Denzel Ward

lol... and so begins the turn to "I knew it all along"...
I really want to see the posts where Gip "thought this thru".
Serious? Obuse a bit? You won't see posts where I express my thought processes....only my conclusions. Besides...did you not read what I said?
I said that I had questioned the choice of Ward over Chubb initially...but then after thinking it through....I concluded that if their talents were equal, that it was in the Browns interests to choose the CB...because it is a position of far greater need for us.
Did you miss that whole expression....or were you too self involved in your desire to be critical that it passed you over?

You call a poster "clueless" and I am the critical one. lol
You barely mentioned Ward thru the entire draft build up (I know... I checked) and then want to claim "insight"... without ever having taken a stand or showing your work.
You are the biggest fraud on this forum.
And going back on ignore... which is a big time saver for me.

Defending Steeler fans now? I called him clueless because he was. And I am calling you on your impatience and eager desire to criticize...without thought.

Well....NO SHITe Sherlock I never mentioned Ward in the draft buildup.....almost NO ONE had any thought for him, now did they? And I did NOT claim to have any insight. Where the fuyuck do you see that I said that? I said that AFTER the Browns took Ward that I realized what sense it made.
And what is this STAND that I am supposed to have taken? The ONLY "stand" I recall making was about Mason Rudolph...and how I thought that he could turn up to be the best QB on the board. I made a stand there.....I proposed a bet with you.....that he would be taken in Round one. YOU are the one that failed and refused to take a stand by taking me up on that bet. So. who is the one not taking a stand? You Chickened out. Chicken
And what is this "Work" that I am supposed to have shown....that one comes from way out in left field. I didn't realize we were doing Math.
You are the biggest fraud on this forum.
Really? I admit when I am wrong. I got it wrong about Rudolph. I never claimed to take any stance about Ward. I said afterward that it then made sense after it was done and I gave it some thought. Something you never seem to do with your posts lately (because of your over eagerness to be critical I suspect).
And going back on ignore... which is a big time saver for me.
And there you go.....back on your menstrual cycle. Another diklikkinchikin move. You may as well do nothing in your defense...since you have no defense. Maybe you can't see what I say...but everyone else can see you bleed.

Now this is interesting. According to Highsmith are doing away with the centerfield safety position which we had because our corners sucked.

So baring Wilson breaking out, we can shade our FS to the side of our remaining CB that sucks?

I've said that in the past - the corners were toast downfield - the Browns had to have Peppers back there to try to limit
the quick scores on long passes. This is GREAT to hear.

I always thought the Browns were a DB away.
Tour may want to update his signature to read "DB is one of the hardest positions for a rookie to learn, he'll get better"
Same dung we heard about Gilbert
Hardly a valid criticism. Because One highly-touted DB is lazy and doesn't work out they all must be. Are you saying Gilbert failed because the position is too hard to learn?

Absolutely not. I've been saying that DB is one of the hardest positions to play based on league rules and physical superiority of many WRs. Many in here supported Gilbert saying that DB was a hard position to learn in year one and then in year 2 crickets. I don't value DBs as high as other defensive players due to the previously mentioned reasons and that they typically have a very short shelf life at an elite level.

that's because Gilbert didn't love the game, seemed to not care, and seemed to be not very smart. He was the wrong cb to have ever drafted. Hanford Dixon played at an elite level right up to 1988, his last year was 1989. He was drafted in 1981, first round.
He was All-pro in 87 and 88. Went to the pro bowl 86-88.
Then there was also Frank Minnifield. Graduated in 82, played in the USFL, and went to the NFL and the Browns in 84. All 5'9", 180 lbs of him.
- 4× Pro Bowl (1986–1989)
- First-team All-Pro (1988)
- NFL 1980s All-Decade Team
- Inducted into KY Pro Football HOF (2004)
Gilbert had no heart, no work ethic, and not much smarts. All the talent, but didn't care.

Ward will see far better QB play than here but here's some of his work on tall WR's.. https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2018/5/4/17318096/observations-from-denzel-wards-game-against-indiana Day 1 in the books at rookie Mini Camp of 3 day Camp https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2018/5/4/17321860/notes-from-day-1-of-browns-rookie-minicamp

I'm not really sure what it was cal. Just seemed to have a lot of mental issues impeding the player who was considered the best DB in the country. Something went haywire between that level of play and what we saw in Cleveland and then on out of the NFL. It's just too big a change to write off as no heart, work ethic and/or intelligence when you have to have that to get to that level in the first place. My question would be did the Browns send him in for a thorough mental health evaluation? The clues were overwhelming that he certainly needed one. Surely any NFL team has access to that kind of expertise.

Interesting stuff I've noticed: Corbett was #73 in college, and has taken #63. They must have told him that they are retiring number 73 thanks to Joe Thomas, or he's not trying to bear such a number being a rookie.
Desmond Harris might be in his way of making the roster as UDFA, and that's good news.
Like you've said getting better players at WR, QB and CB improves each of the other groups. Practice must be way different this year than last, when all those corps were awful thus not pushing each other up.

Bailed on practice already. Not promising but we'll see...

Buried in that article I found this little jewel. Tour didn't you have him as a darkhorse at one time?

Yup... Bryce was my desperation darkhorse the year he came out. Did not jump out and demand the honor as others have, but was the best the candidates in that class.

This is totally the insomnia’s fault, but I read the comments. Seeing someone refer to Brock Osweiler as a “way competent” backup gave me a way-too large grin.

He had the skill to out-athlete people in college. When he hit the NFL, and he couldn’t just simply be the better athlete anymore we saw that he wasn’t truly invested in being great.
Its a shame when people shoot themselves in the foot like that.

History is littered with stories like that... players who were so athletically gifted that they never had to learn how to play. Then, as the competition level rose thru the distillation process that is the NCAA and NFL, they found it was too late and/or too hard to learn... at least it was harder than what they were willing to bear.
Does seem like for every non-QB you hear this of, you hear it of a QB, which makes sense given that QB is the highest skilled position. Leaf, Manziel, Pryor all sring to mind, but I'm hard-pressed to think of another CB to add to the Gilbert list... maybe Clayborne?
