Camp Barkley #1 Overall

  • This kid is a generational talent. He's on Adrian Petterson's level. The difference between Barkley and the next best RB is staggering. Even NFL runningbacks can't run like Barkley does. I could care less about what we end up doing with the 4th pick, if we don't get Barkley #1- we aren't even trying to win. It's Barkley or Bust. I like to look back to see what you can see, I've done this with a few players... and it's telling sometimes. He's so smooth in his transitions and his cuts, his footwork is incredible. He can probably play any position but OL/DL/QB- although I've seen him pass a few times, it's not something that you want Barkley to do. You want him to make the other team look silly trying to do what he can do without breaking a sweat.

Look at these High School highlights and you can see how much he's developed... Saquon is a star.

Barkley breaks tackles and makes grown men miss like an infant grasping for a swinging pacifier. Here's notable quotes said about Barkley-

"I watch this guy and think of the great backs I've had a chance to witness, blocking for them or watching them across the field. Barkley has a chance to ultimately be a slightly sized-up Ladainian Tomlinson."

"This guy easily glides in the open field. He sidesteps and jukes, makes defenders miss with decisive cuts. He stops and restarts with immediacy. And, he's 230 pounds -- these abilities defy physics. "

"The guy's a weapon, even when the blocking up front is not great. Penn State's coaches can simply offset him in the backfield and quick toss to him -- he uses his burst to take the edge and gain yardage through sheer speed."

"Barkley's blessed with extremely fluid, natural hands as a receiver. This is not teachable. He plucks the ball from the air, even when the pass is inaccurate. He makes one-handed grabs with ease."

"Saquon Barkley is a 21st-century back whose performance and potential are astounding. He does not have limitations that some backs do -- doesn't necessarily have to line up 7 yards deep and get a head of steam to gain yardage. His steam is immediate and on-demand. With intense film study, Barkley can emulate the Le'Veon Bell/Marcus Allen style of patient explosion, piercing defenses by waiting for schemes to develop and then flooring it."

He's perfectly built for the pro game, limitless skill. "

Mel Kiper Jr. says- "The way he bounces, the leg strength, good balance; he's a heck of a player, and you're hoping he's going be like Leonard Fournette, Ezekiel Elliott, and Todd Gurley," Kiper said. "He can pass catch very effectively. He's a heck of a player."

    - Mark Wogenrich, reporter said, commenting on the reason Barkley stats trailed off last season and weren't as good enough to be a Heisman finalist- "A contributing reason was that Barkley became the most defensively schemed player in the Big Ten. Penn State countered by getting Barkley the football in a variety of ways, and the running back responded. He led Big Ten running backs in receiving yards (594), returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass."

"Barkley, who won back-to-back Big Ten offensive-player-of-the-year awards, also finished sixth nationally in scoring (126 points) and is a finalist for four other national awards, including the Maxwell and Walter Camp as player of the year."

Penn State coach James Franklin said- “I’ve been doing this a long time, and he’s the best that I’ve been around.”

  • If we get Kirk Cousins or Alex Smith in FA then I’m in

  • Anyone besides Po in camp Barkley at #1?  No? Didn’t think so...

  • Did he seriously start another Barkley thread? Sigh...

  • If we get Kirk Cousins or Alex Smith in FA then I’m in

Should be available at 4 ... 2 QBs and the Tackle.

If we get Cousins, Im Ok with trading down a alittle as long as we get Barkley and Fitzpatrick.

If we don't get Cousins, gotta go Best QB with that #1 ...

  • So when Barkley isn't AP or anywhere near his level... what then will your excuse be?

You're setting yourself up for a massive disappointment.

I agree and having #1 and 4 is a powerful position to have, a reward for being so bad! Get a journeyman QB plus Barkley and Fitzpatrick plus 10 more picks!

BROWNS-A-PALOOZA 2018! And cue the beat the dead horse againl......

  • Ideal is get starting QB at 1, and make trade with jets for their 2nd round pick or more to move back 2 spots and still get Barkley.  Jets will definitely want to jump ahead of Broncos.  Heck the Broncos might even do similar trade just to prevent Jets from jumping them.  Indy will be the wild card in such a deal.  Hopefully they will covet a player so much that they won't trade back or will ask too much for #3.

Now with the extra pick or two from jets or Broncos they trade back up and get Fitzpatrick (or James).  If they miss on them, they grab Ridley.  Now they are free to get best cb,de, or wr in Round 2, or best available at other need.

This kind of scenario is very likely.  Brown's are sitting pretty with #1 & #4 picks.

Now me being the gambler i am, I make deal with Indy weeks before draft and offer them 2nd round pick to swap 3and4.  That makes us the only team someone can deal with if they want one of the top 3 qbs.  And they will have to pay plenty for it, such as their 1&2 this year and next.

Geeezzzus you've got to change your handle from SissyBoyFloyd to bad azz GamblerBoyFloyd.....but that doesn’t rhyme with PrettyBoy, oh well.

They don't have to be real cute if they want Rosen or Darnold and certainly not any of the other projects in this year's draft.....hopefully it doesn't come to that.

  • “We gotta take this RB at #1 overall because he’s the next coming of a running back who won 1 playoff game in his career!” **1 playoff win came with HOF quarterback**

that’s a great argument for taking a RB #1 overall for the first time in over 20 years...

One playoff game in his career with a team, which after he leaves, is playing for the NFC title

  • So if we find a left tackle that looks to be the next Joe Thomas we should pass because he has no playoff appearances or wins...correct?

  • Also Know As

    Camp Moron

If it comes at the cost of the QB, you’re damn tootin’ Joe Thomas wasted a HOF career blocking for colt McCoy’s and Brandon Weedens. I don’t want his replacement going through the same Sheet.

  • Camp Barkley started by the guy who was convinced Trent Richardson was going to the hall of fame after he had been released by half the league.

  • If the Browns draft Barkley, that’s fine, while it’s not my first choice the kid is a freak of nature athlete and will be a major part of the offense (if Hue decides to use him) but the Browns can’t afford to continue to let the QB position take the back seat. I’d much rather settle for my 3rd RB prospect than my 3rd Qb prospect

  • Let's just merge this with "Camp Trent Richardson"

You didn't say that, therefore I had to apply some context.

    Thanks for the clarification.

  • This kid is a generational talent. He's on Adrian Petterson's level.

We have been through this before......UNTIL he is proven that he is as good as Jim Brown, OJ Simpson, Barry Sanders or LaDanian Tomlinson or Peterson.....he is just a prospect.

Right now....I am not certain that he can be as good as Zeke Elliott, Gurley, Fournette etc.   Gee...how can you have 2-3 "generational talents"  every year or so.

For all we know...he is a Kijana Carter, DJ Dozier, Blair Thomas, Curtis Enis type of talent.  In other words.....not good enough for even a single productive  NFL season.

And yea...the newest version of Trent Richardson.

I am still far more in favor of drafting a QB...and a defender...hopefully a DB...and roll with Crowe and Johnson and Dayes...and maybe someone taken later.

  • I'm going to be very interested in seeing Barkley's Combine times. I just don't see sub-4.4 speed on his game tape.
