I think another tell tale sign Quinn locked it up is that after his night was over the went straight to Bartel. Funny how DA didn't get another shot.

Yep. That opening pass by BQ into the dirt in front of the feet of the receiver was great. 😳

As was DA's pass directly to a Titan's DB. 🙄

  • I think DA's stalled drive was the difference. It was a microcosm of things we've seen before.

He took a sack on a safety blitz, because he didn't read it pre-snap and had nowhere to go. Brady, on the other hand, was picking up blitzes all night pre-snap. Probably the best example of that was the throw to Cribbs on the hot read an instant before the blitzing safety hit him. Beautiful read and throw.

After DA's sack, the Browns were late getting to the line of scrimmage and a false start resulted. Now a promising drive turned into 2nd and 23 and after a couple plays that was it.

I know people want to downplay Quinn's command of the offense, but you can't. It's a big deal. A huge deal. It shows up the most in three vital areas: 1) Offensive tempo 2) Pre-snap reads 3) Two-minute offense. Quinn has shown his ability to do well in all three areas this pre-season. DA, on the other hand, has done quite well with tempo (especially when Daboll lets him throw the ball three/four times in a row) but he has struggled with the second and third areas.

For those of you who will argue about Quinn's sack against Detroit being a failed pre-snap read, it wasn't. He was sacked by the defensive end because of a missed blocking assignment. And against Green Bay, his hurried throw on the first possession was on a naked bootleg where it was designed for the DE to come free.

Regardless of what everyone thinks of DA, he's had a good preseason. Still, Quinn has had better tangible and intangible results. BQ is our starter, but we need a good backup and who's better than DA to do that? We're in good shape at the QB position.

Now about that running game . . .

  • WoW what an awsome night.

Both of our QB's played solid. I really think that Quinn is the starter now, and he should be rightfully so. It's his time and his chance to take the reigns for this team and this city. Anderson was a good QB for us in 2007, we all know the story about that year. Last year was painfully bad, he is not as bad as we were last year. He had his shot though and that's the thing. We know what we have in him, I reallly think he has hit his ceiling as a player. So it's time to move on and see what else we have here and I am looking forward to it.

James Davis...wooo boy. I know that he is just a rookie, but he shows that fight that makes you think he can break one every time he touches the ball. I really am starting to like this guy.

Mike Furrey is a stud, plain and simple. This guy is going to be a hero here is he keeps up the type of play and intensity that he has shown so far. It was also nice to see Braylon catch some balls ( with his hands too!!!)

We just beat a playoff caliber team, and that's refreshing. I know it's preseason and it's not always the #1's but you have to remember we throwing rookies in there and loads of subs, and everyone seems to be pulling together. I know I can't wait to see our defense in the regular season when they open it up fully. I hope it's scary.

    Go Browns 🙂

  • BQ should be named the starter.Has a better touch on the shorter pass.Reads defence better .Dosnt panic when being pressured like DA.

  • as much as some of you bq backers want this to be over..... I have a feeling its not.......

    True, but leaning towards Quinn.

I stepped out of the room, but did DA get a penalty for being to close to the field, LOL?

problem with keeping the loser is that you have split support. some players and fans support one guy, the others support the other guy. get rid of the loser and everyone falls behind one QB, and your team works alot better.

I am anticipating serious offensive line problems this season as old age takes it coarse on the right side of the line and we will need a good backup qb for the rest of this year because there is a real good chance our starter will get dinged up if not broke up...and theres no way you grab someone elses leftover veteran qb and effectively replace DA or BQ as a backup so my thougts are the loser stays and because the loser stays the competition is still on as mangini always insists its an ongoing process and the starter unless he proves himself is subject to change...

By next season the real starter should be determined in full and the other guy will be dangled out as trade bait to end the circus....of course there is always the possibility we get an offer we cant refuse for our backup which will leave the team vunerable this season because in my mind its not a matter of if our Oline fails its a mattter of when....🙂

I'd imagine he'll be in full swing as soon as Quinn (should he be named starter) loses a game.

    And rightfully so.

I did...and took it with a grain of salt.

I don't think the plan is to yo-yo, or be quick about it...but points is the key for i assume Quinn.

Just my take on Quinn ...BQ is going to live and die with his 3rd down passing as we are going to be in 3rd and 4 after 3rd and 4 as he comes from the Tim Couch school of qbing..play it safe and short...and I am not saying that as a jab...it is just the way it is and it can work.

I expect to see Dawson kicking lot's of fieldgoals with BQ at the helm.

I have a feeling you aren't paying much attention.

I think Mangini has his decision, but we may not hear it until a few days before the opener. Whether it's Quinn or Anderson, we'll see, but Mangini is all about preparation and not deciding on a QB would go against how Mangini gets ready for games.

I think you are right until the Browns either have some of their WR's develop quickly or they add some more next offseason.

I know Quinn takes a lot of flack for the screen plays and for some, they think it helps them with their noodle-arm argument, but it's a great play to have when the opposition starts blitzing. He seems to know how to run that play efficiently. However, what he showed on the BE TD is that he will find guys open 20 yards down field if it's there. Most of the time, unlike DA, he isn't going to force it.

If that is the case and it very well could be then we wasted a pick and alot of time,DA could never have been considered the leader of a superbowl contender,if you think so your dilusional.

This all gets lost because of people I wont mention but we had this kind of division when it was frye or anderson AND THEY WERE BOTH SHIT!!!!

Lets raise the bar damnit and if Quinn sucks lets get the right guy but lets find out first, this isnt rocket science.

    Folks,

How many starts has Quinn had? I say this because I HEARD Troy Aikmann on the Sporting News Night Radio Show last year saying that ALL QBs need the REPS to become who they are EXPECTED to be. This is a paraphrase of what Aikman said - "I was LUCKY I had Jimmy Johnson in my corner and that he was COMFORTABLE enough with his decision to draft me when countless Cowboys' fans wanted 1 or 2 more wins out of Steve Walsh in my first year. We went 1-15 but shortly thereafter I started to show progress and drop hints of whom I COULD be in my 2nd season of starts. It took me THREE years to get completely confortable being a starting QB in this league. I think the # of Superbowls we won proved JJ did the right thing by sticking with his gut." His point was to inform people that not everyone gets it as fast as Matt Ryan and QBs evolve at different rates.

Trust me when I say I would NOT have minded if DA progressed from his 2007 September and October. Trouble IS "after midnight he gonna let it all hang out." And he did, which is why we're constantly discussing the difference between hope and hopelessness.

If DA was REALLY the answer do we start out 28-10 losers, 10-6 losers and 28-10 losers for the early strike 3? We would lose another game 10-6 absolutely screaming BETTER Qbing required. And DA's remarkable regression led us to 3-6, which reminded me that September & October of 07 seemed like a really LONG time ago. We didn't fire the brass because the DA plan worked.

We've been ending up in 3rd and 4s because of our garbage running game, not because of Brady dinking and dunking. Last night, Daboll calls for a Lewis run up the middle and then a fullback trap and we end up with 3rd and 7 as a result. This team won't run the ball consistently this year with that play-calling and those guys running the ball. It's time to take the training wheels off Davis.

By the way, the Tim Couch school of QB'ing means to throw for three yards on 3rd and 4 and for five yards on 3rd and six. Quinn's a bit smarter than that.

Well they wouldn't of known that without running that play. That's why they call it pre-season.

So do I. Harrison would be great on screens and the what not. Lewis is too slow for screens, but is good for catching passes in the flats.

You're so full of shit on this one it makes me wonder if someone hijacked your account. Quinn is nothing like Couch, a QB who either threw it deep, dumped it off, or threw crossing patterns to KJ. Quinn has thrown plenty of really nice balls past 15 yds so far and with zip and accuracy. You don't see it? You're blind man.

Excuse me but WTF is wrong with 3rd and 4? I will take that all game long every Sunday. I think you meant get used to not seeing us in 3rd and 18 because DA can't run the offense.

None of your post made any sense. He is not dinking and dunking and he goes downfield pretty damn succssfully. Also, you're complaining about a screen pass that works????? DA sucked at them, BQ is great at them, and this disappoints you!

    Wierd.

It was only "almost" a pick because he throws a 5yd pass like it's a 30yd pass. His own incompetence saved him from that pick.

and tripped a ref on accident.

He didn't "trip a ref on accident." He was standing somewhere were HE WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE. But I guess it's the ref's fault for not looking out for DA. Funny that I've never seen a QB get a penalty while riding pine, yet DA managed to pull it off.

The man led us to a 10 win season, for crying out loud.

2 years ago against one of the weakest schedules in NFL history. Take out the first Cincy game, Miami, and St. Louis (3 of the worst teams in recent memory) and take another look at DA's stats and think about how many wins he "led" us to.

    our former starting QB.

about the only thing you said that makes sense.

You keep telling yourself that. It was a catchable pass that caught the defender off guard. Nobody is saying that wasn't a bad pass by DA, but this is the NFL, and everybody makes passes sometimes that they wish they could have back.

This was weird, but not a big deal, and it won't happen again. If that was Quinn, all you Quinn beaters would be rubbing your balls all over this thread saying how Quinn was being a great leader by taking interest in the game, or some ridiculous BS like that.

Well gee, even if you want to discount games that good teams prove their worth by winning consistently, then that would mean he led us to 7 wins. Isn't math great?

You don't see people subtracting easy wins off Tom Brady's resume, do you?

Your post reeks of ignorance and is one of the reasons why I rarely visit this board anymore. I personally am VERY happy to have a 1st round pick out of Notre Dame AND a Pro Bowl alternate QB on our roster.

Do us all a favor and don't return to posting until you finish humping Quinn's leg and formulate a realistic view of our quarterback situation.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if Mangini didn't announced the starter (publically, anyways) until game time. Of course, the team will know very, very soon who the starter is, if they don't already.

    -Al

  • DA gets named the starter... Lums will have the board to himself cuz the rest of us will likely fall over dead.

That being said... I wouldn't be surprised if Mangini makes us suffer through the last preseason game on this.. but I sure hope not.

  • I've felt pretty comfy on this from the beginning, now with great power comes great resposibility. 🥷
