The Old In Out

The Browns Board
3 1 199
  • I am not talking about the Clockwork Orange euphamism for fornication here.....I am talking about the NFL playoffs.   For like every year but one since the mid 90s, there has always been a turnover of at least 5 teams in the NFL playoffs from the previous year.  And this year is no different likely.

In fact....as it stands right here, right now, only 4 teams in the entire NFL would return to the playoffs this year:

The Patriots, the Steelers...both of whom have clinched playoff berths, plus the Chiefs and Falcons.  But things are still up in the air for those two.

Teams from last year that would be out right now:  Texans, Raiders, Dolphins, Cowboys, Seahawks, Packers, Giants, Lions.

Teams that would be in but did not make it last year, right now: Jaguars, Bills, Titans, Eagles, Vikings, Saints, Rams, Panthers

The Lions, Seahawks and Cowboys still have a decent chance of making it back...but right now they are on the outside looking in.

Point is.....look at all these teams that are out that can come back into the playoffs.  It seems there is only one team that can't ever seem to do that.....you know who.

  • Also note this:   Some of the teams that are in like to make the playoffs are also in line to break fairly long playoff droughts:

Bills have gone 18 years,     Rams  13 years, Titans 9 years.

If the Bills make it, then it will be the Browns who will have suffered the longest playoff drought:   they are at 15 years right now.   Every other team will have only had a drought half as long as the Browns except for the Buccaneers who have been waiting 10 years.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NFL_franchise_post-season_droughts

But, note in that same link that the Bengals, Lions and Bills have all still gone longer without a playoff win than the Browns. Bengals have gone the longest....and that won't change.  Lions and Bills theoretically have a chance at a post season win.

  • But...with the Browns woes....please note that they are not alone in never having won a Super Bowl.   There are 13 of the NFL teams that have never won one:

Cardinals, Lions, Eagles, Titans/Oilers, Chargers, Bills, Browns, Vikings, Falcons, Bengals, Jags, Panthers, Texans.

But...also note that the Browns have gone the longest in the NFL without winning a division title....25 years....which would actually be longer except that this link does not count the 3 down years.
