Good it's about time, his numbers say it all.

Hopefully the third time is the charm.

Long overdue, imho. GOOD ! Hope he gets in.

He excelled in every defense he was asked to play in.. Had he been in LA or NY.. He'd be voted in already... Make it happen HOF committee!

I think, correct me if I am wrong, that they are limited to actually electing 4 of the above. There will also be Senior category nominees, and Contributor category nominees.

If it is held to 4 max, there is not a lot of room for Clay as I think that newcomers Gonzales, Reed, and Champ Bailey will likely be first time winners.

That leaves maybe on spot for the other 22 guys on this list.

And Don Coryell....11 times a semifinalist? They may go for him.

Correct me if I am wrong about that 4 number.

Also...I had thought that they had separated the categories into "Coaches and Contributors". Instead it seems that they are still lumping the coaches in with the players. (contributors I guess are commissioners, owners, GMs.)

If he had just sacked Elway during "The Drive" he may have already been in.

You are correct. . .

The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s current bylaws stipulate that between four and eight new members will be selected each year. No more than five Modern-Era Finalists can be elected in a given year. Therefore, a class of six, seven, or eight can only be achieved if one or more of the Contributor and Senior Finalists are elected.

Tom Flores? WTF next, Mark Malone? Tom.Flores? Who even nominates a dud like him?

I'm still waiting for Blanton Collier to be in the HOF. Should have been long ago.

Two-time Super Bowl winning champion. Plus I think he lost one so he was in it three times you have guys in it that didn’t win a single Super Bowl

He reminds me of a homo. Sorry, but the guy is a lightweight. Didn't he inherit Madden's great team? He had sissy hair. If I was on the HOF committee, it would be a lot tougher to get voted in.

Old timer I assume. Tony Gonzales and Ed Reed are about mortal locks to get in on the first ballot, so that leaves at most three spots for any other "modern" player to get in.

I wonder how Al liked it? A coffee fetcher with super bowl rings. Unique?

Congratulations and I think he deserves to be in.

Do you when the last time someone stopped the Buffalo Bills from cake-walking the AFC in the post season?

Clay Matthews intercepted Jim Kelly at the goal line to preserve the win in a game I was lucky enough to attend from Rochester, NY at the time (which included getting there in spite of snow storm).

When Joe DeLamielleure (6 time Pro Bowl OG) was asked at a Rochester Browns Backers Banquet who was the toughest defensive player he ever faced - without hesitation he replied Clay Mathews. He called Clay Matthews "the toughest SOB I've ever faced." He reminded the crowd in attendance that Matthews played all 4 different LBer positions due to injuries and he excelled at every one of them.

I think it's more than a coincidence that our first round of Ozzie Newsome and Clay Matthews in 1978 was a big reason this team frequented the playoffs in the 80s more so than any other decade since the 50s. Both guys had long careers here with a sustained level of excellence this team really needed from them. It doesn't seem right that only 1 of them is in the Hall of Fame. Today, when we get a good player here - we're lucky if they're still here playing at a high level 4-5 years later... Even back then we were lucky to keep quality help much longer than 4-5 years. Joe Thomas was an exception to the rule giving us 10 consecutive years of Pro Bowls at LT and he's going to be a 1st ballot HOF selection.

Sorry to some of the young fans around here, but you will see your time..But for some of us, We have had our good days!!

https://dawgpounddaily.com/2018/11/22/cleveland-browns-clay-matthews-jr-pro-football-hall-of-fame/ Fix your HOF committee..Than put Clay Matthews Jr in your Halls.. at 1:51 that would be one gumby in the white #57 Clay Matthews jersey..A time never forgotten..

While he played 19 years and is 3rd on the all-time tackles list. He only made 4 pro bowls and was never first team all-pro. ( 1 second team all-pro)

Like most have said , he would be in already had he played for championship teams.
