The biggest games of the coming week between playoff contending teams  are actually   two  AFCN  vs. NFCS  games:

    Carolina at Pittsburgh,   Thursday night

    Saints at Bengals   Sunday  1:00

I guess we shall see which of these divisions is the stronger.......as Browns play Falcons, another AFCN vs. NFCS.    Ravens are on bye week.

Also, this gem of a Monday Night game:

Giants at 49ers!!      Could be big in that  #1 pick race.  (did the schedule makers really think these teams would be good....or were they just going for the big market matchup?   I think the latter.

  • The "race" for the #1 overall draft pick:

    Raiders  1-7

    Giants  1-7

    49ers  2-7

    Bills  2-7

    Cardinals  2-6

    Browns 2-6-1

Additional note......in both the playoff picture And the draft order picture  those TIES loom large:   Steelers have a half game division lead over Bengals because of tie (which could also be extrapolated to a 1.5 game lead, because the Bengals lost to the Squibs).   The Vikings tie on their record  5-3-1 means that they trail the Bears who are at 5-3.

And, the tie on the Browns record means that they actually are considered to have a better record that the 2-7 and 2-6 teams.

Do not be surprised if these ties make some definite difference in the playoff/draft pick situations.

How long until we are back in our usual position of picking 1 ?

Probably never.  Browns are 1.5 games better than either Raiders or Giants.....and I might be surprised if either of those teams could win 2 more games.

That does not mean they will beat anyone else.....and even so,  head to head is NOT a  draft pick tie breaker.

Yeah, after a bunch of BS officiating calls kept the Raiders in the game.

Hey Gip, isn't there some protocol that even if the Browns have the worst record again, they don't get the #1  #1?

We're only 3 game outside of winning the division with 3 more division games to go. Whole lotta football, let's win this Sheet.

And for the record- NO team has ever had the #1 overall three years running, and I'd bet the ranch the Browns won't be picking first come 2019. That tie virtually guarantees it.
