Well since we play the steelrz again Halloween week and since Le'Veon Bell is still a football player there....I think I thought this was somewhat interesting from the Pittsburgh TRIB:  https://triblive.com/sports/columnists/timbenz/breakfastwithbenz/14071803-74/did-steelers-leveon-bell-change-comeback-plan-after-teammates-comments

Do you think negative comments by Steelers players will keep running back Le'Veon Bell away from the team longer than he originally planned?

Le'Veon Bell spotted partying in Miami as Steelers prep for Chiefs

    TRIBUNE-REVIEW | Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, 4:24 p.m.

    Updated 20 hours ago

Le'Veon Bell reportedly pulled an all-nighter this week, but he wasn't studying the Pittsburgh Steelers' playbook.

Bell, who remains away from the team as the NFL season enters its second week, was hanging out in a Miami nightclub until the wee hours of Tuesday morning,TMZ Sports reported ........

.......TMZ Sports said Bell arrived at Rockwell in Miami's South Beach around midnight and partied at the club for several hours. He was spotted hanging around the DJ booth and taking pictures with clubgoers.

Bell has remained in Florida, purportedly training for his eventual return to the Steelers, while the NFL season continues without him. Bell was a no-show before the Steelers played at Cleveland on Sunday, and coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that he has no idea when the running back will rejoin his teammates.

Bell will lose $855,000 in salary for each week he misses this season. He needs to be on the active roster for six games to accrue a year toward free agency in 2019. Bell is hoping to land a mega-contract next year once he become free to negotiate with other teams........

I still think Bell is better than almost every RB in the NFL, especially with that OL and the skills of big ben, from that article......

....... Le'Veon Bell had a comeback plan. 'Had.'

Former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew says he has spoken to Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell. He revealed on "The Dave Dameshek Football Program" that the two had a conversation before the Week 1 matchup in Cleveland.

Among the topics discussed, MJD says Bell wasn't happy that his teammates talked about his contract publicly, but he was still rooting for them Sunday in the season-opener against the Browns.

Jones-Drew also said that Bell is happy for James Conner, but that Bell should feel justified in staying away from the team because of it. His thinking is that if Conner got 31 carries, how many more than that would've been given to Bell?

More importantly, Jones-Drew said that Bell had a return strategy in place that may have been impacted by his teammates publicly commenting about his contractual status.

"I don't know when he comes back," Jones-Drew said. "He had a plan. He told me, but I will never say it.

"I knew. But then I didn't know because all this stuff came out after the players said (what they did about his contract)."

At one point, Bell was described as "livid" over that development by Jones-Drew. Later on, though, the former Jaguar says Bell rationalized away that emotion by stating his teammates just didn't understand the situation.

MJD also said Bell is working out every day and staying in shape........

........edit, it looks like it must have been taken down, he's staying in shape all right..... By the way ... this ain't the first time Bell's partied the night away instead of practicing with his teammates -- remember when he slapped all that butt at the booty club during training camp!?

Wrong on a bunch of counts...  The $14 million he's guaranteed under the franchise tag isn't chump change, and certainly not a bargain. That was the average of the 5 highest paid running backs. The Steelers offered to make him the highest paid running back in the league, but that wasn't good enough.  Gurley did get more- later.

In theory, you can franchise a player forever- but in practice, you can't. Should Bell come back this year, and the Steelers tag him a third time, he'd be due a salary of the average of the 5 highest paid quarterbacks . A quick look at Spotrac tells me that's around $30 million. Another year on top of that it goes up 144%.   So effectively, the Steelers will either have to work out a long term contract with Bell, or let him walk. Or, they can rescind the tag and try to trade him. Trading him is the likely scenario, assuming Connor keeps up the sort of production he had against the Browns.  MHO is Bell has burned too many bridges in Pittsburgh for the Steelers to want him back.

Yeah, he can hold out until week 11 to preserve his ability to avoid another tag, and piss away around $9 million in the process.

cant trade him unless he's under contract, and bell hasn't signed the tag.  even if he does sign it, then willing partner has to pay the remainder of the tag as the deadline for negotiating a deal expired July 17th iirc.  if they rescind the tag, bell immediately becomes a free agent and they miss out on a 3rd round compensatory pick.  so, not really much in the way of options for the stools.

Discussion was had on the radio about  what team may actually give Bell a long term contract next year of the kind he is apparently demanding.

The consensus was that there was ONLY 1 or 2 teams that might bite:    Indianapolis, who desperately could use help for Andrew Luck (and they have none now),  or Green Bay.  But, Green Bay already has its money invested in Aaron Rodgers.

And while there may be a few other teams that seem like they could maybe use a RB,  none would go for the contract he would want....or they do not have the cap space even if they wanted.   (New England, Miami, TB, Washington)

Again, the context of that statement really needs to be said out loud. What your annual contract says in terms of dollars means jack squat. Although maybe it'd be cool to hold the mantra of biggest contract, every NFL player is striving for the guaranteed portion of the deal. According to many credible (albeit unconfirmed) reports, that fully guaranteed value was placed at $10 million, or so. For contrast, Gurley's guarantee is essentially $22 million fully guaranteed from his deal.

David Johnson coming out off a torn ACL just got $30 million guaranteed (although we don't know the "fully guaranteed" number). As I said before, I don't agree with Bell but it's impossible to argue he doesn't deserve the same, if not slightly better, contract that these guys got. I can understand why Bell wouldn't want to put his body through 400 touches again this year even though it means leaving millions on the table. The tag is guaranteed but say he goes out there and tears an ACL. That could leave $10 million + of money on the table.

Amazingly Bell's 406 season total in 2017 is only the 35th highest in NFL history.

I'm aware they are the same and I think it's ridiculous that people think he was "run into.the ground" or that the steelers would run him into the ground again. Fact of the matter is the steelers have a bunch of mouthes to feed, not just his and they offered him a huge contract and he shot it down. I don't have a problem with him holding out at all. He's not being paid until he does report BUT did say he was going to report like last year and now he isn't so the offensive line is pissed off. I don't care if he plays another down for the steelers. I also don't want the team to mortgage the farm to pay him what he wants, the market isn't what he's asking. You aren't going to suddenly see a slew of running backs asking for 17m per.

The salary cap isn't working, plain and simple. Any star player coming up for a new contract after his rookie deal wants more money, and there's just not enough money to go around on a 53 man roster.

Not knowing the figures, I think the cut for the players needs to be higher than what it is presently. Then these disputes may lessen.

That's not how the tag works...

An "exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of a date in April of the current year in which the tag will apply, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater.

Since Bell was offered his 2nd consecutive tag it has to be 120% of the previous year.

In league that strives for parity... yes, it's working.

And the cap increases every year.
