Why is the NFL devaluing safeties?
Well our team certainly did not devalue safeties in the off-season. We went and got ourselves a CB whose real position in FS and took the guy who had played there and put him in his natural position as SS. Both ++ moves for the Cleveland Browns. And I'm not worried about any QB controversy. If TT keeps the ball away from the opposition and moves the chains enough to rest that D, the season will look like night and day compared to 2016 /17. I think folks will stop laughing at us and start cheering for the underdogs to pull off some real "upsets" that will not even look like upsets.

it's really the SS position that is being devalued as the lesser of the two.....

We didn't underestimate the safety position THIS year, but last year we literally didn't have a free safety playing with ANY position experience until that undrafted rookie got in the game later in the season. I forget his name, but he sucked. He got toasted one game for the easiest TD ever, and he also had a TERRIBLE 15 yard dead ball penalty on 3rd down. I forget the exact game, but it was SO BAD. I want you guys to think about that for a second. We had a position on our defense filled with people that literally had ZERO experience, and then we rectified it by throwing in an undrafted schmuck. Oh, and our other solution was to play Peppers as far back as possible. Yikes.Ā
However, enough about last year, we all know it sucked. This year we certainly addressed it, and we're bringing over Damarious Randall from Green Bay who was miscast as a CB. He's back to his natural position, which he loves btw, AND this allows Peppers to actually do what HE does best. What a freaking epiphany! To help with depth, Boddy-Calhoun is taking snaps at FS in case of injury. Wow, brilliant.Ā
The guy many AREN'T talking about in our secondary is EJ Gaines. He's had injury problems, but check out his numbers when he's healthy. He's pretty darn good, folks. We a actually have a real secondary this season, and don't forget we probably have one of the best 4-3 linebacker sets in the league. Our starters are Schobert, Jamie Collins (will be healthy in 2-3 weeks I think), and Christian Kirskey. Not bad peeps.Ā

the more I look at it - the more the Browns' pick of Mayfield really was very, very smart.

I predict Mayfield and the Browns will WIN this year - not just a few, either.
It's in the cards...

Cal officially likes Baker - kiss of death.Ā

From looking at that, it sounds like we have at least 4Ā slam dunk future Hall of Famer QBs from this draft. I'm sold for sure , aren't you?

I believe the immortal bard wrote a play with the most accurate title concerning all of this at this point in time, "Much Ado About Nothing".
And naturally enough it's a comedy.??

Interesting about Mike White, though. He's a very smart qb - hope Dallas keeps him as a #3.

Baker's got his work out cut for him.
Since 1999 we've been "graced" by the following:
Overall record of "top" QB's, sorted by wins
Tim Couch 22-37
Derek Anderson 16-18
Brian Hoyer 10-6
Most wins in Cleveland's "new" (post-1999) stadium
Ben Roethlisberger* 12
Derek Anderson 11
Tim Couch 8
Most touchdowns in Cleveland's "new" (post-1999) stadium
Tim Couch 25
Derek Anderson 23
Ben Roethlisberger* 18
* denotes player does/did not actually play for the Browns
Literally the only other situation I know of where a quarterback has dominated an opposing team in the last 2 decades in its own stadium so consistently is Tom Brady in Buffalo. He has 14 wins there (more than anyone but Drew Bledsoe who also has 14), but actually has thrown more touchdowns (38) in Buffalo than any actual Bills QB during that same era including Bledsoe.
The earliest any Browns QB could hope to get 12 wins in Cleveland is October 2019.

What happens to Tyrod Taylor if Baker Mayfield beats him out? Hey, Mary Kay!

I really hope the Browns stick to the plan to slow-play Mayfield, and perhaps let him start at the end of the season if he's legitimately ready for it. If not, let him sit the entire season.
But this always sounds like a great idea to the Browns... in May, June, July...Ā ?
