Browns Best seasons Since Merger

The Browns Board

  • The Browns are 9-4 so far.   This could shape up to be one of their best seasons since the beginning of Super Bowls in 1966.  Here are their best records since that time:

1969   10-3-1      The win pct. in all games was .714.....(won 10 of 14)  but if you factor out the tie,  the 10 wins/3 losses made them  .769.   If you count a tie as a half win/half loss, they would have a .750 win pct.

    1986   12-4     Win pct. of   .750

    1968   10-4   win pct.  of .714

    1972   10-4    win pct. of .714

    1980   11-5  win pct.  of .688

    1994   11-5  win pct. of  .688

1987   10-5  win pct. of  .666     (strike shortened year by 1 game)

    1988   10-6  win pct. of .625

2007   10-6  win pct. of  .625.   This is the ONLY year of those listed above in which they did not make the playoffs.

(and just a note,  the two years just prior to 1966 SB beginning, they had records as good or better than any since:

    1965  11-3  or .785

    1964  10-3-1...same as 1969...except they won 1964 title.

Prior to 1964 they had 10-12 years with records better than any since.   -0 losses once,  1 loss 4 times;  2 losses 4 times,  3 losses 3 times.

It would be nice to go 12-4 and match our best record in 55 years.

To bad they didn't win that NFL Game of the Year and they would have had a little wiggle room but a 3-0 finish will be difficult but not impossible.

It would be nice for us old boomer geezers to pull off a 12-4 season and make a mad run at the playoffs......yes playoffs.

we have a good chance....lets see what happens the last 3 games....in my opinion, it will depend on the d....the d will dictate if this will be one of the better seasons or not...so far butch davis' 9-7 team did the best...they made the only playoff appearance since the comeback...cannot argue that...can we better that...hopefully so...

That one really stung me. Knocking the Ravens out would have been the icing on a fun season. And making matters worse, the Ravens literally have the easiest remaining schedule of ANY team in the league. They have the Bengals and two other cream puffs. They will have NO trouble winning out.

We're coming off a WAR against Baltimore, and we're going to suffer an emotional letdown. It's IMPOSSIBLE not to, right? It's at New York, we're beat up, and I don't like this game AT ALL. I picked Browns to win 19-17, but I don't LIKE it.

On paper, this game isn't close. Giants are without their top 2 corners and another secondary player and are playing their backup QB (likely). Their OL is in shambles and they gave up 5 sacks to Hassan Reddick last week. 5! Vernon is absolutely on fire and Myles is feeling better. And don't forget about Clayborne, either. Colt won't want to hold the ball, and he'll get it out QUICKLY. We HAVE to tackle if we're going to win. They WILL throw it short and try to get YAC this game.

  • Browns fucked up their chance to have their best season since merger.   Now they are in danger of  repeating 2007.......a 10 win season with not playoffs.

Note here, the Browns tie their second..or third best record since the 1970 merger....behind only the  12-4 of 1986 and 10-4 of  1972 (though 11-5 and 10-4 are basically equal records)
