WR Trade Targets

The Browns Board

  • I think all the ones you highlighted make sense. Doubtful on Floyd though. Although he doesn't meet your criteria perhaps Willie Snead would like to return. I think he could be had.

  • 😕 maybe we can trade 3 of our drafted receivers for one of those listed.

  • I believe the trade deadline is Halloween.

  • Not a trade but a rescue from the Sunday armchair. DGB Baby!! 6'6" with 4.3 speed. Let Saunders have a crack at him.

  • Thanks for the info Tour! I was actually just wondering about the WRs out there. In the NFL, trades aren't as common as other sports, but they do occur. There was a random report about the Fins wanting to move Landry and I think I heard they wanted a 3rd or something, but I could've made that up. If we make a trade like that and get Landry, our entire WR group could be different soon. Corey Coleman, Landry, and a little guy who is battling addiction named Gordon. Hey look, the possibility of having Coleman, Landry, and Gordon are a million to one, but whatever. It's fun to think about.

We're going to add someone. The Jordan Leslie injury was awful for everyone. I found it odd that it took so long to bring back Rannell Hall...I love that guy. Bryce Dreggs is someone who could help, but it will take time. He doesn't know the system. He's also a little guy, and that doesn't help us. We're missing the guy that Britt was SUPPOSED to be. The big possession WR with golden hands. The guy that literally could've transformed two games already this year. That one 3rd down drop early in the season when Kizer threw a 20 yard DART? The drops that were INTs? Lord Britt was supposed to HELP the kid. Ugh.

  • I'd love a Jarvis Landry reliability and work ethic in support of our QB.   Mike Mayock was a big fan of this kid's passion behind/inside the numbers.

As intriguing as Allen Robinson is - he's on IR so that wouldn't help Kizer this year; and I think Bortles' performance has inexplicably improved during his absence.

  • yes Lets trade Kizer.. He blows..

Before we discard young Mr  Kizer only to watch another team jump on him that actually has some semblance of an OL, running game and WRs THAT CAN ACTUALLY CATCH I'd wait there.

    It's not the shoes.....it's the WRs. 😮

    Coaching doesn't fix lazy.

  • It's literally impossible to accurately evaluate a 21 year-old QB in this situation.  Please try and understand that the people Kizer will be throwing the ball too this weekend have essentially zero NFL experience.  Let that sink in for a moment.  Look at the WR's, and someone tell me who has the most yards and catches out of the people we'll be playing.  Ricardo Louis?  Is that really our leading WR right now?  Now look at our TE's.  Everybody is a 2nd or 3rd year player, right?  Not only that, but the damn TE's can't block worth a crap, and that's seriously hurting our ability to run the ball.  It's all connected, and we have such a lack of experience at basically every skill position, so how in the HECK can anybody judge this QB fairly?

Does he struggle with accuracy?  Yep.  Does he throw it too hard on the short stuff?  Yep.  Has he missed some wide open reads?  Yep.  Look at the first play of the game last week for example.  He missed a 30 yard pass to Telfer on the absolute first play of the game.  How much does that change things around?  What does the game look like if Zane makes that first FG, or how about this:  What happens on that missed FG drive if Britt doesn't slip like a moron and fall down?  Kizer's pass was literally perfect and would've been enough for a first down.  I'm not even going to mention the Britt drop that got picked off.  Yeah, we would've lost, but 27-17, or whatever, would've been so much better than what happened.

Kizer is far from perfect, but I'm not about to crucify this guy.  His defense forces ZERO FG'S!  His receivers can't catch, and his "best" WR's are now injured.  He's throwing the ball to guys that would not be on ANY OTHER ROSTER.  Teams can play press man on us, and they have nothing to worry about because our guys CAN'T WIN matchups.  Since the defense has nothing to worry about through the air, they can safely put 102 guys in the box, which makes it impossible to run.  Our TE's can't block, we can't set up play-action passes, and it's a struggle just to get a first down.

Yes, this year sucks, but the season could be a WINNER if Kizer somehow takes positive steps forward, and we actually have our QB.  The difficulty will be evaluating the poor kid because our management didn't do enough AT ALL in terms of surrounding the kid with talent.  Right now, the only hope we have to help Kizer is a miracle trade, Coleman coming back from injury with a vengeance, and of course the miraculous return of Josh Gordon, and we all know not to hold our collective breath.

Coaching, FO pressure and other factors can try to fix lazy......losing a great paycheck can have short term results.

Now can't coach stupid very far. (One of my favorite sayings, the only true remedy for stupid is death. 😆 )

How about before we get to your question (which I like), we question why a team that had the most $ to spend in FA as well as 2 sizable draft volumes can't give us NFL caliber WRs in a passing era?  BUT, we were okay to part with something like 16 million $ for Osweiler while we rationalize a need to penny pinch on important positions like WR and Corner in a passing era? If we're going to offer FA WRs the same price tag that more competitive offenses do - guess what they're gonna choose?  It's tough to get excited about the musical practice squad WRs that last for half a cup of coffee before we're onto the next kid we're only going to give 1 or 2 chances to.  We wouldn't know a Wes Welker if we saw one right now...  This comes from a fan that is usually optimistic and all about the game face especially during this time of year.  1-19 football coupled with being 4-37 in our last 41 games feels like 16 dudes at Miktoxic's hangout playing soccer on my game face.

Also, if we have all the wrong guys on the perimeter keeping our QB indecisive and untrusting - why risk multiple concussions on a QB that just turned 21 from his holding onto the ball too long in the pocket?  If Goff (as a #1 pick overall) in a similarly depleted WR Corps had to sit and watch for at least half a year on a rebuilding team - what makes Kizer gotta start all 16 games material?  Goff learned a lot watching someone like Keenum (who wasn't exactly a polished starter any more than Hogan is).  That said, Hogan has moved the team better in terms of points per series.

Until then, we have to look at  - is he throwing anyone open or leading WRs (instead of throwing late/behind them)? Is he using any touch when/where advisable?  I'm only seeing why his college coach emphasized he wasn't ready for the NFL.  I wish he could change that or even give me subtle hints he may have something worth the investment of 16 starts as a rookie. If we didn't go 1-15 last year - I might have a little more patience with all our forfeits this year.  The bigger worry here is we could be doing all these forfeits for the next Brandon Weeden or Jamarcus Russell.  Kizer wasn't exactly anyone's 1st round priority in 2017. Even on a team coming off 1-15, he was our 4th priority/pick.  That hardly adds up to the next Troy Aikman or Peyton Manning but I've been wrong before.  I'd love to be wrong this time.

So we can't evaluate him going forward, but could up until now? (Smart-butt question alert... feel free to consider it rhetorical...

I basically disagree here as I did a day or so ago. You can break down the tape and grade his reads, his judgement and execution. The result of the play matters not.

Is that even a thing in the NFL? I can't remember hearing of a suspension for "non-performance.
