Another aside, are non-religious people adhering to a system where you get endless cosmic forgiveness for vile behavior just for asking a deity? Not bashing religion but it appears that statistically there are more religious than not and horrid things happen even within churches. Faith doesn’t appear to be a cause for or against acting like a good person.

Not to turn this into a religion thread but of course you don't have to be a church-goer to be honest. Still under the basic umbrella of any religious people I know there's the idea that honesty and Truth are valuable and I would assume that the pastor's preach that from the pulpit. Furthermore anyone who claims to be a Christian and actively cheats steals or lies is acting against the teachings of that religion it should be called out as a hypocrite.

I don't mean this as a pat on the back for those who just blindly hate religious folks either.

Oh I didn’t take it as a rah-rah for or against religion. I just see far more people claiming faith than not yet we still have tons of shitty behavior going on. That doesn’t mean all religion is bad either. I work with churches every Christmas on Operation Christmas Child. I like what some churches do for their communities and help out. They know where I stand and just like the heathen pitching in haha.

Your point is well-taken. It's true - I've said for years - that religion is one of the worst things that ever happened to Christianity.

I've always felt closer to God out in the wild - woods...outdoors than in any church. I've also been known to say years ago, when criticized by a few religious zealots in our Bible study group - that I should go to church all the time. I said I go once in a while, it's a nice place to visit - unless there's other people there. lol That usually shuts them up, or they laugh, depending on how well they knew me.

I believe Phil Robertson is the same way. One religious friend said to me once - "I would think a Christian would want to go to church where God is".

And I looked at her, and said "the Bible says 'Lo, I am with you always'. Even when I'm fishing or squirrel hunting." I got a critical smirk and a laugh at the same time, priceless.

Considering that way back in the day after I got out of the AF, my friends went to church all the time, so I started going.

After three angry church splits, I gave up, and they did too.

Anyways, there are plenty of people in churches who would game the system. One gal, with two young boys, unmarried, went to church all the time. A friend and I fixed her old car twice. Then some ladies of the church showed up as we said the car was done, and brought them some stuff. Her boys went to church in scrubby clothes, she was destitute, the church helped her with bills...

and we found out that she had a very nice stereo, a big screen tv, a real nice couch...and her boys were eating sugar bomb cereal and there was nothing else in the fridge, and cigarette butts all over the place in ashtrays.

Yep, she left the church and went somewhere else. Section eight free housing, free hc....

          religous. not Christian.

             Whatver. Sorry, Steve. lol

I am good with having a rational conversation about the whole thing but I get where Steve may not want a religion thread because historically those go nowhere on here.

That said, I live in the land of Medicaid abuse and where gaming the system is king. Kids under the age of 18 only make up 12% of the population. So the bulk of medicaid is working age adults. It is a mess.

            • Over 564,000 people in West Virginia are covered by Medicaid (29% of the population), making West Virginia the state with the highest share of its population enrolled in Medicaid.
            • Three-fourths (74%) of enrollees are children and adult

Wait, I thought you had to be 65 before you can get medicaid? lol. I had to....

The fraud is everywhere. When my Wife was teaching - they had a school psychologist who often had to determine if a student was FAKING being special education classed, so they could skate through hs, and ***get social security*** right after they graduate.

              For life, I suppose.

Medicare is for older folks. Medicaid you can be both. In WV, you turn 18 and all of a sudden develop a terrible case of mysterious back ache or a untreatable case of anxiety that requires a social security check and some Medicaid coverage.

its just greed born from our system of capitslism. Why cant we just for once pin the tail on the right fucking donkey? think of that fraud and how it drains the pool. We're constantly told how social programs like medicare and social security are doomed and were always destined to fail. But then u read how filthy politicians get bribed by specisl interests to.funnel money their way so they raid programs like SS and medicare.

im not a fan of gore but his "lock box" idea was spot on the money and he got mocked by filthy politicians on both sides who didnt want their slush funds for their own projects getting locked up.

There is nothing inherent in either of the two systems that requires any more or less checks and balances against fraud. Fraud is fraud. I can sell you a product for as much money as you are willing to pay for it but even in a capitalistic Society if I misrepresent that product I'm breaking the rules and subject to prosecution.

As a matter of fact it would be my guess that it's more prevalent in socialism because if, hahaha, everyone is supposed to be equal we know from human nature that nobody wants to. And capitalism it's perfectly okay for one guy to be a millionaire and one guy have a thousand bucks in the bank.
