Blame Tex.  He is the one saying he was looking for a parade to join.

Good presser for Stef... not as authoritative as Rodgers' NYG intro, but a solid presser giving a sense that there's a backbone there.

Approach of essentially preparing formal lesson plans for each player is not one I've heard before.

Agree with h that it was refreshing to see a well-groomed HC at the podium... and I'll add that it was good to see a fit one as well.

This could come off as discriminatory.  But, OK.  What it implies is that unlike Ferd who has no apparent discipline in his personal habits and grooming, ....which seemed to also translate to his coaching duties,   this well groomed, disciplined guy will be the same  with his coaching.

Best part for me was the Truman quote: "It's amazing what you can accomplish when no one cares who gets the credit."

We could use a man like Harry Truman again.  (and I don't mean as Browns HC)

-“multiple” on offense.  I like it.  “Dynamic in the run game”. Yes!!! He has some tools to work with here

-also hinted at using the playmakers we have which something Kitchens failed at.

-his system and systems he’s been working under are very QB friendly.  Great!  Putting Baker in shotgun and making him a playmaker - not his game at the professional level.  Baker had some of his best games last season throwing 30 passes all game.

-my original criticism just one franchise one perspective for 14 years.  I’ve changed my mind I think it’s impressive that he’s held on and been with the same franchise through multiple regime changes. He’s left a good enough impression to be a holdover

good start...now show us all the Browns finally got this right

Freddie did say before the season and week after week during the season about using playmakers more getting them involved more.  Its very common that a coach says he's going to get the ball into his playmakers hands. Every coach will say it not every coach succeeds at it. I don't put a ton of stock in what these guys say in press conferences.  They are coached up on what to expect and say.  Outside of troll questions from grossi and mkc they get tossed meatballs.

Also Freddie hung on at one organization (cardinals) for 12 years under multiple regimes. So Freddie in turn left a good enough impression to be a holdover.

Stefanski was continuously promoted in Minnesota while Freddie was demoted from QB to RB coach  by Arians which is why he left to join the Browns.

I am sure that the real Paul DePodesta was not the roly poly character that was portrayed in the movies.   In fact, correct me if I am wrong....they didn't even use his real name in the film, although they used the real name of just about everyone else.

Ya, they called the guy in the movie Pete or something.  I don’t think Paul wanted anything to do with the movie.

Peter Brand... I never before made the time to look for the reason Paul did not let his name be used in the movie after letting it be used in the book. But now I did and found this...

"... to DePodesta, the former Athletics executive who now works in the Mets' front office, it was never his story. And the character that was supposed to be him always seemed like someone else. Which is why, for as much as the movie is based on a chapter of DePodesta's career, it's not about him at all.

Unlike Beane, the longtime Oakland general manager who is played by Brad Pitt, DePodesta isn't named in the movie. His character, played by Jonah Hill, was given the fictional name of Peter Brand—at DePodesta's request.

"I just could never get comfortable with the idea of somebody else portraying me to the rest of the world," DePodesta said. "It's very unnerving, and it was something that wasn't going to go away. That was always in my mind."

DePodesta's unease with the movie isn't a matter of shyness, though. And has nothing to do with Hill. Though the dough-faced actor looks nothing like him, DePodesta said Hill is "terrific" at his craft.

What makes DePodesta uncomfortable is the idea of being typecast as a laptop-toting, Ivy League nerd who eschews traditional scouting and relies only on statistics in making decisions."

Not everyone.  Sure, Kevin  made a favorable  first impression,  but plenty of  fans are adopting a  wait and see  attitude.  I'd rather do that instead of having  an Eyore attitude  that, yup, this new HC is gonna  suck.

Nor every time... Pretty sure we weren't all that optimistic when Hue was hired and nobody really knew what to think about Freddie as HC... OC maybe, but not HC.

We usually wait until after the draft to get irrationally optimistic... 😎

  • I remember when Kyle Shanahan sucked in these forums.  Do I think Freddie was a genius, nope. But not sure what coach overcomes a shit OL, inaccurate QB, WRs dropping passes, TEs getting hurt, DL swinging helmets, DBs with bad hamstrings, etc.. I don’t think Freddy was a great leader and that’s on him but again we turn to the same shitty front office and an unproven coach to tell us they got it right this time.  Until we fix the personnel issues and get the “me guys” to be “we guys” the Browns won’t be successful

Problem is some of what has come out about Freddie was that he was undisciplined, e.g., sloppy planning... calling plays that weren't practiced. And there's truth in old adage about teams taking on their HC's personality.

Largely the same cast of characters did pretty well under Williams previously with Freddie as OC.

And Carson palmer had his best season as a qb when Freddie was qb coach.  Then when he was "demoted" from qb to rb coach (they're all position coaches whether its db lbs dl wr te ol rb or qb coach I don't really see one as a significant step up over the other) a guy named David Johnson burst on the scene.

  • I'm sorry, I like this dude. Stefanski seems legit.

It seems strange to me that according to some, Freddie did actually use the analytics provided in setting up game plans and playcalling. He was always looking at his master sheet during games. So why exactly were they not practicing the plays on the master sheet? And if analytics was driving that, then why was Hunt not more involved in the redzone since in KC he thrived in the redzone? Surely analytics would have provided that information in setting up redzone playcalling.

And as an aside will the failure of Stefanski be the end of Depo should that happen? That seemed to be the case with buddy boy. I mean how else can we carry on this Factory of Sadness without another coaching/fo change two years from now??

  • I finally just watched Stefanski’s presser. There’s only so much you can glean from it, but l too really like him.

One goofy thing stood out to me. His whole “west side, east side” joke he cracked towards the beginning, which seemed to be a joke that thudded like a lead balloon, but next thing you know the next 5 or 6 reporters are announcing which side they hail from (even the guy from Canton “far south side”, haha). Almost as if they were compelled to play along just for the fun of playing along. And it got funnier as they did.

I call that charisma, and l like that in my coach.

    Both impressive pressers.

I think Stefanski is going to be just what the Dr. ordered.  I am also glad it appears most are starting to see the light on DePo and that he isn't a sinister figure sitting deep in the bowels of headquarters, pulling the strings.

This literally happens every. single. time. the Browns hire a head coach, or make a first round pick.

There's a moment where people think for themselves, but the sheep herd mentality is strong, and virtually everyone falls into line with the "Sunshine and Rainbows" mentality.

    Until the games start.

That’s what fans do silly. I don’t see what l have to gain by proactively getting bent outta shape about any of this when no games have been played yet. I’ll have plenty of time to get bet outta shape later...

  • point of information:

    https://dawgpounddaily.com/2020/01/14/cleveland-browns-news-brett-favre-has-strong-opinion-of-kevin-stefanski/

"While Favre's two-season stint with the Minnesota Vikings in 2009 and 2010 may have been short-lived, it coincided with Kevin Stefanski's rise as an assistant. In both years that Favre spent in Minnesota, Stefanski served as the team's assistant quarterbacks coach and suffice to say, the former Penn defensive back left quite an impression on the 3-time MVP."

"During the interview, Favre called Stefanski one of the "bright minds." The two worked together for two seasons in Minnesota and the young coach made an impression on Favre — who is a quarterback many compare to current Cleveland starter, Baker Mayfield."

Gee, you're  thinking  that too Ag? Why in the world would the analytics  guys reccomend  plays, Freddie  not practice  them, only to  use them in games? Talk about  crazy  dysfunction.

Guaranteed  if Stefanski flops, it's the end of DePodesta. And if they bring back Andrew  Berry,  draft another  Corey Coleman analytic bust, he's  fired faster than  you can  say  "Jimmy  Haslam ". 😁

This is a huge Philly area thing..While i was at the draft in Philly, Most the local's used this to separate the large city.. It struck me as real funny, once I heard his Mom & Dad were there at the presser.. Kevin was raised & went to Philly area schools all the way up to Penn U..,so my hope is, Kevin surely should have some piss & vinegar in his raising in a tough area like Philly.. He will need it, to mesh all these tudes in this lockerroom.. Coaching behind a no nonsense guy like Mike Zimmer can't hurt ?..

The whole east side vs. west side is a staple in a lotta towns. It is in Cincy. West Siyeeed! We claim LaRosas pizza. And Pete Rose.

What about Cleveland? Browns fandom is a family curse thing for me, but l’m not from therre.
