right?  That way we'll ALL be safe.

Can you imagine if everyone had a gun at the concert?   People would've been shooting willy nilly in all directions thinking that EVERYONE else was the shooter.

Or better yet, someone yells, "It's coming from that hotel!".  And then everyone's firing willy nilly at the hotel.  ANYWHERE at the hotel.

Or better event and casino security. They have cameras everywhere.

  • I was at urbans first game coaching the Bucks vs Ohio hadn't been there for years and I noticed driving in snipers on top of buildings (thought it was cause paul ryan was at the game) but no I was told just par for the course after 9-11 there were also packs of sherrifs wondering through the tailgate area(was told it was wise to drink out of the red plastic cup)

  • We need to have a better mental health system in our country.

We need to make medicine and healthcare a right to all US civilians and work out the billing later.

We need to give people a living wage for an honest days work.

We also need to help one another.

We need peace. We need to love and respect each other. We need "The Almighty God" to come back into America's life.

We need to respect each other and make sure that the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is never in danger of being stolen away.

  • I don't know about that. Some people might consider the lot of us Browns Fans here, mentally ill.

Well you certainly have rolls enough to conceal a gun.

And you have a **MASK** to hide one in. TN doesn't require the gun to be concealed. I wear it on my hip. I also have a permit to carry it openly in NV.

You may very well be the fantasy "good guy with a gun" in that scenario --- but please ask yourself this : Do you really, truly trust police to accurately determine that you are NOT one of if not the bad guy? Their rule is: Nobody standing is armed, and do whatever it takes to make that happen.. not "the only standing are the good guys".  Tactics are no longer to wait for SWAT, they now go towards and start clearing.

And when you say yes.. in at least one case, 2 young guys who actually served avoided going towards the active shooter event [I believe this was the Umpqua Community College in Oregon] because they didn't want to get mis-identified and they knew police were no closer than them..

Fun fact: Remove insurance companies and you change nothing except put insurance companies out of a job and increase the ability of providers to upgrade systems & fill vacancies.  Capitation means that no matter the length of stay, the payout is split between insurance and hospital.

[Hint: Due to EMTALA, hospitals are already providing the service and billing Medicare..]

Sadly, the removal of state mental health was bipartisan.. however the contract covering the expenses of the yo-yoing of homeless to subacute MH [drunk tank and even the acutely psychotic who belong in a higher level but none is available] is.... darn near if not more than the cost for running an asylum.  It's just now a less publicized source of bezzle!

...and now it seems that Tom Petty is probably going to join him.

  • well, concealed carry is an excellent thing. But in a crowd, not that many people get training to know how to act in a crowd. In a steak house, some nut comes in and starts shooting for the hell of it...I would draw and hopefully shoot him before any patron has to die. But in a crowd bigger crowd with police actively engaged?  I'm behind cover, and would only shoot if I had NO CHOICE, and as long as I had a clear shot with no innocents being in the way. With police there, that is a serious different deal. I've talked with my ccw instructor about some of these things - he started teaching advanced classes, which I haven't taken yet.

In a crowded movie theater? big trouble, serious complications. scatter movement, ricochet dangers, probably? low light scenario...   ccw isn't much of an option. Two years ago, in Missouri, we were traveling cross country from Texas, and I actually called the movie theater, explaining that we were traveling, and wanted to see the movie about the Rocky Mountain railroad, and I didn't want to leave my ccw in the hotel room or car... etc. She said my Ohio ccw was absolutely accepted, and was fine in the movie theater as long as it is concealed. But If something were to happen...I can't imagine having a clear shot unless the terrorist shooter was too close.

We are far, far removed from the baby face nelson gangster/organized crime days. but there are still mentally deranged people who come out of the woodwork. and as in Australia, you can take all the guns from the people, but bad guys will still get guns, and knives, etc, and still murder, rape and pillage.

Sadly, as most every time?... it was a gun free zone in Las Vegas. You have to wonder if terrorists will hijack a plane again..

huge sporting event... ccw won't help anything anyways. The world is getting to be a more dangerous place all the time, I think...with large crowds at sporting events being the norm.

I think I'd rather go camping.....

  • The security at Wembley stadium last week for the Ravens Jaguars game was most I’ve seen over here at a sporting event

    Can't say I wasn't wondering a little...

With the recent attack on concert goers in Las Vegas last night.

    1. How safe do you feel attending an NFL or other U.S. major sporting event?
    2. What changes in security measures do you foresee at future events?

I've never felt apprehensive about a sporting event or concert or other large gathering where I knew there would be "security". But as I said above it was crossing my mind during the London trip's formative stages. Now I'm good.

Movie theaters? Different story... after the second theater shooting I have to admit to being a little concerned. After the third in three years a little more. That said I go "to the movies" so seldom anyway, it's a non-factor.

    @oldbrownsfan said:

Whatever security they would have had in the Las Vegas concert it would not have stopped the Las Vegas murderer/shooter who was perched in a hotel room and not actually at the event. I don't know how they stop something like that?

You roll in, bag and all, thru a metal detector. Set it off and step to the side.

I won't make this political, but maybe we should move it there.... don't bring a knife to a gun fight.
