Super Bowl Winning QBs by Conference
-
Here is the breakdown of where Super Bowl winning QBs came from in terms of conference affiliation under the current setup:
Big Ten: 10 Super Bowl wins (Brady, Brees, Dawson, Griese, Wilson)
Big 12: 1 Super Bowl win: (Hostetler...Wva.)
SEC: 9 Super Bowl wins: (Starr, Namath, Stabler, P. Manning, E. Manning)
Pac 12: 10 Super Bowl wins: (Elway, Plunkett, Rypien, Aikman, Rodgers, Foles)
ACC: 2 Super Bowl wins: Unitas, Brad Johnson (though....Wilson also spent a couple of years at NC St.)
Notre Dame and BYU: 7 wins (Montana, Theisman, Young, McMahon)
FCS/Mid major FBS/lower level: 13: Staubach, Bradshaw, Simms, Williams, Favre, Warner, Dilfer, Ben R. Flacco
(Another reason to avoid Big 12 QBs?..though Aikman did spend a couple of years at Oklahoma)

I was just about to say Aikman was a hybrid until I reached your bottom line.

So what does all of this tell you with a sample size of 51 or 52? NOTE: Montana, Bradshaw, Staubach and others tend to skew the numbers a bit.
1. Go with the P5 conferences natutally, 10 B1G/PAC, 9 SEC and then the lower 13 and 7 ND/BYU.
2. The Gip has too much free time on his hands, oh yeah I can see it when he totally retires.

No Big 12 QB has ever won a playoff game. This Hostetler dude didn't play in the Big 12.

I said "under the current alignment"....but yes....I know what you say.
So...the history of it is:
The old Southwest Conference existed from 1914 to 1996.
For most of its history, the core members of the conference were Texas-based schools plus one in Arkansas, Rice University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University,Texas Christian University, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Texas. After a long period of stability, Arkansas left in 1991 to join the Southeastern Conference. Five years later, the conference precipitously broke up as Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech (which had entered in 1956) combined with the members of the former Big Eight Conferenceto form a new powerhouse, the Big 12 Conference, while Rice, SMU, TCU, and Houston found homes in less prominent conferences (although TCU later joined the Big 12).
Also...the Big 8 Conf. existed from 1907 to 1996.
The conference was dissolved in 1996. Its membership at its dissolution consisted of the University of Nebraska, Iowa State University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, theUniversity of Kansas, Kansas State University, the University of Missouri, the University of Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State University. The Big Eight kept its headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri.
Then they merged into the Big 12.
So...I guess the period of time for the Big 12 starts in 1996.
And you say that NO QB from any of the Big 12 schools has even won a single playoff game since the inception of that conference?
I find that highly surprising....but I did some checking and I think it is true.
Andy Dalton is 0-4 in postseason...the likes of Vince Young and RGIII were 0-1.
So...yes...it seems that is right....and it is amazing.
(closest guy to be considered a Big 12 QB to win a postseason game may be Kordell Stewart. But he graduated in 1995...one year before the formation of the Big 12...which at the time included Colorado. He did win a playoff game for the Squibs)
