Support Growing for Browns NOT to Take a QB at Picks 1 or 4

  • Hue loves AJ McCarron, so if they don't think enough of any QB in this class to warrant a high pick (kinda like Wentz, Watson ect), then I could see them loading up on Defense and picking Chubb #1 and Minkah Fitz #4 or even trading down.

  • Needed a QB for 20 years have the #1 and #4 pick in a draft with more than one highly rated QB and people on here want us to take a RB.

    It's mind blowing really.

It's like they want to continue to be bad. Baffling.

  • Our GM wouldn't survive.  In his career and probably in life.

You have the 1st and 4th pick.  You basically get a "free pass" in the draft.  If the QB doesn't work out, you still have the #4 pick to fall back on.

  • This has to be the most stupid f u c k i n g post in the history of the Browns board.

  • All QBs have too large of a chance to be a bust.  The idea of Browns with so many needs are better of taking BPA at both spots seems to becoming a popular discussion amongst the TV talking heads.  Personally, I don't mind at all them sticking with Barkley and then Fitzpatrick or even Chubb at 4.  Much less risk by taking QB in 2nd or moving up to grab one who might fall to mid-first.  Getting the sure thing at top of first seems prudent.  No reason they can't come away with 2 all pro players, or even two potential HofFers with both those picks.  That might be smarter way to build your team.  I think too that the odds are not bad that one of the Non top 4 or 5 QBs in this draft end up being the bigger success stories as the seasons go by.  But as usual, what do I know!

Just dumb!!! This is why the browns continue to suck.  With just an average qb they win atleast 4 games last year. They take darnold at one, And Fitzpatrick at four.  Period.  Barkley will do nothing in the nfl without a great line.  The Ohio state defense shut him down completely.  Zeke was never shut down like that and with a busted up line this year he was good not great to think Barkley will change the game is ignorant.  You take a qb a guy that touches the ball 90 times a game not the guy that will touch it 20 times a game.

I'm not making a case for Barkley by saying this.  But OSU's D was basically all we had nationally last season.  Sure in the Big 10 it was strong, but we would not have beaten any team in the playoffs last season.  Back to the Big 10, yes our D was strong enough to keep them from outscoring us (39-38) yipee.  But don't forget these were both college teams.  With professional players around him, I can promise you he'd have more success.  Let's not forget that Zeke went to the Cowboys with a dominant Oline.  Try putting him on last years Browns team and see what he does.  Again, not making a case for Barkley, just that you can't view RBs in college by the teams they play.  Nor can you evaluate RBs coming in the pros until you see them play.  You need a good QB and a great OL.  The good QB keeps the Dline from stacking up players to stop the run.  This is just my opinion, if we pickup AJ McCarron, Sam Bradford, or Case Keenam in FA, and take Barclay at 1 or 4, pick up a decent WR with the 2nd pick, our O would be much better.  And don't forget we still have another #1 pick I didn't mention.

By highly rated, you mean one of these qbs that are rated 6-12 on every single big board out there.  Using  the number 1 pick on  player most likely rated 8th or 10th at best makes the most sense?

Listen, i get it.  You all are frustrated as hell and havent had a good qb in what, 20 years?  You have every right to be emotional regarding this topic.  But most of you are like an angry lynch mob, demanding immediate justice by wanting to hang someone who isnt guilty (or warrants it - it being a number 1 pick).

I could agree with you if any one of these qbs were rated #1, like say a Luck.  But hell, there isnt any agreement whatsoever by any two people who that best qb is this year.  Everyone is all over the place on these 4 guys.  Even all of you take turns saying why this  one or that one has got too many red flags and why you hope the Browns dont pick him.

But still out of emotion and frustration you want your team to flip a coin on one of them, bypassing a sure all pro type player that will surely immediately improve your team.  I am a brand new Browns fan, void of the emotion and frustration you all have been through.  So i see i look at it differently.

I see it more like you are practically building a team from scratch (1-31 being about as close to scratch as you can get).  I want as many all pro-type players that i can get at every position.  If it turns out i have built a great team before i find my qb so be it.  He will just be assured of more success the better team i can put him in front of.  But no way am i passing on a sure thing, at a position of need on top of it, for one of these non-top rated qbs, when there are other slightly less rated ones i can gamble on later.  I would even prefer to try something completely different for the browns, and go get a top qb whisperer to work with the young qb the Browns threw to the wolves last year and whoever they draft or sign in free agency this year.I

No, i agree with you in that a rb isnt going to make your team a winner by himself.  But he is one of the many pieces you need to help make any qb succesful, and you have a chance to get one that many experts are saying may be the best coming out in last 20 years.I

So, that's my feeling and i am sticking to it for now, while i sit back and continue to read why each of you hopes the Browns dont choose that qb,  Insert Name  Here, over the others.

  • Dorsey and company aren't going to pass on taking a QB at #1, it's that simple. It's better to pick and miss, than to pass and miss, as we have seen far too often around here.

Yes, opinions vary on who that will be from these "talking heads," who frankly seem to be wrong about the Browns most of the time. Peter King, Ian Rapoport, our good pal Jason LaCanfora and Mike Florio seem to take pleasure in needling the Browns online. Some of it is deserved, most of it is revisionist history.

We'll know a little bit more, or speculate a lot more, after FA begins March 14th.

Here I am typing the same crap I usually do.....sick and tired of draft talk from late October to late April. I long for the day we talk playoffs, this crap is old.

  • There are only like 6-7 people that ANY player needs to support them for either the #1 or #4 pick:

     Dorsey

    Wolf

    McGloughan

    Jackson

    Haley

    Williams

and maybe ultimately: Haslam. (not even sure that Highsmith has any kind of say)

Unless you have heard directly from these people....no one know jackshite about nothing.

  • Think about this, the Browns were 10th in the NFL in rushing last year.

The running game REALLY isn't that bad to draft a RB at #1...good lord we've reached a new level of stupidity to even think about it!

And there are many backs in this draft far better than the Blind Crow we had to rely on. Trade into the bottom of the 1st and take the best not named Barkley.

Right.. Don't tell the Barkley pumpers He's not Zeke Elliot, Jim Brown or even Emmitt Smith. Running backs are a dime a dozen today..  See Isiah Crowell and Peyton Hillis...

We don't know what Dorsey is thinking- him and Wolf will outrank Hue on the QB issue. They had their marching orders from Haslam- starting at the introductory press conference- find us a freaking quarterback. Chubb might be there at #4, Fitzpatrick definitely will be.

The problem building the team before you have your quarterback rarely works, and almost always involves a ton of luck. Like the Steelers with Roethlisberger. There's a thing called positional value. the #6 quarterback is far more valuable than the #1 running back in view of long term success. Dorsey ranks running back around 5th in positional value behind qb, edge rusher, LT, and CB.

So we take Barkley and a top defender, and improve the team enough to get caught in no-man's land in 2019, out of position and not enough ammo (short of selling the ranch) to move up high enough to get our #1 rated qb. You do realize when you have a Andrew Luck at the top of the board- you could offer (and I think the Browns did) your entire draft to move up, and you'll get turned down if the team with the #1 pick needs a quarterback. If you sell the ranch to move up and guess wrong (Redskins and RG III) you're screwed for at least three years.

It's the situation the Giants will find themselves in a few years down the road should they take Barkley and not the heir apparent to Eli.

This isn't the year to "play it safe". As Gip said, it's a buffet of riches, you pick the flavor you (meaning Dorsey and Wolf) like best. BTW nfl.com has Darnold rated 7.1 meaning "pro bowl to all pro ability". At least one of the commentators says he's as good as Carson Wentz- that good enough for you?  I'll certainly take that over the garbage we've been served up recently. One step below Saquon- but then again a QB needy team like the Browns is going to invariably take the position of greatest need. If the Browns really covet Saquon that much (doubtful) there's always the opportunity to swing a trade with the Giants and get both. For the record, I've seen more than one posited scenario should the Browns start the qb rush, there's a good possibility with trade ups, Barkley could still well be there at #4.   But with Dorsey's propensity to take his running backs later in the draft- I'm betting he can find someone in the second round that will give us at least 90% of the production Saquon will.

Here's an interesting little factoid I saw on another board. Since we drafted Couch in 1999, we've drafted three centers  #21 or higher- and no quarterbacks. I can guarantee you that losing streak is coming to an end this year.

Or what flavor of bologna do you want we have several? 😆

UNFORTUNATELY the BROWNS continuing QB saga keeps dragging on and they will probably end up picking  (wasting) a pick on one at #1 or 4.

The results will be in in approximately 2 to 5 years. 🙂🙁

    GO BROWNS 2019!
