  • Those Nationals/Expos were one of the many expansion teams that began operations in the late 60s that had never won a title.  They along with the Blues, and the Cavs finally broke through.  There are still like 9 other teams that began in that era that have still not yet won.

  • As noted in prior renditions of this thread.....two of our Cleveland teams are in the "bottom 10"   on this list.

Only Buffalo...and Atlanta  other than Cleveland has two teams that have not won since 1970. Atlanta can count here because the Hawks moved there sometime in the mid 60s...around the same time the Falcons originated.

(though it appears that the Phoenix area does, but it doesn't...the Cardinals did not move to Phoenix until 1988).

It also appears that LA has two as well....Clippers/Chargers.   But, again, those team moved into LA much later.

  • And, oh, yes, of course, we must mention the "close calls' that some of these long waiting teams have had.

I don't have to remind you all of the Tribe's two  extra inning 7th game losses in the WS.

Cardinals lost the Super Bowl on about the last play.

Texas Rangers were one strike away from winning it all.

Oilers/Titans were one foot short....of at least sending their Super Bowl into OT.

Bills:   see Scot Norwood, Wide Right.

Bengals.....what really should be known as "The Drive"......Montana's comeback in the Super Bowl.

Falcons...choking like dogs with like a 24 point lead in the Super Bowl.

Vancouver had a 3-2 game lead in Stanley Cup Final...and blew it.

Imagine if a lot of these games/series had gone the other way.

  • Technically, I may have the following franchise in the wrong place:

2008....Oklahoma City Thunder, no title YO

At one point, I think the NBA was saying that they considered the OK city team a new franchise when it was relocated from Seattle,    but, now, apparently they are just saying that the Thunder are simply a continuation of the Sonics franchise, that has been in existance since 1967.  The Sonics won the NBA title in 1979.....so perhaps, in the future, I will have to amend this to put that team's title drought to go back to that date.

  • Notice also that among the  10 franchises that have been waiting the longest  Three of them are the three NFL teams that sit on or border Lake Erie:  Buffalo on the East, Cleveland in the center, and Detroit on the west.

Some day, Lake Erie is going to rule the NFL..... when, I don't know.
