Well for someone like myself that sends Sheet to work from home on the regular, I kind of need things to work as intended.

So you are in fear, really honestly seriously, of not being able to do your job anymore because of the repeal of net neutrality? You're a smart guy doesn't that seem like a classic case of chicken little syndrome?

Oh I know I'll be able to get my job done, what I'm saying is there are instances - I highlight work, that require the Internet.  A net that functions as advertised and as paid for.    I was talking with a friend of mine about this just the other day.  Do I expect the net to just "shut off"?  Hell no.   However do I expect a sharp premium increase, coupled with receiving the same services (lack thereof) and in many cases prioritizing and throttling of customers to take better "plans"...? Yep.   Toss in blacking out access to certain sites and information.         There is already evidence of abuse without neutrality, that much CANNOT be argued.          Again, Stan himself may have to pay an increase on this board for a multitude of reasons that simply didn't exist pre-repeal.

Look to other countries in the EU for example.   Did nobody bother to read some of the things our friends from across the sea told us?   I'm sure around here that's a rhetorical question, of course none of you did.      Point being and in short, I expect to pay more for nothing.

edit:  I should be use to the bold part as a life long Brownies fan.

Well all I have to say is that whatever price increases are in the pipe are coming our way with or without net neutrality. Bank on it.

And something else you can count on anytime any company wants to raise the cost of anything they are going to use net neutrality defeat as an excuse. I can't remember exactly how many dozens of times After experiencing poor service or higher prices that somebody blamed it on 9/11.

  • Im not going to say how this will shake out, it remains to be seen. But what is abundantly clear is that most of u dont understand what makes capitalism work. U have this infantile view that any kind if regulation no matter what, is anti capitalist....even those regulations which preserve competition. I didnt think one has to explain the principles of capitalism to grown men in this day and age but yeah, we sure do

My friend I mentioned earlier is a rather hardline libertarian.   ANY type of regulation is seen as blasphemy to them.    They believe the free market is purity and will fix anything/everything.  They don't take into account how the market can be manipulated and thus a certain degree of oversight is required.     This is where I break from the ideology.     Like I said, I closely align with their belief structure - but on certain things I do not.  This is one of those things.

Pretty sure they're not going to stop your e-mail service. Or Dropbox or whatever you use.

Do you think these internet companies are planning on putting themselves out of business?

The problem ur not seeing is that these isp's more or less have us by the short and curlies, and they "know" it. So they could potentially spike internet premiums up and down on speculation just like gas prices. Who knows what they might decide to do when they need extra cash flow to pay off investors.

Im hoping theres enough comp between att, spectrum and perhaps a sattelite service that thesevshenanigans are kept to a min. But heres something u cant deny......theres a ton of gas stations right? Yet they all almost always post the exact same prices. Theres literally no reason to be choosy about where u get gas because theres zero price competetition. And why woyld there be? Are people going to fuel up with some other kind of fuel?

These kinds of market situations are exactly whatbthe founders of capitalism warned about. As did marx even. Im very disappointed in libertarians nowadays because they forgot their roots.

  • I guess it depends on who owns the cables that the internet runs over. We can't get AT&T here in the city of Norton because Time Warner originally ran the lines. Hard to say Time Warner isnt entitled to reap a profit on their investment and work.

I don't see much competition between the electric companies or the gas companies. There are cheap and expensive cellular phone plans out there as well as VoIP. Competition among music stores has led to pretty much one price across the board for a Fender Stratocaster. Just like anything else, many years ago you had to go to the one authorized Fender dealer and pay retail. Then a couple stores started doing big volume and discounting 30%. Then the giant chains took over. They eliminated the middle men and bought their guitars directly from the factory by the thousands not by the dozens. And the bite taken by the internet stores? They don't even have to build a brick and mortar. If anybody thinks history began five years ago then I suppose they will be worried. This will all change and reasonably soon.

Build your own infrastructure and you can give everyone unlimited access to 4k streaming since you appear to think that's feasible.

    Japan says hi.

  • Japan has more crusty old twats than babies and they're literally working themselves to death. Such a shining example.

If we were talking about suicide rate the I wouldn't use Japan.  But we're talking about the net and its infrastructure.  So.... yeah - it's a great Shmucking example actually.

Well right there u nailed it. So a company built this infrastructure so now they're entitled to anti competetive practices? Making a sound argumentbthat the state should build that infrastructure and let companies compete for the right to use them

Im clueless about japans infrastructure, care to elaborate for someone that will actually listen and analyze and not knee jerk back an uninfirmed boiler plated rebuttal?

  • I don't know how many ways I can tell you I don't care about net neutrality and I laugh at your pitiable fear about it.
