Would love to get in on a tailgate that morning near the stadium. Been a few years since I've been to Brown's stadium. GO BROWNS!

Where the hell do you live
Some hillbilly place that refers to sweet, carbonated drinks as "soda"? ?

Sounds like you guys are getting dangerously close to having a good ole Hootenanny. ?
Hope you have fun at the game! I traveled to the New Orleans game and had fun until the inevitable, heart-breaking conclusion, LOL!
I'm not saying we're going to WIN this game, but I will say I fully expect a motivated team to fight their butts off. I think you're going to a fun game, and I don't believe we'll get smoked like a lot of people are saying. I see a pick-6 by our defense, I see Duke getting heavily involved, and I see Chubb having 100+ yards. Baker goes for 300+ with 2 td's. It'll be a fun game, even if we don't win. I feel it.

Where the hell do you live
I remember it was used all the time growing up in UK then the common name became mineral ( Shmuck knows why ) then when I moved to USA Florida its soda .....never heard anyone in Florida call it pop

In a lot of those areas (all over the south) they call anything that we would call pop or soda "Coke". If you ask for a Coke here, we know that you want a Coca Cola. Down there they ask "What kind of Coke do you want"?
I thought "soda" was usually an East Coast or California word. When I hear the word "soda" I think of either like seltzer water, club soda, or baking soda.

So who gives a shite about what they call it in Florida? Florida just an extension of the Northeast.
We live in a Blue state!! I just wonder what the "other" could be.

Here is my answer:
- "Tonic" is used in eastern Massachusetts and parts of Maine and New Hampshire. Its usage has been gradually declining in favor of "soda." In some areas, "tonic" is still understood to mean "soft drink," but many regard it as an antiquated term.[10]
- "Soda pop" is used by some speakers, especially in the Mountain West. "Soda" or "drinks" is common in Idaho and Utah.
- "Drink", "cold drink", and "soda" are locally common in southern Virginia and theCarolinas, spreading from there as far as Louisiana.
- "Soda water" is used in more rural parts of the US.
- "Soft drink" or "cold drink" is the phrase of choice in New Orleans, and most of east Texas as far west as the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (although in the DFW Metroplex itself the usage is somewhat colloquial).
- At many restaurants in the U.S., the products of only a single major beverage producer, such as The Coca-Cola Company or PepsiCo, are available. While most patrons requesting a "coke" may be truly indifferent as to which cola brand they receive, the careful server will confirm intent with a question like "Is Pepsi OK?" Similarly, 7 Up or Sprite orSierra Mist may indicate any clear, carbonated, citrus-flavoured drink at hand. The generic uses of these brand names does not affect the local usage of the words "pop" or "soda" to mean any carbonated beverage.

And sodi pop in some deep east Texas backwoods places when asking your cousin for a date, i.e. "Wanna go for a sodi pop darlin'?"?
️??

That's surprising, considering how many people in Florida are originally from the North.

Good point...come to think of it, I don't recall hearing anyone say "when I retire I'm moving to Ohio".

I have. My sister moved from Florida to Ohio when she retired. Lived there 35 years.

We know some people who have retired to the gulf side of FLA that have been thinking of relocating, some all the way back north.
This red tide isn't helping along with a lot of other "social", environmental and other reasons. One told me how they sold everything up north came south and might be stuck there now. A really hot year this year too around Ft. Meyers, Sanibel, etc. But nice place to visit in the winter.

So much for hating to shovel snow.
