Browns vs Lions

Hi, my name is Orion, I'm a man, and I can change, if I have to, I guess. (The Red Green Show)
Lions fans pity us. ugh....
We're about as low as it gets. Especially with the 49'ers winning...we're the undisputed chumpions...so far.

I'll write more later (I'm sure you all are so excited) but I don't have time right now. There's a part of me that is somewhat encouraged today, but honestly, there's a bigger part that is so completely aggrevated by our continued red zone buttfukkery. That series of events before the half just sent me into a tailspin. Now, I DO love how we responded, and that can't be understated, but we are a team that can NEVER leave points on the field, and I honestly don't know why we called our final timeout with just over a minute to go. I don't get it....

It's called poor clock management, something having a really good OC could cure in a heartbeat. But with Hue it's a chronic problem.

I have to vent on something, and I'm going to do my absolute best to keep it from being TOO whiney and immature, but I am so COMPLETELY sick and effing tired of our offense trying the freaking "fade pass" to the corner of the end zone OVER AND OVER again. I can't take it. The only time I can remember it working is when Hogan threw a pass to Devalve when the Houston game was well out of hand, and other than that, I can probably count twenty failed attempts. That interception at the end of the game yesterday was just so terrible, I couldn't even stop myself from screaming at the television like a mad man. My dog slinked away and hid under the couch, and even the birds in the front yard scattered like a bomb detonated. We run it SO MUCH that the defense is actually WAITING on it. I mean, the defender just backed off of Louis and waited for the effing ball! Ricardo got jammed like a little girl, and then looked to just give up on the pass. It was freaking awful, and I want to know WHY we continue to run a play that essentially NEVER works for us.
Isn't the definition of insanity trying the same thing but expecting a different result? And why would we EVER run that route to Ricardo? Has he ever really shown the ability to high-point the ball? I know we were down 14 and the game was pretty much over for all intents and purposes, but we HAVE TO GET BETTER in the red zone, and this was a golden opportunity to get some work in. I watched a highlight video of every touchdown scored this week, and do you have any idea how many TD's were scored from about the 5 yard line? I didn't see hardly any fades thrown, but I did see an impressive diversity of successful playcalls, and I HAVE to believe we have SOMETHING up our sleeve besides that dreaded "jump ball" crap. We can't do some misdirection? We can't try a middle-shovel pass? A QB draw? (not sneak, but draw). We can't try the play where the QB runs to his right and throws the dig route to the WR? How about a naked bootleg, or protected bootleg? We need a breath of fresh air blown into our offense, and I am firmly on the "hire an OC" bandwagon. What really hurts is how we can look somewhat decent all of the way UNTIL we get close to scoring, and then we just go stupid. What really hurts is hearing Hue Jackson saying we work really hard on red zone execution during the week, and that's pretty scary.
Something else too....the officials in the first half. I know only losers complain about the officiating, and I don't normally do it, but they REALLY screwed us on that one drive, and it was repulsive. The one on Shon Coleman was especially revolting, and even the announcer was like...."Uhhhh....I don't think I've seen that call before. Coleman looked to be on the line to me, so I guess the officials are going to be calling it very close." No, they aren't going to be calling it very close, because on several of the Lions' first half runs, there were worse holds on THEIR offense that weren't called. It's fine if they want to call a super tight game, but that has to extend BOTH WAYS, and it really didn't. We put together a very nice drive, Kizer made a nice throw to Britt for 30 yards, and the holding they called was so weak I couldn't believe it.

Its something that poor head coach continues to struggle with. It's been a struggle for 25 games now, I don't think he's going to suddenly "get it" in the 26th game either. Maybe he just wanted to make sure to leave enough time for Detroit to score.

Again...its the HC and the guy calling the plays. Kizer is not good at that throw. Everyone of us who have watched the games can see it's not something he's good at. Maybe it will improve with time or next training camp...but right now...he doesn't have it, so why fucking call it over and over again? Because our coach is a fucking moron. Same reason why in Hogan's start against the Texans he kept having him throw those deep out patterns that clearly Hogan doesn't have the arm for....but hell...its in the playbook so we're going to keep trying it. Huey does not adjust his coaching to the players he has on the field. He expects the players to run the plays that he thinks should work, regardless of skill set.
It's the sign of a bad coach and hey...he's 1-24 and he's won 2 of his last 30...but lets give him more time to see if he improves.
-
You definitely don't want a guy with a strong arm but accuracy problems to make throws putting air under the ball. I would prefer if he simply played curl, quick outs or other patterns where the ball has to get fast and the defender only can try to protect the pass and doesn't have a 50/50 shot on making an interception. Red zone efficiency sucks.

Can you guys please knock off the "fire Hue Jackson" crap??!! For Pete's sake, I'm sick of firing everybody every year and starting over. Hue justs needs some talent and time. How many of you guys calling for Hue's head could do better with this group?
Give them time and let them grow together. Starting all over constantly SUCKS. We need receivers!!!

Hue Jackson just needs talent. Not a truer statement is made..... The problem is that he needs someone with talent to be the OC and HC of this team....and he does not appear to be that guy.
Again....I think a lot of the problem is that he is trying to do both jobs.....and is shitty at both jobs, where maybe if he did one or the other he could be pretty good.

Hue is 2-30 in his last 32 games as head coach. He's 1-24 with the Browns, so at worst I'd only have 1 less win than Hue would with this exact same team. He's a LOUSY HC. If this team doesn't win some games down the stretch (and its a stretch that they will) someone has to get fired. A team can't go 1-31 and have someone not lose their job.
First thing you have to realize is:
- Those of you calling for Hue to get canned will never get it. You must love having a new coach every one or two years.
- Those of you calling for our young players to be canned, I don't know where to begin. Seth gets a ball knocked out, he needs to be canned. Njuko didn't block the rusher, he needs to be canned. And this is just this game, not to mention much more.
- We got rid of all of our high priced players and made this team one of the youngest in the league. They need to grow and will take time.
- Kizer played much better until the last play of the game, but you have to give him credit for that. But like I said before, these are all rookies or 2nd year players. I truly believe in the next 2 years, these guys will be playing at a very high level. You guys have to bear with this team.

- Yes.....and it was still a foolish move, imo to get rid of a few of those players. You can still have a young team with bit of veteran leadership. Keeping McCown would have helped Kizer. Keeping Haden may have helped, maybe. Keeping Barnidge would have helped.

- What choice do we have? We are not the one choosing this team. We know Kizer is a rook.....but I also think he could have used some veteran help to mentor him. Nothing wrong with that.

We have had this problem constantly with the Browns: Derek Anderson, Brandon Weeden.. Who else?....and now, maybe, Kizer. Guys with Bazooka arms who only shoot lasers, but have no touch on the ball.

He's not the first new HC who wants to both be a coordinator and a HC. I would get that if you were an already proven genius, but taking two spots on a coaching personnel in your first job as HC?
Even Bellichick WHO HAD A RING as defensive coordinator, when hired as HC had both OC and DC.

Marty Schottenheimer refused to hire an OC, which ultimately led to Modell firing his azz.

Well, there are other QBs in the league with same assets, and intelligent coaches adapt the playing style to them. I think for example in Cam Newton. He can't be considered a super accurate QB and I wouldn't say he sucks, because he can run and has a strong arm, so when the gameplay adapts to his game his offense can work pretty well, even when he doesn't have a top receiveing unit.

that would require our head coach making adjustments to the strengths of the QB. Something Huey the bozo isn't capable of doing.

- How long have we been doing exactly that since '99? We's have to go back to the eighty's with Sam and Marty to almost getting there or Paul Brown in the '60s.

- No choice and I understand that. Did we get rid of quality players that we should've kept, absolutely. But like I said and will continue to say, we need to give Hue time. Now the FO might have to go. They did a good job of helping us get rid of the older players, but they can't draft quality and it's time to go.

I want to be very clear. I do NOT want a new coach right now OR at the end of the year. It's obvious to me that the players like our coach, and they also play hard for them. What we need now are adjustments. We need an OC, like many of us have been saying for a while. This OC needs to be in TOTAL command of the clock, the play-calling, and anything else associated with scoring points. We're going to be getting real weapons back soon, and we need to make the most of Coleman and Gordon. I realize we won't be getting an OC THIS year, but if Gordon and Coleman are somehow on the field for us next season, I don't want their talent wasted by Hue Jackson's red zone failures.
The other adjustment we need to our coaching staff is a serious change of scheme by Gregg Williams. I'm not saying we need to fire him or completely alter his scheme, but he simply MUST stop blitzing so much, as it's killing us. I know that if you live by the blitz, you die by the blitz, but that Golden Tate screen pass that went for a 40 yard TD killed us, and it shouldn't have happened. We had only two DB's covering 3 WR's, and it was an easy audible for a seasoned pro like Stafford to make. Tate is one of the best, actually he's THE best, yards after catch guy in the league. Teams are starting to catch onto our aggressive tendencies, and it's becoming a problem. That Golden Tate TD was WAY too easy, as was the Ebron TD. He easily got by his defender, there was no help anywhere, and it was basically pitch and catch. When is the last time we had a TD like THAT? A nice little 30 yard bomb for a TD? I don't remember it...do you?

I never said he shouldn’t get an OC.
Well, that's the basis of most of my arguments on here with the current regime. If you read into them instead of saying i'm "clueless", "stupid", or "ignorant" you'd know I never said to fire anyone, but that Hue needs an O.C. and Sashi needs an experienced GM. Sashi did great when he had a boss is Jacksonville.

While working with the Jaguars organization, Brown served as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Section 8 Subcommittee to the Jacksonville Housing Authority. He also played a role in negotiating the naming rights deal for EverBank Field.[2]
Sorry, but the fact that you consider this in any way whatsoever relevant to what he's doing in Cleveland is the reason you get those kinds of labels....
