A closer look at the finalists:

Sam Bradford, QB, St. Louis Rams

Bradford completed 23 of 41 passes for 289 yards, two touchdowns and one interception leading the Rams to a 20-3 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

    Joe Haden, CB, Cleveland Browns

Haden had six tackles and a pass defensed in the Browns' 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ryan Mathews, RB, San Diego Chargers

Mathews had nine carries for 55 yards and one touchdown and added one catch for 13 yards in the Chargers' 41-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Taylor Mays, S, San Francisco 49ers

Mays had 11 tackles and hauled in a blocked punt for a touchdown in the 49ers' 16-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Alterraun Verner, CB, Tennessee Titans Patriots

Verner had 11 tackles and three passes defensed in the Titans' 26-20 loss to the Denver Broncos.

  • You can go to nfl.com and vote for the 5 nominated for rookie of the week: Bradford, Taylor Mays, Haden, Ryan Matthews, and Alterraun Verner. You look at his stats for the week compared to the others; he doesn't deserve to win it. Since he's a browns player and we don't see them

nominated that often we should vote for him and try to have him win this week.

So? You think that a guy that had 9 carries and 55 yards and a TD with one catch is all that and a bag of chips?

I don't think they are looking specifically at tackles when it comes to a cornerback. CBs will generally not get nearly the tackles that a linebacker or a safety will get. I think they may look more at what their opponent DIDN'T do when it comes to CBs. Haden pretty much held Ochoblowhole in check. They went away from him and that is why T.O. had a big game...because Haden was shutting down OC.

I find this very accurate. If a CB has 10+ tackles it could very well mean (but not necessarily), that the CB in question is allowing WR's to catch the ball, whereas a CB with 0 tackles could have that stat because he played perfect coverage and didn't allow a catch. This isn't always the case obviously but its one way to look at the CB position stats wise. Regardless I have already voted for him and by the looks of how many users frequent this board we could make a difference in the outcome of this weeks ROTW!

Hell, remember that Deion Sanders was said to never make a tackle if he could avoid it. Yet he is likely to go into the Hall of Fame as a cover cornerback.

True, but the average fan won't recognize that. But what about Ward, why wasn't he nominated the first two weeks with 11 tackles each of those games. Was it mostly because it was in a losing effort or they hadn't recognized him much at the time.
