Carlos Hyde is a Brown

Report: Browns will still consider drafting Barkley despite signing Hyde
Jack BrowneMar 14 2018, 11:03 AM
The Cleveland Browns reportedly handed a significant contract to Carlos Hyde - $15 million over three seasons - in free agency, but that signing won't eliminate top running back Saquon Barkley from the team's draft board, a league source told ESPN's Pat McManamon.
"Nobody is ruled out," the source said of the Browns' draft board.
Barkley is reportedly in play to be the first running back taken No. 1 overall since 1995. Cleveland owns the No. 4 overall pick too, but it seems unlikely that the former Penn Statestandout will still be available at that spot.

The Browns also have Duke Johnson to pair with Hyde, so adding Barkley could give Cleveland one of the league's most versatile and explosive backfields.

Of course they will say that...they have to. It kind of tells other teams: You want Barkley....give us the sun, the moon, the stars and the deep dark sea.
What team (PoG is not a team) is drooling over getting a RB?
I know...no one wants the Browns to trade the #1.....but Dorsey did say he was open for business.....so we have to somewhat take him at his word.
What would it take to trade out of #1....if someone was creaming in their jeans over getting Barkley?

Exactly....total smoke screen to make teams think we will take him even though there is no chance in hell. If the QB's go 1, 2 and 3 and we are sitting there at 4 with Barkely on the table, I'd expect the phone to be ringing and there's a good chance we would trade back a couple spots.

Usually I roll my eyes at you OSU homers, but I have actually been a fan of Hyde since he was in HIGH SCHOOL, leading Naples High here to the State Championship, I remember telling you Buckeyes you were getting a great talent.
Not a lot of wear on him, definitely an upgrade over Crow ...
But I'm not COMPLETELY writing off Barkley just yet, I think the Browns are definitely giving themselves flexibility to go after BPAs in the draft no matter what the position. Been a long time since we've had depth ... feels weird.

You and Po can hug it out when the Browns don't draft Barkley. Teams don't pay 5 mill per season for a guy to sit on the bench. Factor that with Dorsey never drafts RB's high in the draft and all the Barkley love and the 500000000000 posts about him by a certain person who shall remain nameless was a waste of time.

LOL, I agree it is very highly unlikely now ... but a Boy can dream.

Yes, flexibility to go after anyone is correct. You know, like another DE.
I mean, think about it....they could still be angling for Poe as FA for the middle.
So, if you have Garrett, Poe, Ogbah....Chubb....plus Ogunjobi/Brantley/Meder/Nassib?
Could the Browns do this:
Cry Havoc...and Let Slip the Dogs of War!!

Make sure to hold Po really tight when you homos hug it out. He's going to need all the emotional support you can give him.

how did the browns sheet the bed? FA needs both the player and FO to agree on contracts. Just because the browns have money doesn't mean 1) they should overpay for someone 2) that player x wants to play for the browns 3) the browns actually like the player as much as the media does 4) winning in FA doesn't mean winning on the field
I think the browns have added talent, spent some money but haven't blown away all their money. They are adding pieces.
First throw the budgeting the money out the window. They themselves have said they are going to spend away. To assume they aren't going to overpay is simply stupid. A team that with our record is going to overpay for talent plain and simple. As far as not being our fault players couldn't agree to our offers, cowpoop. It's our FO's job to SELL our offer and team. Lastly "winning in free agency doesn't mean winning on the field" , great saying and SOMETIMES true. Overall it's one of those silly pictures that get posted on corporate walls. But hey either way GO BROWNS!! Let's hope they finish FA strong and kill the draft.

4Ya gotta admit, 1-31 is a pretty tough sell.

Pretty happy about this signing. Hyde and Duke will be a great 1-2

You'll be happier when we target Mo at 33 or 35. (Provided he doesn't go back half of the 1st)

The DT from TUN? He is not supposed to last that long...but, if he is there....and they have not picked up Poe or one of the other DTs in FA....he may be worth a look as an interior DL.
I see a need at 3tech and I can see him going anywhere from 20ish to top 30's.

Someone go round and check on PoG because we know what this means (if we didn’t already)
Probably means we are trading out of 4 with The Bills for 12 and 22

As said, not necessarily. If Chubb is still there, it will be hard to pass on the defensive BPA. Him and Garrett are the makings of a dominant d-line.
Someone send Ghoolie round to talk him down............actually come to think of it better not ...
The post below might talk him off the ledge....
I am guessing yeah just because Hyde is 27. Getting one of the 2nd round or mid round RBs would be advisable. A Hyde, Michel, Duke rotation would be nice.
I fully approve of a RB in the second. With Joe retiring, one of those picks in the second might be an OT. Or, hate to say it trade down, take Buffalo's picks and take the top OT at #12? I don't think so, BPA at #1 and #4.

MHO? Predraft smoke. As Mark said, you don't pay a RB $5 million a year to sit on the bench.

Who would be a worth pick in round one of the Browns traded down at the OT position?
McGlinchey seems to be the only name that comes to mind. Surely not Orlando Brown JR.
