How Much More Rope?

The Browns Board

  • No way we fire Mangini. I see real progress. We could be 3-0 as easily as 0-3. This musical chair game with coaches has got to cease. You give him AT LEAST through this season. Who in their right mind would want to coach in Cleveland if we fire every coach after only a few games?

  • Look at their record and look at the next 6 or 7 games on the schedule.

Does Mangini make it until 0-10 or does Holmgren make a move during the break week whenever that is?

Each year since 1999, I've been blasted for being too pessimistic. At year's end, however, my predictions were actually optimistic.

Let's face it, the Browns should be 2-1. I didn't expect a win against Baltimore but I certainly did against TB and KC - two teams in the same tier as the Browns.

Don't give me the Chiefs are 3-0 stuff. My response? Why are they improving and the Browns still walking around in the dark?

What is the over and under on Mangini. I say he doesn't make it through the break.

    Successor? Maybe Mucci

3 games over and throw everything out the window? Hope you're not rated in your job that way or you would be living under a bridge. Mike is not going to can him in mid season and surely not until it's over. Let's play it out, if only changing coaches would work everyone would change weekly.

  • I said before this season that I wanted to see improved play, regardless of record, & I AM seeing that. Mangini's inheritance of players here was close to NOTHING. He had Thomas, Cribbs, Dawson, Wright, NO viable QB, & little else. Since he has been here, we now have a VERY viable offensive line, 2 serviceable QBs, a MUCH improved defense, AND an excellent FO. Let's not rock the boat by ousting the current Head Coach.

Do we need more? SURE we do....a QB of the future (be it Colt or someone not yet here), play making WR , pass rushing DL & LB (our run defense is MUCH improved), & more.

I doubt if ANY current NFL Head Coach had less to work with than Mangini when they took on the challenge with their Team(s) & for the first time since the Brown's return, I am seeing real progress.....enough that I can suffer a little more while the TEAM is being built. Please note that I wrote "BUILT"....This is NOT a "rebuild" as Mangini came here with no foundation (Front Office), which we now have & it's a solid one.

Good things ahead, but we all have to understand that many years of neglect can't be instantly reversed.

PLEASE do not hit me with that "We're TIRED of waiting!" stuff. This is NOT the same leadership that put us in the hole we are now climbing out of...IMHO, we HAVE the organization that can & will pull us out, but they need time. Let's NOT go back to Ground Zero by pulling the plug on them.

  • We had the same thing going with savage/crennel folks...and we wasted a bunch of years vainly waiting for stability to mature and mangini is such a great coach he was fired after only 3 years and why are the jets rocking and fun to watch now....

Mangini is not the answer lookit he brings in daboll to a pro's job during a rebuild and we the fans are still suffering this unwarranted injustice..mr intelligence has no creativity other than to ram it down their throat which i personally love but you cant win in the nfl doing this alone anymore...

Im guessing primarily clevelanders who love to lose and divisional rivals love mangini, its great knowing you can outsmart and out hustle the genie and steal the game every week at will...

If this expansion continues down this path it will have absolutely nothing but clevelanders left for fans and we know that cleveland already has way to many stooler fans...

Its getting harder to respect this organization instead of easier as it has no guidance from its owner..

I like this. Think of the Browns as an old house. The last owners really let the place go to hell. Leaking roof, bad foundation, squirrels in the attic. Electric and plumbing shot. Where to start? The new owners come in and address the most serious problems first. After the big stuff is fixed they move on to the smaller yet no less important issues. Slowly but surely, as time and money allow, the condition of the house improves. Pretty soon the old place isn't looking so bad, people start to take notice. Within a few years the owners have brought the house from a dilapidated eyesore to a beautiful home that is the envy of the neighborhood. The house goes on to completely dominate the NFL for several seasons, achieving an undefeated season and winning 5 Super Bowls.

    Jets are rocking?

They had the same record last year (with two games that the opponents laid down for them to end the year) as the year before with Mangini. They are 2-1 this year. Mangini got fired from NY because he wasn't up Favre's ass like everyone else with Favre ultimately playing like crap down the stretch due to an arm injury that he decided not to tell anybody about at the time. Mangini left NY in fine shape with a very solid foundation that Ryan has just above .500 ball. It amazes me how much people buy into Ryan. He took a 9-7 team and went 9-7. Mangini took over a 4-12 team in NY and went 10-6.

Anyway, if you can't see that this team is improving and headed in the right direction (finally) then you are not watching very closely. But yeah, Let's get rid of another coach and start all over again. It's like some of you are addicted to the process.

  • Maybe being 0-10 is in the grand scheme of things.

Coaching for draft picks can get you fired.

  • absolutely do not fire mangini, the best example for sticking with a coach is Gary Kubiak. The texans have been horrible in years past but they stuck with him and they have improved and look at the texans now, they are challenging the colts for the AFC South, patience

  • Firing Mangini would be beyond stupid. Why do fans keep wanting coaches fired only to bring in a new guy with a new system that needs new players that will take time to implement and then want that guy fired in a little over a year in order to do the same thing all over again. Can you not see a pattern here? For Christ's sake, let's settle down and actually give a guy a chance. This team has shown that it can be competitive and that is without many playmakers.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Damnit! You took the words out of my mouth! If we keep continuing to blow it up, and start over, we'll never freakin' win!

    Perfectly stated!!!

  • Our defense, with last Sunday's exception being Eric "did I party all night?" Wright, has been terrific. Remember how teams used to run on the Browns?

Not much now. How the entire pass defense was pretty lame all the time? Not anymore, unless you pick on Eric Wright on a bad day.

Special teams are still terrific, except I wish our #1 punter was playing...

It isn't Mangini. If it was him, the players wouldn't be playing for him. But this team is playing with serious intensity.

I still question Daboll's playcalling. I don't see Daboll as being able to outthink a defense. He's better this year - the execution

is far better. This offense misses Delhomme, who makes quick decisions. I don't see Seneca doing that nearly as much.

But Mangini has learned from his stint with the Jets, and with injuries, well, Mangini stays.

  • "Hey guys! Mangini couldn't take us to the Super Bowl in one year, lets fire him and go pick up (insert big name coach who is out of the NFL atm). He'll get us to the Super Bowl next year! If he doesn't... well, we'll just call for him to be fired too!"

That's pretty much what threads like this are saying. How can you expect to move forward when we're constantly moving backward by blowing up every coaching staff after 2 or 3 years?

You don't have to LIKE Mangini, but can't you see that even though we're 0 - 3, this is a very competitive team with no real super stars or playmakers. Did you honestly think we would make the playoffs this year anyway with how much BS had to be purged from this roster last off-season? This team is on its way up, have faith and patience and don't push that panic button quite yet.

  • u got to fire mangina and dabol after this season even if we are showing a little progress but theres no reason were 0-3 ya mangina cleaned house but thats about it.even if we had an explosive young talented team do you really want mangina and dabol running it ? god think how depresing it would be then watch dabol lose game game by way of ignorant play calling lol

  • Here is what will happen if we fire Mangini:

    1. We hire a new coach. He gotta figure out what he has and what he needs and by then the first year is a lost cause and the fans will start doubting him.

    2. Second year we wont have enough players drafted for him to implement his system but the results will be slightly better but not what the fans want and now we will be keen on getting him fired. And we might too ...

    In the meanwhile,

    The Coach we fired,

    1. Gets position as a coordinator or headcoach of an average team

    2. takes his experience with him and has less worries and hence is able to concentrate more

    3. Hence is able to achieve decent to good results which obviously is better than the Browns and we will again go back to cursing our new coach.

Seems to be the way it goes here. I'm pulling for Mangini. Dabol... not so much, but I find it would be easier to replace an assitant or a coordinator more so than the HC. Our luck, Mangini does get the axe, ends up with a playoff contender and gets another Super Bowl ring. While I'm disappointed, and sick of losing, as evident of previous posts I still think Mangini can turn it around. I did expect us to be a little bit further along at this point in regards to wins.

  • As long as their is positive play coming forth from the team, the coach needs to be kept around. Once the team stops listening (if that happens) you have no choice but to let a guy go.

The Browns need a talent upgrade and that takes time. Getting a few playmakers on this roster will make a world of difference. Not sure if "Dabs" will ever be an amazing offensive coach....but HC's can be told to remove that, IF he's deemed as the major source of trouble. We need to keep Mangini if at all possible UNLESS, as i stated, he loses the team.

I actually do hope Lerner keeps Holmgren and Mangini. The Browns are an easy win and the doormat of the AFC North.

Two less games that we consider preseason games. We can rest our starters and still beat them handily.

Kudos to Mangini and Holmgren for keeping the perpetual losing tradition of the Browns alive and well!

ESPN just ranked the steelers number one in the NFL. Browns are 30th. LOL

Big talk sonny boy. The Steelers were once a doormat (and will be again, led by Ben the Baby Banger)....ask your Daddy, I bet he remembers their crap days.

What goes around comes around & hopefully I'll get to watch somebody shove your trash talk down your throat.

  • Livin in the past, are ya?

you still have a team that isn't dominant anymore. They test for steriods now. But, you still have

Troy Pollywearsahulaskirt who is still a cheap shot dirty player, although an excellent one...

If you had a case, you'd be on your own board. We'll see you after the Browns beat your squeelers right? Or will you have

other business to attend to all of a sudden, as usual?

Well Steeler fans have been saying Arians sucks @ OC for years, and they've seemed to do OK.
