One More Year..This Year

The Browns Board

  • Gentlemen and Ladies:

Here is what I think may be the course of the future for the Browns:   Under Dorsey, they wanted to use this year as essentially a test year.  The one persot to have been tested most was Hue J....and that test is complete.  There was at best a 50/50 chance he would not survive the season....and likely a 95-5 chance that he would not be back again next year.

So...that part of the test, of which there was potentially a foregone conclusion, is now over.   Browns will move forward with Dorsey's hand picked HC.

The other part of the test for this year was to get our young players experience.  How many first and second year starters do we have?   Half the team?  Dorsey knew that he would be able to acquire young talent with the draft picks we had...and has done so.  He also knew they  had to play and that they  had to develop,  but he also  knew there would be growing pains.   So, they would win a few, they would be competitive in many....of which they would likely lose as many as win;  and they would get blown out a few times.

It was shown in another thread that the Browns have had 3 different players win Rookie of the Week award.  The  Bringing in that kind of quality of talent was a major part of the plan.

So, where does the plan go from here:   For the rest of 2018:  A.  Continue developing these young guys.   B. Keep a few solid veterans as guideposts  C. Continue to be competitive...even if they are losing.

For 2019  A.  Acquire the best coaching staff you can get to train a young team.  B. Continue to acquire talent in the draft  C. Pick up a few key young veteran Free Agents.

And...ultimately for 2019.....compete for a playoff spot.   Realistically, it won't happen this year.  But they believe it can and will happen next year.

    So do I.

I am of the opinion that the Ravens, and probably the Bengals are ready for a downslide.....even with what they have there now.  The Squibs will still be a major hurdle as long as Norma Desmond (Drama Queen)  is their QB,  but the Browns showed that they could compete on an even basis with them....to a point, even now.

The Browns have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds next year ....I feel confident that Dorsey can hit on at least 3 of those to fill out some of the holes on this roster.

  • It won’t matter what players Dorsey picks. If the coaching   sucks.  The team will suck

We have the youngest roster. And it will most likely get younger  next year

Bad coaching will kill this team

Dorsey needs to find a HC that can bring together all the young talent and get them to produce on the field

    We need a McVay.

A Hue Jackson 2.0 could set the team back years.....

I'd be intrigued by Baker's former head coach, Lincoln Riley, doubt he'd leave his job though.

I'm definitely not sold on Josh McDaniel's....

Ball is definitely in Dorsey's court now

That being said, i'm sick and  tired of Hue Jackson being on every single sports show there is. First Take, Undisputed, Colin Cowherd, ect..... I'm sick he said he was CEO and hired Williams and Haley and helped pick Dorsey.

I trust Greg Williams will bring the best out in these players the rest of the year, and the Kitchens will continue to improve as a playcaller. Jimmy can't afford to screw up picking the wrong coach again.

I think Dorsey will make us competitive eventually, but next year we still might be too young to compete. Hopefully that's not the case. I do however, not want to hear the excuse from everyone  on the board that we're a "younger team" in 2020 if we're 2-6 mid season. We can't afford to have two more seasons under .500. The future head coach selected is going to be incredibly important. Because if they don't know what they're doing, like Hue, then we're doomed. If we get it right, then we could very well be in the playoffs in 2020 or 2021.

I can't afford to see us go 0-16 or 1-15 again though. Jimmy will have to bring in some key free agents by 2020, otherwise i'll think he's still a cheap owner doing "moneyball", hoping to strike it rich.

  • Think we will get a few free agents next year.  Everybody sees us this year.  Plus our draft picks next year.  We are a different team than the browns of past 15 years.

  • I will add 2 things: this team is not quitting on this year... and is also getting somewhat healthy.

But of course, next year there is some legitimate expectations for our squad.
