Tonight, the NFL will reveal  which  OL and TEs will make the All Time 100 team.  Here is the breakdown as I understand it:

    7  OTs

    7 OGs

    4 OCs

    4-5 TEs

Make your prediction.  (I will do mine is a subsequent post)

Possible  Browns candidates:    Lou Groza/Joe Thomas/Gene Hickerson/ Ozzie Newsome/Frank Gatskie/Mike MacCormack/Joe Delamelleure.  Dick Shafrath should be  (but won't because even though he is fully worth, he is not even in the HOF

        Not in the Top 100:

        OTs named:

Anthony Munoz;   Forrest Gregg; Art Shell; Roosevelt Brown;  Jonathan Ogden; Cal Hubbard; Walter Jones

        OGs named:

Jim Parker; John Hannah; Larry Allen; Gene Upshaw; Dan Fortman; Randall McDaniel; Bruce Mathews

        OCs name:

Mike Webster;  Dwight Stephenson; Jim Otto;  Mell Hein

        Coaches:

Halas,  Lambeau; Landry; Lombardi   (they had previously named some others in this category)

        Tight Ends named:

Mike Ditka; Tony Gonzales; Gronkowski; John Mackey;  Kellen Winslow

So:  No Groza or JT;  no Hickerson;  no Gatski;  no Shafrath;  no Ozzie.......no Browns at ALL

I thought Joe had a shot, but I really can't argue him in place of any of the OTs selected... even the geezers like Shell and Brown.

Lou Groza is Tricky. He may not be a Top 7 Tackle, and he may not be a Top 2 kicker ... but I think is a Top 100 Player.

            4-time NFL Champion, 9 Pro Bowls, 4 All-Pros, 1 League MVP.

Kickers weren't as accurate then, be he was as dependable as they came at the time, and as a Tackle he was a Mauler.

A real throwback football player and a champion ... best of the best.

Maybe the committee thought they had  met the Browns quota of "old timers"  when they gave us Marion Motley on the RB list.  And, like you said, Groza was a more all round player, and they wanted to deal in specialists .  (though they did put Bednarik in at LB...and he was a 2 way player.
