Who has been let go to make room?

Maybe this can be morphed into a Browns Practice Squad thread.

When was the deadline for teams to claim cut players off waivers?

  • Some explanation.....perhaps someone can come up with better info:

In short, a player who gets cut and has less than four years of service time is placed on waivers. All 31 other teams can place a claim on the player and add him to their 53-man roster. If the player goes unclaimed through waivers, they are free to sign with any team as an unrestricted free agent. The waiver wire order is identical to the 2019 NFL Draft order, so the Browns will have the 17th claim on any cuts that take place. Teams with the worse records own the highest waiver claim priority. E.G. The New York Jets have the third overall claim spot.

Will provide a more detailed explanation of the practice squad later, but for now, know that teams can sign up to 10 players to a practice squad that doesn’t count against the 53-man roster. These 10 players are typically young NFL players with little experience. In order to get to the practice squad, a player must clear waivers. After he clears waivers, he becomes a free agent, and then can sign with the practice squad.

Note that players on the practice squad can be signed by any other team at any time. The only catch is that the team that signs him will have to keep him on their active roster for at least three weeks and guarantee his pay during that time.

Teams can start to form their practice squad after 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, September 1.

  • Looks like we signed TE Stephen Carlson to the practice squad.

  • Jefferson looks like a high upside guy who has had a rough start to his NFL career. Probably came out of college early. Intriguing.

Don't know fuck all about Jones.

KhaDarel Hodge was a surprising cut as he had (apparently) a hell of a preseason for the Rams.

Anyone know who is cut to make room for these three?

Jefferson was considered the best player in Texas the year he signed with UT-Austin.

Seals-Jones was too the year he signed with A&M the year before that.

  • Add Willie Wright G to the practice squad

  • Seals-Jones played at Arizona when Freddie was there. I thought there was some connection somewhere that would have him picked up by the Browns. Freddie must have had input to Dorsey on this one.

  • DeShone Kizer lost to some UDFA named Tim Boyle for the Packers' backup job.. You may remember Tim Boyle as the runner-up to magician Shin Lim in this past year's America's Got Talent competition as a singer.

Jachai Polite was a 3rd rounder just a few months ago - and got cut by the Jets.

    Surprised again he cleared waivers.

  • Burris and Coley waived.  Coley on practice squad. I imagine Burris will be as well. Drew Forbes to the IR.

DT Coley, S Burris were cut and OL Forbes was placed on IR to make room.  Someone posted Coley got signed to the practice squad shortly thereafter and Forbes is on the IR List where he can return some time around mid season.

Sounds like we only lost 1 guy in all that.

Lucky for him, Austin Corbett has no intentions of opening up his playbook again this year. I'm guessing he can just barrow that one...
