Corey Coleman - now remembered as leading the beating....

I agree jrb---especially with this little ditty right out of the article.
"Sapp, who grew defensive and at times combative with Mack, denied making up the claims. He said he has been working with a psychologist jog his memory and pieces of the night have started coming back to him "in flashes."
He also said seeing surveillance video during his testimony in the November trial, video that showed Corey Coleman walking at the front of the group toward the garage."

Indeed. And you know I get there is actually legit ways to bring out memories, but I'd be very surprised in a criminal trial where the burden of guilt is higher that this changes anything for Corey. Of course I'm not a lawyer so I have no real idea, just seems very unlikely to me. I know as a juror I'd have an extremely tough time qualifying that as proof of guilt.
Wouldn’t Coleman have to be found guilty in a civil suit before any compensation can be given.
Yes, generally speaking. The burden of proof is also lower in civil cases so who knows what these "new memories" may mean. However, any lawyer worth his salt would argue pretty damn hard that a memory of someone with a damaged brain should not amount to quality evidence.

and perhaps ending up in jail. He is probably gone.

Okay beating victim this is your Law Firm calling, there's only one guy within a square mile of the altercation with deep enough pockets for us to sue. Call us back and see if you remember anything else, thank you.

It's never been about if he was there or not. He's not denied he was there but has denied from the start he had anything to do with the actual assault. I could definitely see this being enough for Mr. Godell to slap a 4 game suspension on him though.

Possible, but since the attack took place last June would Goodell not have done so last season?

I don't believe he will be charged, but it doesn't help with Coleman's problems:
A. The trade for Jarvis Landry
B. dropsies
C. playing like he doesn't really care
D. Our new OC already dumped Sammie Coates, and the draft will surely bring in one, maybe two wr's out of the draft.
I was thinking before this he would get traded - can't depend on him to catch the ball. that hideous miss was vs the steelers, right?
and who is our new OC ?
Just a hunch - I think he could be on the hot seat if a couple of draftees show they can beat him out in training camp and the exhibition season gets a few games done.
or, the light goes on, and he becomes a football player. I just don't know.

He also dropped that perfect pass in the end zone. For as horrible as Kizer was , you gotta help him out and make the damn catch when he puts it on your hands.
Coleman is another soon to be failed draft pick.

He's not very good. Certainly not good enough to put up with bs for. Belichick would cut him.

Looks like it, but we'll probably let him stick around for 2018, see below...

He's sort of expensive to flat out cut now. His dead cap is almost $7 million. Scheduled to make $3 million this year. If he continues to exhibit dropsies or owies, it's bye-bye next year. Dead cap goes down to $3.7 million, which is the rest of his $11 million guaranteed at signing.

We got Coleman because we didn't want Wentz. (I wanted Wentz. Why the hell did we not pick Wentz.....)
My deceased best friend wanted Coleman, and I wanted Treadwell. He got Treadwell & I got Coleman. Sadly, neither has been worth much.
I'm surprised the Ghoul hasn't seen this thread and come in for a curtain call.

I'm pretty sure either way, Coleman can't be charged with anything considering this would be a double jeopardy type scenario. If there is a lawyer on this board, correct me if I'm wrong?
I didn't bother to read the article.....but someone commented that he had never been charged.
If he has never been charged....then no jeopardy applied. So he hasn't been subject to single jeopardy.....let alone double jeopardy.
Double jeopardy would be if he HAD been charged....and been found not guilty...but then the authorities tried to charge him again.

Unless his name was OJ.

Well not exactly. OJ was sent up for the strong arm move in Vegas and he lost the Civil suit to the Brown family on causing her death. Niether was a true double jeopardy, but they still made him pay nonetheless.

OJ was never charged again. There was a subsequent civil action.....but that is in no way an issue of double jeopardy. That was just for a money judgment.
No....the area where someone may appear to be put in double jeopardy are these cases where a person is accused of a crime in state court (possibly something that might be labeled a "hate crime")....but then whether convicted or acquitted, then face Federal Civil Rights Violation charges. Those are considered wholly separate crimes under a wholly separate code.

They don't have to charge Coleman if they can find a way to bleed him dry.

True.... Obviously a criminal action is not required for someone to bring a civil action.
You all might find this case interesting:
I had a guy come to me to see about taking action against a "former friend" of his. My guy lived in Doylestown...but he often came over to the Sokol Club in Barberton to drink (Steve knows where it is). Now, this former friend of his lived just down the street from that club and knew that my guy frequented that beer joint (yes..that is what it is). And this guy must have planned this out.
One day when my client was in the Sokol Club, he had to come back out to his car to get something. When he did that he saw this guy dumping something from a plastic bottle in his gas tank. My guy yelled at him....and the guy dropped the bottle on the ground, but had already emptied it. Then the guy then took off. My guy picked up the bottle and found that it had some remnants in it and could tell that it was filled with a mixture of water, dirt, and oatmeal......and he had emptied this 2 liter bottle into my clients gas tank.
My client called the police who took a report....but they failed to do anything about it. So we sued. My guy had to have a lot of work done to his motor, so he had a couple of grand in damages. The guy in question had some beef with my client over the time that they both lived near each other....and apparently wanted some form of revenge. We did settle, the guy paid up....but it was a case where no criminal action was brought that could have/should have...but we did bring a civil suit instead.

I call it money in my pockets because not only did he have to settle to pay my client back, but he also had to pay my fees.
