The Browns Board

Let's scratch the Saquon part of the deal- because that's not happening, no way no how. Yanking your chain Po.  Let's see what (if the latest hot rumor comes to pass) how much the Bills have to give up to get Antonio Brown. That's pretty much going to set the market. If you think OBJ is worth a lot more, you'd be wong. Maybe a little more, because he's younger. But the Giants are going to want top dollar for him- they don't have to trade him- and we can just as easily draft one of the top WRs that's going to be there in the second round- at a way cheaper price. We don't absolutely need OBJ either.  Dorsey drafted Tyreek Hill, in case you forgot.

Yeah, I know we don't need him. I'd be happy with DK Metcalf but the chemistry with Landry and Baker would be amazing.

You think Metcalf is worth trading UP for? Browns have traded back and aquired picks for as long as I can remember. Not too much trading up, especially in the higher rounds.. he would have to fall considerably for it to happen, I think

Njoku is the best trade-up pick I would imagine, by a long margin. And Callaway, who the Browns traded up with the Patriots for ??

  • Our QB got hit like 9 times in the last 8 games or something like that.  Not sacked, HIT.  (I could be wrong on this stat, but I don't think so)

If you have a stat like that, you don't have salary cap problems, and you want to run the ball...YOU DON'T TRADE AWAY ONE OF THE BEST OL IN FOOTBALL.

You also don't use damn near a first rounder on a guy like Corbett to have him sit on the bench for a second season in a row.

Now, you might be right jiggins, but Corbett was taking someone's job this coming season.

Earned or by "see what we have approach"...?

As history has shown, the latter tends to fail.

  • Zeitler is without doubt a fine guard, but a few things I see as not yet answered...

-I see "pass blocking grades" on Zeitler...what are his "run blocking grades"?

-How much of a positive impact on pass blocking grades is Baker's quick release, ability to extend plays, pre-snap reads & seeing field. In other words, what may Zeitler's grade have been with less than stellar QB play & what may Corbett's benefit by Baker's anticipated/continued stellar play?

-New OL Coach Campen. To what extent has his input & film study determined readiness of Corbett & viability of the trade?

I'm certainly not hitting the panic button re the loss of Zeitler. It may not be as big a negative impact as some see.

I have no idea if he will have earned a starting spot, but most GMs aren't going to let a high draft pick of theirs sit. Isn't a real good look for them.

Exactly , Dorsey is gonna play his hand picked players especially high 2nd round picks. He knew he had a stockpile of guards and that would play into the movement to build up a weakness

  • I'm tellin' ya I think Dorsey has his eye on Erik McCoy, a pulling Guard with power, athletic ability and speed (tops for OL in the combine) disguised as a Center in college. Every spring they played him at guard, but they could never find anyone good enough to replace him at Center when the season rolled around. Smart enough to graduate in 3 1/2 years last Dec. too and come out a year early as a RS Junior. There was a reason A&M had the league leading RB last season. If we don't move up in the 1st for a ILB, then I hope we do so in the 2nd for McCoy. He will be gone by the time we pick in the 2nd. He had too good a Senior Bowl week and too good a combine to last that far into the 2nd. And now we have a need.

Ya know, this is a tough one.  I honestly thought we drafted Corbett to be Tretter's replacement, but the problem with THAT is Tretter has absolutely balled out on people, and he's much more affordable.  Additionally, you don't want to change your new QB's center in just his second year, so the plan to move Corbett to Center (if there ever was one) was nixed, and this made Zeitler trade bait.  I have to say, I was pretty pissed at first.  You simply don't muck with the OL when you don't HAVE TO, but....BUT....we needed a pash rusher, and we needed one BADLY.  I love Ogbah as a person, but he didn't cut the mustard.  We desperately needed a viable pass rusher opposite Myles, and now we have it.  Now, we just have to hope Corbett can play!  LOL

Honestly and put more simply, pass rush is the 2nd most important thing in the NFL outside of a franchise QB. Zeitler was elite, but Vernon provides as you've noted a much needed upgrade at a more vital position.

I think maybe we're focused too much on Corbett as well. T.J. Lang for example would fit in nicely here who just got released, and we interviewed several OL candidates at the combine. Dorsey has been strong in making moves so he has a card to play, that's for sure.

Lang will be 32 this year, coming off a neck injury, and may retire. He'd be no more than a stopgap- and would cost plenty. We're committed to Corbett, and probably will draft a OG in the lower rounds.

Or a center, since a lot of people thought that was where Corbett was going to be groomed to go...

  • i for one believe Dorsey can evaluate talent he has all ready proven that so I would Fucking believe that Corbett will be just fine

  • gotta a weird question on Corbett.. JD announced Corbett as a Tackle when drafted..if JD announces Corbett as a Guard, even though slotted, the contract dollars are less? imho,Corbett never had the hand punch nor arm length to ever play Tackle..

Are the positions predetermined by the NFL? If not, why not draft everyone as a punter?

i would think they were negotiated between players union? agents? vs. Nfl ? am remembering before contract slotting the draft picks, that tackles got paid more than guards/centers..could also be another reason they went to slotting not by position? but i still think the Tackle overall pot is higher than Guard/Center pot? am off to spottrac & i may need some medical pot ? to figure this out ?

competition committee..all is forgiven.JD's still a genius.Corbett was the 3rd Guard announced off the board..14 Tackles went totaling 53M..13 Guards went (slotted higher) totaling 82M..9 Centers totaling 39M..

I thought as far as OL is concerned- that only matters in FA.  IIRC, all OL is considered as one when you tag a player.

Nope, Quentin Nelson was definitely drafted as a guard- and at #6 overall, gets more money on his rookie deal than any tackle drafted below him. If someone pulled an Al Davis and drafted a kicker like Janikowski in the first round- hed get paid like a first round pick.

I'm absolutely ecstatic about having another pass rusher. Some analysts have called Vernon "good, not great", and that may be true, but the addition of Vernon makes HIM better AND Garrett better. Not to mention the talent we have at DT now. I mean, Jesus. That's probably a top 5 defensive line in the league.
