Yesterday when Hue spoke, he was asked a question about hiring an OC.   He answered that that was "a definite possibility".

What I suspect happened is that this whole thing has been kept underground until yesterday.  There had been the vetting of GM candidates..plus discussions with Hue.   In addition to hiring Dorsey....the announcement that Hue would stay on, I believe, had a certain condition....that he hire an OC for next year. And with this statement Hue basically confirmed that he was going to have to do that.   That kind of got lost with everything else....but I think it is actually a fairly big thing.

    Now...who?

He's a little busy leading the Vikings offense to the playoffs.

When I read it yesterday I thought the same. They're gonna make him get some more assistants and an OC for sure.

      Well, that's something.

      Well, that's something.

Or demote Hue to "waterboy", and bring in a real HC.

I'm sorry, "Chief Strategist of Acqua Development"

I'm going to put out a name who has been with the Browns before, who turned two young rookie QBs into pro bowlers, and who is QB coach for one of the top teams in the league.

The interesting thing to me is that this is pretty much what I've been hoping for. I wanted an established GM to take over for Sashi, and then I wanted an OC to help Hue Jackson with subtle nuances of the game, such as red zone execution, time management, and other things that a head coach may not have time to completely devote himself to.

Honestly, I didn't know if we had a shot at an established GM due to our history of firing people so quickly, and also being so awful. I mean, who in the world would want to put their career and their reputation on the line in a place that literally never wins? When we let Sashi go, I knew we had somebody in mind. The timing of it told us this, so I became excited. I was even MORE excited when told Hue and the coaches would be staying, hopefully well beyond 2018. This is what we've been needing for so long. Players drafted to fit a system, learning those systems, and then growing in them.

Listen, I know it's been rough with Hue AND Gregg. But I still believe we have two guys with the right experience that can do good things if given the time and resources. We're bringing in Dorsey to run a draft that we absolutely NEED to nail, and I feel so much better with HIM here than I did with Sashi. We're going to spend some serious money this offseason and we're going draft a ton of talent. I'm beating the drum on acquiring Alex Smith from the Chiefs, and I'm not sure if it's better to trade for him, or wait until he's released. I think the Chiefs will obviously TRY to trade him first, and that actually helps us because we have resources other teams don't have. If we wait until his possible and probable release, he'll be free to sign wherever he wants, and that does NOT favor us. Would you give up a 2nd rounder and maybe another mid-round pick for Alex if he signs an extension? I would. I'd make the trade AND take a QB in the 1st round.

I've stated multiple times that fans should not expect Josh Gordon to come back next year for obvious reasons. It'd be GREAT if he did, but we can't count on him. But lord...if he's back, Corey is healthy, Njoku continues to improve, Duke is back, Devalve, and whoever else we acquire...it starts to look like a completely different team, right? Obviously this all depends on the long shot of somehow getting Alex Smith, but just think about it. Alex completes like 70% of his passes (Kizer is 52%. Yeesh). He excels at throwing to tight ends and running backs, which we have. He can run read-option. He doesn't turn it over. Make it happen.

So an OC is a definite maybe?

I guess I am unfamiliar with what he has done since he left here.  Fill us in.

I would say it borders between an almost certainty and a more than likely.

Man, I'd be so stoked if we got an OC, nailed the draft, and had a new qb starting for us (OR a greatly improved Kizer who actually throws Tds). Nailing the draft encompasses:  Getting a QB (EARLY), RB, free safety, corner back, and WR. That's what I want with our 1st five picks. Make it happen Dorsey.
