Survey Monday...Browns/opponents survey
-
I think these are the two games we are confusing:
Sept. 14, 1992 -- Miami Dolphins 27, Browns 23 -- at Cleveland -- Bernie Kosar, unaware that he was playing on a fractured ankle, threw two TD passes in 6½ minutes late in the game and nearly led the Browns to their biggest comeback win in 26 years. The Browns trailed 20-3 with 11:53 left but managed to tie the score 20-20 10½ minutes later. But then the Dolphins drove 84 yards in five plays covering 1:08 for the winning TD.
*Sept. 13, 1993 -- Browns 23, San Francisco 49ers 13 -- at Cleveland -- Getting 10 points off four turnovers and holding the 49ers scoreless in the second half, the Browns improved to 2-0 by defeating a team that would advance to the NFC Championship Game for the second straight year.
A year apart, but in the mind today, they seem to mesh. I am not even sure Bernie was even with the team for this second game.

Here is this weeks survey.
Give your opinions
1. What is the most exciting game in Browns (or your favorite team's) history?
Browns vs Jets, Kosar and Browns won on fractured ankle in overtime.
Perhaps you are thinking about a different game, but I thought it was against the 49ers that Kosar was hobbling around on the fractured ankle, yet still managed to pull the game out. In fact, I believe it was a Monday night game.

There was that '86? Jets playoff game where Kosar fractured a couple ribs and won it in double OT.

Thanks, but now I have TWO all time favorites, that fractured ankle game, and the Jet's overtime game.
don't know when I confused those two. It has been a long time, ya know... GGG
Well, I still don't think we know the answer. Was it the Dolphins or the 49ers. We need help to answer this question!!

Checked the PD archives only story I could find about Bernie having a broken ankle was the monday night game vs dolphins we lost 27-23

I was going to mention the 1986 playoff win vs. the Jets too, but I remember we actually sucked in that game. We did nothing all day, then Mark Gastineau gift-wrapped our rally with a real stupid roughing-the-passer call, and Bernie saved the day.
Honorable mention for me are these other games:
Browns 27 Steelers 26 in 1980...Newsome catches TD in corner of the end zone, we take control of division
Browns 27 Steelers 24 in 1986....Three Rivers Jinx FINALLY broken!!!!!!!!!!!!
Browns 28 Oilers 23 in 1988...Don Strock rallies us to playoff berth in the snow
Browns 33 Seahawks 30 in 2007 (OT)

I was at that game in the pound. It was electric in there!
I was there too, the crowd was fantastic that day. You know how it usually is at the new stadium- the Club seats usually stay in the bar and don't come out for the 2nd half. I really think the crowd had something to do with the comeback rally in that game.

Yes, that is what I came up with as well. The 49er game was the following year. The same year I think the Browns went 3-0 to start the season with BK at QB, then I believe he gets hurt. Vinny comes in and does well. Vinny gets hurt as well. Bernie comes back in and wins some games. I believe the team started out like with a 6-2 record. Then there is the game against the Broncos, which the Browns are losing. BK changes a play at the line of scrimmage...as most experienced championship caliber QBs are allowed to do when they have a feeling for what is going on on the field. The changed play goes for a TD, but the Browns defense can't hold back the Broncos. Belichick gets pissed at Bernie because he changed a play (never mind the results of the play). Belichick's defense gets its ass handed to it that game, but BB takes it out on BK and benches him in favor of Todd Phucking Philcox, and later releases him. The Browns end up something like 7-9 after starting like 6-2. Belichick sacrifices that whole season just for the sake of his own vanity and ego (because the only competent QB we had, Vinny, was still out hurt).

15 December 26, 1993 at Los Angeles Rams W 42-14
16 January 2, 1994 at Pittsburgh Steelers L 16-9
OK, the Browns started 5-2 before taking their tailspin with Todd Philcox at QB. I think Vinny came back in at the end of the year for the win against the Rams. Look at all the close losses though: 7 points, 3 points, 2 points, 3 points, 7 points.
Imagine if they had had a decent QB in for some of those mid-season games.

Oh my...how could I forget about the Todd Philcox debacle. I'm pretty sure he started in the Kingdome (vs. Seattle) in one of the worst Browns games of all-time.

1. What is the most exciting game in Browns (or your favorite team's) history?
i grew up an hour south of Pittsburgh, just outside of Wheeling West Virginia. my Father was a Browns fan, his Father was a Steeler fan. i'd say it was probably 80/20 PIT/CLE loyalty in that area. maybe even 85/15.
when i was a young teenager i remember going to a Browns game at 3 Rivers with my Dad, his Brother-in-Law, and his son (my cousin). the game meant something to all of us, being locals, and games between the two were always exciting no matter if they played in CLE or PIT-regardless of the outcome.
well smack, smack, smack, that's all we heared nonstop on the way up from these two. "LLoyd's going to do this, Lloyd's goint to do that."
one of the first plays of the game they handed off to Mack...and he ran over Mr. Lloyd. surprisingly good sports, the stadium actually blared the horn for Kevin after the play and even had a picture of a Mack truck busting through a wall (or something close) up on their monocolor Jumbotron.
of course the party died down tremendously when the guy didn't get up.....and eventually ended up leaving the stadium strapped to a back board.
i don't even remember anything much after that, just hours of obnoxious celebrating and cheer. to tell the truth i don't even know if the Browns won. all i know is they didn't talk shit for years after that.
2. Who are your Top 8 Most Favorite Browns (or your favorite team's) players of all time?
Kosar, Matthews, Mack, Turner, Minni, Dixon, Metcalf,Slaughter--the personalities. sorry can't do 3, they're a set.
3. Who are your Top 3 Most Favorite NFL Players that did not play for the Browns (or your favorite team)?
Edwards...no, just kidding. as a kid: the Fridge, LT...maybe Deion.
now? probably Marshall Faulk, Tom Brady, Todd Heap.
4. Who are your Top 3 Most Hated Opponent players of the Browns (or your favorite team)
elway, porter, ward.
