Team of the Decade 2010s

The Browns Board
11 6 524
  • Here is my calculation of the Team of the Decade for the 2010s.

Note on Methodology:   Scores for the Team of the Decade are alloted on a point system.  The team that wins the Super Bowl is awarded 10 points.  The team that loses the Super Bowl is awarded 6 points.  The two Conference title game losers are awarded 3 points.  Any other team that makes the playoffs is given one point.  The points are then accumulated for the entire decade.  In this case, all points are for all years from 2010 through 2017.  So, we are 8/10ths through the 2010s. As noted the scores you see here are the accumulated points over the past 8 years playoff performances.  So, the teams of the NFL, so far in order are:

     New England Patriots    42 points

     Seattle Seahawks  20 pts

     Green Bay Packers 20 pts.

    Denver Broncos  19 pts

    Baltimore Ravens 15 pts

    Pittsburgh Steelers 13 pts.

    Atlanta Falcons 12 pts

    Philadelphia Eagles 12 pts.

    San Francisco 49ers 12 pts.

    NY Giants  11 pts

    Carolina Panthers  9 points

    Indianapolis Colts  6 pts.

    Kansas City Chiefs 5 pts

    Cincinnati Bengals 5 pts

    Minnesota Vikings 5 pts.

    New Orleans Saints 4 pts

    Houston Texans 4 pts

    Arizona Cardinals 4 pts

    NY Jets 3 pts.

    Chicago Bears 3 pts

    Detroit Lions 3 pts

    Jacksonville Jaguars 3 pts.

    Washington Redskins 2 pts

    Dallas Cowboys 2 pts

    LA Chargers 1 pt.

    LA Rams 1 pt.

    Tennessee Titans 1 pt.

    Oakland Raiders 1 pt

    Miami Dolphins 1 pt

    Buffalo Bills 1 pt.

    Tampa Bay Bucs  -0- pts.

    Cleveland Browns -0- pts.

  • Note:   The Patriots obviously have the Team of the Decade Title wrapped up for the 2010s....as they have 22 more points than any other team...and even if some team (and that could only be the Packers or the Seahawks)  were to win the next two SBs...they could still only have a max of 40 pts.

  • Past Teams of the Decade:

2000s:   Patriots  41 pts.   Runnersup:  Steelers 28 pts, Colts 25 pts.

1990s: Dallas Cowboys 37 pts. Runnersup: Bills 28 pts.   49ers and Broncos 25 pts

1980s: San Francisco 49ers 46 pts.  Runnersup: Redskins 30 pts,  Raiders 23 pts

1970s: Pittsburgh Steelers  48 pts.  Runnersup:  Cowboys 46 pts. Dolphins 30 pts.

1960s:  Green Bay Packers 56 pts.  Runnersup:  AFL Chargers 34 pts. NFL:  Browns 23 pts.

1950s:  Cleveland Browns 57 pts.  Runnersup: Lions 36  pts.  Rams and Giants 25 pts each

1940s: Chicago Bears 46 pts.  Runnersup:  Browns 40 pts. Redskins 28 pts.

1930s: Green Bay Packers 52 pts. Runnersup: NY Giants 44 pts.  Bears 32 pts

1920s: Chicago Bears 43 pts.  Runnerup:  Canton/Cleveland Bulldogs 30 pts.

So they, already had this wrapped up before the season began, and they are extending their lead significantly...

Two decades in a row is pretty damn impressive!

  • The Browns have been my team all through that decade so they should get at least a point for that 🙂

    Yes...very impressive.

The only other team to come in either first or second in two consecutive decades was......tada!.....The Cleveland Browns in the 40s and 50s under this methodology.   (and remember, the Browns were only in existence for 4 of the 10 years of the 40s).

And if you didn't count the AFL, the Browns came in 2d in the NFL in the 60s as well....when the Packers ruled.

I am certainly hoping that the Patriots do not have a 3rd decade of contention in them for this.

  • would have never guessed the pats would come out as being team of the decade without this calculation.  Would have guessed maybe ravens, texans or vikings intead.  But your

calculations really allowed me to see the light.  Thanks!
