Marques de Grin(y)on 2013 Single Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Nero-try some of this some time from Spain. Had some there and brought the only one I could find back in the suitcase.  It's excellent. After I got it home I found it was rated 93 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Worth the 29E I paid for it.

I've heard of Marqués de Griñón. Anyway, in my family we enjoy red wine more. I don't have a taste for white wine yet.

The women in the family are more white wine drinkers though.

    That's a Cabernet-you'll love it.

  • Happy Thanksgiving , Everyone!... Enjoy the Triptofan rush...

Sorry! I read Sauvignon and directly thought of Sauvignon blanc  😊

    Two thumbs up here.

  • Hoorta...White Bordeaux wine with meat? Here the usual take is red wine for meat, white wine for fish. But I guess there is no accounting for tastes. Anyway, it sounds delicious! 😉

I'm going to work on Thursday, having normal lunch... But Happy Thanksgiving to all!

🙂 It will be a very red Bordeaux, Nero. Something along the lines of a 1986 Chateau Rausan-Segla or 1982 Cos d' Estournel.  I suppose in Spain, you have an equivalent of Thanksgiving sometime?

If they enjoy Moscato, better not to waste such a great wine with them, certainly.

Here, we have a popular drink called ''calimocho'' which is coke mixed up 50/50 with cheap red wine. Sometimes in celebrations like Christmas we have expensive red wine Crianza (I see in English it's called Aging) and if someone, like one cousin once did, dares to mix it with coke, he has to suffer a death stare by the wine lovers.

LOL, Spanish wines started me off on my good wine kick. A few cases of Bodegas Franco Espanolas 1968 shared with friends it was. Dirt cheap at the time- less than a buck a bottle.  I love Rioja wines, have a bunch of them in my cellar. Vina Ardanza Riserva et al. Toro is fine, ditto Priorat. Wish I could afford Pesquera. One of my very favorites is a wine from the Jumilla region, Clio. Spanish wine from French grapes made in an Australian style, if you follow. Between me and one other guy we have bottles of every vintage they've ever produced going back to 2002. After dinner, a nice glass of Lustau Oloroso sherry. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm one of the board's resident winos.

None of the above Gip. You probably know (from our trip to Nashville) about my very limited diet.  Nothing from the squash family, and I don't care for sweet potatoes either. & if it came out of the water- I don't eat that either. If you want generic, I'll go pecan pie.  I have a couple pie recipes from the wine group when I'm in the mood to spend hours in the kitchen. A killer chocolate cream that has unbelievable intensity (100% cacao is the base ingredient) and a personal fave I whip up once in awhile- White chocolate amaretto cream. Pretty much describes the main ingredients. Used to be one of the signature deserts at one of the restaurants here, but they dropped it because it's too time consuming to make on a commercial scale. You're standing over a double boiler for an hour stirring waiting for it to thicken up.

I thought it could be white because Bordeaux is famous for its white wines. I live 3 hours away from Bordeaux and 1h away from Rioja myself 🙂

I've heard about Viña Ardanza and Priorat. I'm not an expert myself, I usually drink only a glass every day, but I enjoy whenever they bring good wine.

About an equivalent of Thanksgiving, I can't think of any. Christmas season is the principal celebration here, we have 5 celebrations in 2 weeks.

Anyway, Spanish calendar has many more festivities than the American one.

  • If there were more folks like me around, the world would be overrun with turkeys. Bury a small slice under some cranberry sauce.

Cows of the world are in danger. Hoorta's Thanksgiving dinner consists of a grilled NY strip on the grill, baked potato, salad & veggies. Old Bordeaux for the wine, vintage TBD.

Watch my secondary team the Lions. Been to Detroit several times on Turkey Day when they were playing the Browns- of course Cleveland lost, it's sort of their Super Bowl.

Whatever you put on the table, Happy Thanksgiving to all.  🙂

    Having chicken instead of turkey.

  • I remember having this for many meals while a grunt.  Canned dog food would be better.  My favorite as beans and meatballs.

You have some serious mental problems dude.

  • Headin' to party central (a/k/a the bro-in-laws) with two 20+ lb, cage free, big birds in the trunk and makings for everything from a couple sides to desert, three bottles of wine (stopping en route to look for more) and a half case of Yuengling.

Taking the lappie, but if past visits are any indication, then posts will be far and few between. So either enjoy the break or despair minus my sunshining... or both.

But in any case here's hoping you all have a great day full of food, family and good times... in what ever order you prefer.

See you in the tavern... I'm getting that feelin'... again.

Sweet potato pie is the inbred cousin of pumpkin pie.
