WEEK 5 - BROWNS an early +3 underdog and the O/U is 47 on MNF in SF........now +5
-
-
The 9ers might be sneaky good... especially with Jimmy G getting his shit together after a dismal Week 1 showing.
Week 1 in SF they beat a TB team that had not yet gelled.
Week 2 they drummed the Bagels in Cinci...
Week 3 in SF they edged the Benless Steelers by jumping out to an early lead and then hanging on.
Week 4.... they relaxed until they saw us wake up in BLT.
They may not have our "star power", but SF is a well-coached, solid, young team on the rise.
This is going to be a tough game... maybe the first in rivalry that will blossom in the 2020's...

Their Dline is talented, deep and legit. One of their better corners is out. If the Oline plays like they did against Ravens we will score.
on offense- it’s a shanny offense you will see creative scheme- they’ve run the ball well and they employ dink and dunk with quick WRs and Kittle their TE. Jimmy G looked awful throughout Preseason- they have dumbed the offense down a bit. If the Browns play this off coverage stuff the Niners will eat us alive. They have a weakness at a tackle spot that Garrett should feast upon.
ill take 3 points all day

I don't see how you can have a rivalry with a team that is 2500 miles away and which you meet only once every 4 years.....unless they meet head to head in several league championship games. But...if that happens, alrighty then, its a rivalry.

I think this is a taller task for the Niners-
which Browns offense do they prepare for The one we had against the Ravens or the first couple weeks? We’ve shown some many darn looks

Chargers (-14.5) at Dolphins, 30-10
Seahawks (-5.5) at Cardinals, 27-10
Giants (-3) vs. Redskins, 24-3- The Cleveland Browns (+7, ML +280) hit the road for a key AFC North battle against the Baltimore Ravens, and their struggling offense finally hit its stride. The Browns entered the day with 49 points scored through three games, or 16.3 PPG, but they erupted for 40 in this one to help the books immensely. The Browns are now 0-2 SU/ATS in two games at home and 2-0 SU/ATS in two games on the road.
Cleveland posted 193 rushing yards, 337 passing yards and 22 first downs with no fumbles lost and just one interception. The lack of turnovers was key in their road win, and they at least cut their penalties down to a manageable six for 41 yards. Cleveland's red-zone efficiency was a solid 4-for-5, something they could have used more help with against the Rams last Sunday night. -
WEEK 5 - BROWNS an early +3 underdog and the O/U is 47 on MNF in SF. This game originally opened last week at CLE + 4 1/2 but today's game no doubt
influenced that.
Also Baltimore -3 in Pittsburgh -and- Arizona +4 1/2 in Cincinnati
Oh and the upcoming game:
The Browns won their first appearance on Monday night against the Jets back in Week 2, now they get another shot under the lights in San Francisco. The 49ers are coming off a bye, so they'll be fairly healthy and well-rested, and they get an extra day with the MNF game. That's the first-place 49ers against the first-place Browns. Is this an alternate universe? The Browns are 4-0 ATS in the past four on the road, while the 49ers are 26-7 ATS in the past 33 on MNF. Something's gotta give. Well, the Niners are also 0-6 ATS in the past six following a bye.

Hey all. Niner fan here.
No worries, no smack talk, just wanted to give as un-homerish a scouting report as possible as I see a few incorrect things in these two posts.
1) RE Bucs game: You could say that the Bucs hadn't gelled yet, but at the same time it was Garoppolos first game back after an ACL. He played poorly in one preseason game but actually played very well in his second preseason game. He was off all day vs the Bucs though. behind recievers, a WTF pass that ended up a pick 6, it wasn't his best day. Clearly rusty. Should be boted tho that the Niner pass rush is real. They were in Winstons face all day, intercepted him 3 times, but they dropped two more INTs that were in their hands. Bosa, Buckner, Armstead and Ford have been fantastic. Niners also had THREE TDs called back on penalty, two of which were Garoppolo TDs to Kittle and both were sketchy penalties at best.
2) RE Bengals Game: Yeah, they beat the doors off the Bengals. It was 41-17, but it wasn't that close. Bengals scored a late long TD to John Ross against backups. Niners put up almost 600 yards of offense, including over 250 rushing.
3) RE Steelers Game: "Week 3 in SF they edged the Benless Steelers by jumping out to an early lead and then hanging on."
uh....no. You got that exactly backwards. The 49ers were beating the doors off the Steelers, but kept turning the ball over. they fumbled 3 times inside the Steelers 15 and Garoppolo threw two INTs, one of which bounced right off the RB hands on a screen and into the air. The score at halftime was 6-3 Steelers even thought the 49ers had nearly three times the Steelers yardage. The second half was back and forth with the Steelers hiting on long catch and run and then burning Jason Verrett who hadn't played in 2 years for another TD. Without those two plays, Rudolph was horrible. The 49ers generated 22 hurries on 27 passes. Nick Bosa got 7 on his own. The 49ers won a game in which they turned the ball over FIVE times, 3 of which were completely unforced.
This isn't to say that the 49ers are word beaters. They are however, better than they are getting credit for.
Strengths: The D-Line has been superb this year. Consistent pressure rushing only 4 all year. Their LBs, Alexander and Warner in particular, have been fantastic. Fast, Good in coverage, and in Alexanders case, all over the field. 49ers D is currently ranked #3 in the NFL in yards, 5th against the run and 6th against the pass. On Offense, they are ranked 4th in the league, 2nd in rushing and 17th in passing.
Kittle is their best weapon in passing game, but rookie Deebo Samuel is starting to take off and rookie Jalen Hurd will get his first game action on Monday.
Breida and Mostert are on pace to both run for 1000 yards and average over 5 yards per carry. Wilson has 4 TDs as a short yardage back, and Tevin Coleman is returning this week from injury.
The 49ers have run more play action than any team in the NFL and that's the halmark of Kyle Shanahan (as many of you already know having his as an OC). He is also getting the ball out FAST (Garoppolo 3rd in NFL in time from snap to release).
Weaknesses: Lest you think I'm just pumping them up, there are concerns. Joe Staley is out for another month or so and rookie 6th round LT Justin Skule is replacing him. The thought of Skule on Garrett terrifies me. LOL. In truth, they will scheme to protect him and he was mostly a non-factor against Pitt, but the Steelers don't have Garrett.
Going into the season DB was a big concern. Less so now, but there are concerns. Sherman looks like the Sherman of old. FS Tarvarius Moore flashes at times, but is VERY young and has taken some very poor angles (one of which led to long catch and run TD by the Steelers). Jimmie Ward looks like he might be back to play FS, but that guy has never been able to avoid injury. We'll see.
Ahkello Witherspoon has been fantastic. 3rd year guy CLEARLY having his best year as a pro. Unfortunately, he hurt his foot so he won't play for over a month. In his stead, they put in Jason Verrett who was a Pro Bowler with the Chargers pre-achilles and a host of other injuries, and he proceeded to give up a long PI and then a long TD on consecutive plays. They took him off the field. No idea if he plays on Monday. They have another rookie (Moseley) who will likely get the start.
Overall, the 49ers seem so far to be doing what good teams do: They are beating teams they are supposed to beat. Monday will be a different animal.
Should be fun guys. I'll be in the building. Looking forward to it.
Peace.
EDIT: Oh, 2 more things. 1) They have NOT dumbed down the offense for him. That's actually kinda funny. The offense is wide open. 2) I read someone somewhere say they were dinking and dunking all over the place. He is actually averaging 8.8 yards per attempt, which would be 3rd in the NFL behind Mahomes and Dak. He is not a deep ball thrower, but he consistently throws in the 15-25 yard range.

15-25 is the Shanny zone... the man got the best of what Brian Hoyer had to give us out of him. ANd Hoyer of course was a fellow graduate of the NE/Brady school of PAP...
Are all SF fans as nice? (Rhetorical question because in my Houston area, Sports Bar days of the early 90's there were a couple completely obnoxious ones there every Sunday.)
You're correct in that I mischaracterized your Steeler win.... I was primarily watching the Texans that afternoon, but looked in on PTG every break. I was actually surprised that they did so well against you and that you failed to cover the spread.
But the gelling? Can't yield on that point. You did not face the Bucs team that visited your state yesterday and outscored the Rams. I think the loss the prior week to the Giants focused them.

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to prop up the Bucs, tho that D was pretty stout in week 1, especially against the run.
My point was that the 49ers weren't hitting on all cylinders either. Garoppolo clearly rusty and missing open targets (and he's been MUCH better last 2 weeks). They were also playing in 95 degree heat with crazy humidity and it started to show in the Buc run game late. They started getting push against a gassed Niners D-Line. Despite all that, if not for a few questionable holding calls (which seemed to be league-wide) they'd have beaten the Bucs by 20 or more. They had 4 TDs called back in the first 2 weeks of the season.
Bottom line on Niners, they are 3-0 and actually haven't played all that well yet. Garoppolo was all over the place in week one and they had some serious butterfingers in week 3. They still make unforced errors that one would hope they get better with as the season progresses.
As for nice Niner fans? Can't speak for them all, but typically fanbases that see their teams be really good for extended periods of time tend to skew a-hole pretty hard. Outside of 3 Harbaugh years, Niners have sucked hard for the past two decades. Weened alot of those guys out. LOL.

It is Hard to put stock in Team Stat Rankings the first 4/5 games of the year. When we get further along and each team inevitably faces stiffer defenses or more potent offenses the numbers tend to average out.
I respect the Niners but Mayfield will be the most dangerous (no pun intended) QB the Niners have faced and just happens to have the best weapons of the teams that the Niners have played. And arguably the biggest mismatch of the game Garrett vs whomever is in the Browns favor. OBJ is a problem for the Niners unless Richard Sherman from the Legion of Doom shows up- you go down the line and the matchups look worse. The Niners have arguably their best performing corner out. They will play soft to not give up chunk plays and I expect YAC yardage from the Browns next Monday.
The Niners have the homefield but by some accounts the Browns will travel well there and they have had the luxury of playing 2 other primetime games.
I don’t think the Niners can just clean up their act and not turn the ball over and they win and that’s what i hear from some Niner faithful. They will have some matchups that they have to gameplan around.
It ain’t all bad for the Niners Watching the Niners this year and knowing Shanny the Browns need to be very disciplined with the run D. The key is getting Obi and Richardson crashing the line and getting Niner backs going east or west right way on the zone read and then getting the backers in to clean up the lateral run. Thankfully we are in the mode having played the Ravens last week. It’s a different mode as the Ravens can hit you hard off center or guard. If we aren’t beat up too badly from it we should fair pretty well considering both offenses will require Browns front 7 to be discipline and not reckless with their attack on the LOS. I still expect the Niners to run the ball though
Lastly, the Browns need Ward or Greedy back. The Niners have some targets and they execute the short intermediate pass game very well. Kittle is also a huge issue thankfully Randall is back and maybe we deploy our Rookie on him as well. We will have problems with Kittle and the others if play this soft zone garbage.
Niner Fan any tips for Browns fans going to the game?

Niner Fan any tips for Browns fans going to the game?
A lot to unpack there.
1) Totally agree that he is the most dangerous QB they will have faced so far and that the skill positions will be the best they have seen.
2) Agree that Garrett vs Skule and however else they choose to address that will be the biggest mismatch on the field. That's my biggest concern. Thats what happens when you lose your swing tackle in the first quarter of a preseason game for the year and your Pro Bowl LT in week 3. Ouch. Its always those times when you lose multiple guys at the same position that kill you.
3) DBs....possibly. Its true that Witherspoon is out and I don't trust Tarvarius Moore, but Jimmie Ward is a player when he's healthy, I like JD Reid, and the Niners seem to love Emmanuel Moseley...tho I have no idea why. LOL. Sherman looks like teh old Sherman, now over a year removed from the Achilles. Still, certainly alot more star power at WR for the Browns than in the Secondary for the 49ers.
I think you are leaving out a big piece here tho....49ers Pass Rush. Bosa has been a monster. He has 17 pressures through three games....which is the same as Garrett. Difference being he's been gimping around on a sore ankle and he hasn't been able to finish those plays with Sacks. Yet. He is more healthy now though, so should be fun. What he did to the LT of the Steelers (Alejandro Villanueva) should be illegal. LOL.
Mind you...that's just Bosa. That's not Dee Ford or DeForest Buckner.
4) Not sure more Primetime Games is really an advantage.
5) I don't think they can just clean it up either in terms of holding on to the ball...but should be noted they had a combined 3 turnovers in week 1 and 2. Week 3 seems more of an oddity than a trend...especially since so many of the turnovers were unforced.
6) Ravens...OK, don't take this as me trying to devalue a team you beat and looked great until 2 weeks ago. I am not impressed with the Ravens or Lamar Jackson. The reason though has nothing to do with the Ravens/Browns game. It has everything to do with the Harbaugh Brothers, Greg Roman, and that offensive scheme.
I saw that offense. Greg Roman was the 49ers OC with Colin Kaepernick. Is Lamar better than Kap? Maybe...but its the same damn offense that gets regurgitated and everyone calls it "new" and "unprecedented". Its an outstanding power run game with defined looks for the QB with a ton of play action. Hell, the 49ers took it to the Super Bowl in 2012. Its been figured out. It will work here and there and against lesser opponents, but that O and Lamar Jackson are short for the NFL landscape. Trust me. I've seen it. Recently. They are getting exposed now just as I suspected.
The 49ers began to recognize that fact and that's when they tried to make Kap a pocket passer...and he's just not. Same will happen to Lamar.
7) Advice? I'm guessing you might already have yer tix by now but try to get seats on the Niners sideline (Suite Tower side). If you don't, you'll be blinded by the sun on the visitor side until the sun drops behind the tower. Its West Coast time, so sun will still be out for most of the first half.
Niner fans have gotten a bad reputation for being a-holes at games, but alot of that "element" was priced out of the building when they moved to Levis. Stadium will probably have alot of empty seats at kickoff because the early start is right in the middle of rush hour. The stadium is flanked on all sides by big tech companies (one of which I work for and walk to the game from work) so getting in and out on a week night can be a challenge.
If you have any specific questions, let me know. Looking forward to the game.

LOL.

Yep tickets bought endzone south end corner browns side. Thanks for the advice! We have some aholes too. Not too worried about it as I am with a few Niner fans. I was told the other endzone is Dawg Pound West - the Backers club in the Bay Area bought out the tickets.
I didn’t intentionally forget your dline. We will most certainly have our work cut out for us. Many of us have watched Nick Bosa at OSU- I believe you have the better Bosa and we will need to account for him at all times. The key could be our Oline buying some time forcing you guys to send Backers and singling up our targets on the outside. Outside of Sherman I’m not terribly familiar with the other names Verrett is off his 2nd or 3rd year end injury. Browns are deep and dangerous and if Landry clears and Higgins is back someone will get open in the group. Our Line has taken a lot of heat- some Browns fans want to replace the most of the unit others see most of the issues on play calls and Baker spending the first couple weeks hanging onto the ball or running out of clean pockets. They aren’t bad IMO and they played well last week.
Im harsh on our rebuilt secondary if Ward or Greedy can’t go and we protect the backups by playing off coverage - we are toast unless Myles and Co get to Jimmy often.
Playing a third prime time game in 5 weeks has to be a positive for a young team like the Browns- you could tell in the Jets game we were a little too amped up.
Now about those Ravens... The only thing I’ll say about the Ravens. They are a challenge for 60 minutes. Your D has to change its mindset with Lamar floating all around the pocket. It’s is a gimmick offense that can hold the ball for 35-40 minutes and keep your offense off the field. I thought they had a horrible game plan against the Browns but seeing Lamar now 2 and half games helped the Browns defend him. The Niners will score on them but they will move the chains on your D.

Ya...South endzone sun will be behind you for the most part. Might have it on yer left for a bit, but won't be in your eyes. I'll be on Niner side second deck looking down the south goal line, so not too far away.
Jimmy has been really good at getting the ball out quickly, so hopefully Garrett doesn't completely destroy them. My guess is the FB and TEs will chip quite a bit and you'll see a ton of play action which hopefully slows them down.
Steelers got a lot of pressure, but they blitzed like every other down.
I wouldn't count on the 49ers sending too many blitzes unless they see something specific. They haven't blitzed much all year. Instead they've gotten pressure with 4 and dropped 7.
I figured Bosa wasn't much of a mystery in the state of Ohio, but he's been better than advertised even if the sack numbers haven't shown it. Its pretty clear too that his ankle has gotten better and better from week to week and this week off has helped.
Man. Can't wait. Early bye weeks suck (with exception of getting injuries healed). LOL.

While I know I've been shown data that it's not a factor, I still "fear" traveling to the PT zone from the ET zone...
Anyone know our departure date?

Feels like we've had more primetime games this season than we've had combined since '99...
