Merry Xmas
-
Information about Christmas that you may not have known:
1. The name Jesus is Hebrew and means literally "Yahweh (God) is Salvation. Jesus was a common Hebrew name of the time and other variants of the name include Yeshua, Jeshua, and Joshua. So, as many people have done so recently...if you named you son Joshua, it is essentially the same as naming him Jesus.
2. The name Christ is the Anglicized version of "Christos", which is Greek....and means "Anointed"...and is actually the Greek translation of the Hebrew "Meshiakh" or Messiah (which means Anointed)
3. Xmas is NOT a method of taking "Christ" out of Christmas. In fact, it is quite the opposite. X is actually the Greek letter Chi. Chi is the Greek letter that is used for the pronunciation of the hard C sound..or K sound, or ch sound. The name Christ in Greek begins with the letter Chi...X. Thus, the X is merely the abbreviation of the name Christ.
More to come. -
More information on Christmas and its traditions: No one actually knows when Jesus was born. The date we celebrate, December 25th was directed to be the date of the celebration of Jesus's birthday by the Emperor Constantin (who made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire) and by Pope Julius I to coincide with...or replace...the Roman (pagan) celebration of Saturnalia...which was a celebration of the Winter Solstice.
The Christmas traditions of the Christmas Tree, and hanging wreaths and mistletoe derive from the Gemanic pagan tradition of bringing evergreens into the home at Yuletide. "Yuletide" is simply another pagan tradition of celebrating the Winter Solstice.
Two other Christmas Traditions derive from Nordic "pagan" traditions. The concept of a Supernatural person (a God or a Saint...such as Santa Claus) visiting homes at the holiday came from the fact that people believed the Father of Norse Gods...Odin would make a visit to each home at Yuletide. Ergo....the concept of Santa coming into your home. Also....the tradition of leaving cookies out for Santa comes from the fact that when Odin visited, he came on his horse Sleipnir, and the Nordic children, in anticipation of the visit would leave treats out for Odin's horse.
-
Another interesting Christmas fact: Clement Moore...Author of The Night Before Christmas, was not the only person to give names to Santa's reindeer. In 1902 L. Frank Baum....author of the Wizard of Oz, also wrote a book called The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, and in that novel, Santa had a whole new set of 10 Reindeer with the following names: Glossie, Flossie, Racer, Pacer, Fearless, Peerless, Ready, Steady, Feckless, Speckless (these last two were sometimes called Freckles and Speckles)
-
"Christ" in the Greek Alphabet....demonstrating where the "Xmas comes from".

Did I say "Merry Christmas"? Merry Xmas to you:

And that's why in Spain (and other hispanic countries) we celebrate the coming of the Three Wise Men, who worshipped Jesus and brought presents to him. We give presents to each other the 6th of January as the Day of the Kings (the Epiphany), though many people have adopted Santa's pagan tradition in late 20th century.
Also, the 28th of December we celebrate the Massacre of the Innocents (in Spain we call it the Day of the Saint Innocents) doing jokes like you do in April Fools' Day, referring to the second entry of the word in the dictionary (gullible, naive...) Not many people participate, though.
¡Feliz Navidad, Gipper!

Triplets posing for Playboy is like Christmas—it’s not something that happens every day, but you’re very grateful when that day comes. The Satterfield Triplets are small-town girls from Sheffield Lake, Ohio. Rachel, Vicki and Sarah are all petite, blondes with blue eyes. “My sisters and I, we’re the bomb,” says Sarah Satterfield. “When we saw other triplets in Playboy we thought, ‘we can do that, too!’”.......

I actually had to check out the above triplets, in Playboy yet kind of like finding plutonium in your back yard, well.....
Two thirds of a Playboy triplets trio smiled for a different kind of photographer this weekend after being arrested for their role in an Ohio strip club brawl.
According to NewsNet5, police arrested Vicki and Sarah Satterfield of Elyria after reviewing footage from the Brass Pole club. The fight appeared to have started in the club’s dressing room.
According to police reports obtained by CBS Cleveland, Vicki Satterfield and another women started throwing things at each other and the fight quickly escalated in an “altercation that turned physical between at least six dancers.”
Police say that Vicki Satterfield started throwing beer bottles at the bar after she and Sarah Satterfield were separated from the other strippers in the dressing room. Both appeared very intoxicated, according to CBS Cleveland.
Despite surveillance video, the sisters tell the story differently. In a 911 tape obtained by Fox 8 News, Sarah Satterfield says she was the victim.......
