QB X, Y or Z will still be available at 4...

I think this comment which I've seen often of late, usually related to Barkley at #1, is very wrong. All QB's are different players with a different skill set, a team picking at #1 should get one in their sights and see the offense they can build around him. And I think front offices do that.
I'd be very concerned if my FO was saying (for example only) well if we don't get Rosen at #4 we can take Mayfield, Darnold or Allen. That would suggest to me, a lack of a concise plan for the QB they would eventually draft.
-
We have learned enough about the 4 top QB's to know that they are all different. They all have different strengths and different weaknesses.
A QB needy team like we've been, for forever now, should be able to differentiate which one they like BEST. Which skills and weaknesses they prefer to have as the leader of their football team. To say that it doesn't matter which one we get would be pretty weird. Borderline stupid actually.

Josh Allen will be there.

Lots of teams do have a plan like that because they grade player A,B,C alike.
Anything can happen in the draft after pick # 1. Others have suggested that the Colts and Giants trading out of 2 and 3.
7 weeks to go until draft day and I dont see a concise lead QB amongst this crop of QBs.

This is an above average year for QB prospects and an above average year for teams searching for the position. Someone will win the Cousins sweepstakes but no short of five teams are vying to find a franchise dude in this draft.
Say we draft Barkley first. There's a very realistic chance the Giants take the QB they like, and the Colts trade down slightly (say to Broncos/Jets) to get their guy. That extremely plausible scenario means you're drafting the 3rd QB off the board. Who knows, maybe the Browns brass truly like three different dudes, but that seems crazy to me.
If you like at #4 at the QB position, you take him #1. If he turns into the next elite franchise guy, no one is going to say "well he would have been there maybe at 4!". It's frankly absurd to think otherwise.
-
I really like Barkley and I would love to have him on the Browns.....
But.... with the value the league puts on QB's I think you have to draft the QB you want first. Then let the Giants figure out if they want to draft a QB or take a RB at #2. Being that Eli is on the way out.... I betting they draft a QB too.
What's the realistic chance someone trades up with Indy to take another QB? I don't know but it's probably better than someone trading up to take a RB. I'm starting to think Barkley will be there at #4..... and if he isn't you take the best CB in the draft or Chubb.
I'm thinking the best case is there is a run on QB's after the Browns take theirs, the Jets panic at #4 and trade up with the Browns, Brown's swap with them at #6 and pick up another first rounder next year and take a blue chip position player at #6.

And a extra 2nd or 3rd this year...cause Dorsey is no dummy

Josh Allen will be there.
Josh Allen will be there.
Hey boo all four will be there at # 1

Seriously though the 2018 not a franchise one in the bunch QB Derby might be still going on draft day 1. AND at pick #4 only 1 or 2 might be picked, I think some defensive players might be in the top 5 this year.
Can't wait, gee almost a month of the MLB season will be over then!

Josh Allen will be there.

How about this: Go for a combination of Chubb/Fitzpatrick/Barkley/Derwin James
...and leave the QB position for round 2...and pick up Mason Rudolph?
I mean...this draft could end up being like 2012....when it was not really the top 5 QBs who came out best that year...but the next 3:
1 Indianapolis Colts Andrew Luck † QB Stanford Pac-12 1 2 Washington Redskins Robert Griffin III † QB Baylor Big 12 from St. Louis [R1 - 1];
2011 Heisman Trophy winner [N 2]1 8 Miami Dolphins Ryan Tannehill QB Texas A&M Big 12 1 22 Cleveland Browns Brandon Weeden QB Oklahoma State Big 12 from Atlanta [R1 - 12] 2 57 Denver Broncos Brock Osweiler QB Arizona State Pac-12 3 75 Seattle Seahawks Russell Wilson † QB Wisconsin Big Ten 3 88 Philadelphia Eagles Nick Foles † QB Arizona Pac-12 from Houston [R3 - 10] 4 102 O
Kirk Cousins † QB Michigan State Big Ten -
We have learned enough about the 4 top QB's to know that they are all different.

Unfortunately it's the Browns. There's no borderline about most of their decisions at qb.

Kirk Cousins † QB Michigan State Big Ten Yes Gip we know about that. But we're done shopping in the Bargain Aisle. We've tried that already. Couch was the last QB we drafted in the top 10. If anything, do as the Redskins did- take your fave Darnold\Rosen Mayfield at #1, and back it up with a Benkert or White in the 4th round. We do have two picks in both the fourth and fifth rounds to take a "developmental" guy. If we do that, Kizer is gone.

Sounds like an idea to me....except...as you know, a few services...or at least one...had Rudolph the best prospect...so by a certain point of view...he would not be a Bargain Aisle pickup.

These "services" to which you refer are mostly no more expert than you, me, & many others on this board.
I bestow upon them The Sgt Schultz "I know NOTHINK" Award.

Actually he is Gip- I've said a bunch of times the CBS ranking is an outlier. CBS hasn't yet moved Orlando Brown out of their top 10 prospects after that horrendous combine showing (Walter Football dropped him out of the first round) and are still showing Rudolph as the #1 qb, (Mayfield ranks as their #35 prospect). Tells me whoever is doing the CBS rankings doesn't know their azz from a hole in the ground. nfl.com has Rudolph as the #6 qb, along with the likes of Mike White and Luke Falk.
I'll trust Jeremiah's rankings (you know- the guy who used to be a pro scout) as not in the top 50 over some bozo at CBS with Internet access. I could come up with a better ranking without trying too hard.

The one I am talking about is CBS Sports. If they are in that boat, then you have to say that ALL services are in the same boat. History has shown that these services...as well as team scouts...often have no freaking clue.
Who would you rather have making your draft choices: the Professionals that have been picking players for the Browns for the last two decades...or some of these services...or you and me.

Or....maybe they are the ONLY ones who know their arse from a hole in a ground. (see my 2012 example, Rudolph, White, Falk may prove to be the best of this year, like Wilson, Cousins and Foles that year)
I bet you that I could come up with a better ranking than Jeremiah, Kiper, et al.
How about this: I will make you this wager.....that after 3 years Rudolph will have proven to be the best QB of the bunch that are up this year. A bottle of your favorite $25.00 wine. I can't afford any more...and you can still get plenty drunk on a $25 bottle.

OK You're on. $25 bottle of wine it is... But I'll let you reconsider after you take a look at their rankings- they are, IMHO pure dog poop. Whoever did those ratings was on some powerful hallucinogens. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospect-rankings/
Here's the LOL report from CBS, starting with Rudolph at #10. Lamar Jackson rated ahead of all the other qbs? Orlando Brown at #5? He'll be lucky to get drafted in the 4th round now. You know I don't like Josh Allen much, but the #116th prospect? Really? One spot ahead of my BHS alum and Ohio State product Jerome Baker. That, I agree is accurate for Jerome at #117.
I'll even double it up- no added investment from you. (as far as where they will get drafted). I'll take the first round- #1 to #32. For every slot a player gets drafted CBS vs. Jeremiah. CBS has Nelson at #3. If he gets drafted #3, that's a 0. (Correct). They have Saquon at #7. If he gets drafted #2, that's a -5. Rudolph #10, gets drafted #32, that's -22. We'll add up the minuses and see who's closer. I have no doubt I win, because Allen is going to be around a -100. Brown probably will be at least a -50.

No....no added bets. After 3 y ears, if Rudolph is not the best, most productive QB of the bunch I will owe you that $25.00 wine.
Your add on talks about where/when players are drafted compared to the CBS rankings. I am not going by that. I am going by pure performance over a specific period of time of one guy. I am basically saying that this could be 2012 territory.....where the top 4-5 QBs all perform below their draft position....and where the 5th/6th guy actually ends up being the best of the bunch.
Of course, watch something like this happen: Rudolph gets taken by the Steelfreeks...and BR goes down...he comes in plays lights out for their sorry arses. And my consolation for that would be a bottle of wine? OK, would need it to get wasted on if that happens.
(and hell....maybe Allen will be Brandon Weeden Jr.....to where that 117 rank is even too high)

While I wouldn't say he is top elite as a lot do, Luck is better than Foles or Cousins when healthy. A lot better. Foles had a GREAT year and then what 3 games in playoffs (one which wasn't spectacular). But he won a Super Bowl. So if you go by success by winning, then Luck has been more successful that way than Cousins.
Those 2 guys have 1 thing each over Luck, and 1 thing in common.
In common- better health.
For Foles- he has been more successful in Philly, everywhere else he is Josh McCown.
For Cousins- he will have a bigger contract. FOR NOW
