Living in Venezuela in early to mid 60s we got our news from short wave radio. That meant Voice of America, BBC and US Armed Forces Radio Service. But the strongest 24 hour stations came from Radio Moscow and Radio Havana. It used to be comical to listen to those two occasionally because the propaganda was so very obvious and the source was so clear. Now they have become extremely nebulous and extremely sophisticated in how they do it. Funny thing is a lot of their stuff gets put on boards just like this one by well meaning, committed Americans who have no idea they are posting Russian generated propaganda based on half truths, lies and divisiveness. They've gotten really good at it compared to the 60s.

Venezuela is now a socialist (communist) dictatorship under Maduro. I still have a lot of Venezuelan friends there who lament what has happened to their democracy. And many more living now mostly in Florida as exiles who cannot return home just like what happened to the Cubans who left in the 50s & 60s. The Russians and especially the Chinese have been very much a part of this collapse and it has a great many of the South American democracies very worried.
I don't think most Americans are really aware of what is happening and that freedom is being attacked one small piece at a time all around the world. It adds up and if we don't recognize it now as a united nation, we will go the way of the Roman Empire, just more dust to sift through 1000 years from now.
BTW I go to Spain next week and have several Roman ruins there on the "to see" list in south central Spain.

Why do I find it impossible to have a real discussion with people over here? Because you're all so caught up in labeling people who actually try to think through the real issues that you won't take two seconds to consider any other possibility than your own. cal I haven't even been on the political board all that long and if you knew me personally you would have heard me say multiple times during Obama's admin. that he was nothing more than a Chicago political hack with zero understanding of international affairs. I was born in a Goldwater family and volunteered into the US Army, Infantry and service in Vietnam because of that family upbringing. I also attended the Army's Psychological Operations School in Ft. Bragg which specialized in teaching all about the international use of propaganda as an extension of military operations. The reason you hear me rail against Trump is primarily because he doesn't have a truthful bone in his body as I've said in detail here before. However i also think he is totally ignorant, just like Obama, of anything having to do with international relations and for whatever reason chooses to remain so when it comes to Russia and China. I will wait for the courts to decide if that reason is treasonous. Meanwhile, on his watch, we are losing the cyberwar while he steadfastly stands in the way of finding a way to counteract what they are doing. His egotistic fear that someone might think the Russians got him elected via that cyberwar forces him to close his eyes and refuse to see what happened so that we can actually do something in the future to prevent them undermining democracies worldwide. And if the trail of evidence leads back to him as a willing partner to get himself elected, will you be able to see it for what it is? Will you recognize the duck then?
