I thought of doing this as a trivia quiz, but since it was so late in the week I'll just give this info as "factoids":

    1. Coaches that have won multiple Super Bowls: Chuck Noll 4, Bill Belichick 3, Joe Gibbs 3, Bill Walsh 3, Mike Shanahan 2, Jimmy Johnson 2, Bill Parcells 2, George Seifert 2, Tom Flores 2, Tom Landry 2, Vince Lombardi 2.

    2. Multiple Super Bowl MVPs: Joe Montana 3, Tom Brady 2, Terry Bradshaw 2, Bart Starr 2

    3. The only Super Bowl starting Quarterbacks who are now deceased are Johnny Unitas and Steve McNair.

    4. The only regular annual sporting event that is watched by more people world wide than the Super Bowl is the UEFA Champions Final. (Euro soccer).

    5. The Super Bowl is a Nationall Special Security Event as designated by the Department of Homeland Security.

    6. CBS has broadcasted more Super Bowls than any other Network. This year will be the 6th one for FOX.

    7. Miami with 10, New Orleans with 9, and LA with 7 have hosted the SB the most times.

    8. Roger Goodell has stated that he is considering awarding a Super Bowl to London's Wembley Stadium.

    .

    9. The NFL is contemplating doing away with the Roman Numerals for Super Bowls starting with what would be Super Bowl L or Super Bowl 50. They are also contemplating putting Super Bowl L or 50 in Los Angeles even though that city has no NFL team to commemorate the first Super Bowl played at the LA Coliseum. (current rules state that a SB must be held in an NFL city.)

    10. The NFL tried to copyright the term "The Big Game" as a substitute for The Super Bowl, but were shot down because that term had been applied for many years to the game between Stanford and Cal.

    11. Cleveland is the only NFL city to have neither had a team play in the Super Bowl or hosted a Super Bowl.

    12. Since 1983 the Super Bowl start time was changed to begin in the 6:30 PM Eastern time slot, a regular network hourly program has aired after the game in the 10:00 hour. The programs that have aired the most time succeeding the Super Bowl have been The Simpsons and Survivor.

    13. Budweiser has had the most commercials during the Super Bowl in its history.

    14. The most successful "counterprogramming" to a Super Bowl telecast was a special episode of comedy sketch program In Living Color in 1992 which featured the Wayans Brothers and Jim Carrey and David Allen Grier. The other somewhat successful counterprogramming is "The Lingerie Bowl".

    15. Jerry Markbreit has been the head official (the Referee) in the most Super Bowls: 4

    16. Billy Joel and Aaron Neville have been the only individual performers to sing the national anthem at 2 Super Bowls.

(Marlee Matlin has done the synchronized sign language at 2 plus some bands have performed at 2).

    17. John Elway is the only QB to start in 5 Super Bowls.

    18. But, Charles Haley is the only player to play on 5 Super Bowl winning teams.

    19. Mike Lodish and Don Beebe are the only players to play in 6 Super Bowl games.

    20. There has never been a punt return for a TD in a Super Bowl game.

    21. The smallest margin of victory in a Super Bowl game was 1 point. Giants over Bills 20-19 in SBXXV.

    22. The on air broadcasts of SBs I, II, IV, V no longer exist and cannot be seen. SB IV only exists because it was preserved by Canadian television.

    23. Shania Twain and The Blackeyed Peas (when they are done on Sunday) will have been the only acts to have performed at halftime of both a Super Bowl and a Grey Cup Championship game (CFL).

    24. In 1966 the Rolling Stone had their lyrics censored for the Ed Sullivan show. Forty years later in their 2006 Super Bowl halftime appearance their lyrics were again censored by the broadcasters of the Super Bowl.

    25. To bring it full circle back to Factoid #1, though Noll is the only coach to win 4 Super Bowls, Dan Reeves, Don Shula, Bud Grant, and Marv Levy were the HCs of 4 Super Bowl losing teams.

You can get some pretty big chunks of it though on Youtube.

              Another fact:

Super Bowl III starting QB Earl Morrall was later the Quarterbacks coach for the University of Miami. His charges include Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, and Vinny Testaverde.

Morrall also later became the Mayor of Davie, Florida and while Mayor he got the Miami Dolphins to move their training facility to Davie.

Former Super Bowl QBs Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach both are part owners of the San Diego Padres....and they are both part owners of a NASCAR racing team featuring Terri LaBonte.

Aikman and his wife just separated on 1/24/2011.

On Roger Staubach, while in the Navy he served a tour of duty in Vietnam before joining the Cowboys.

In 2010 he was named by the fans as the #1 Cowboy of all time.

He also served as the Chairman of the local Committee that headed the effort to bring the Super Bowl to be held Sunday to Dallas.

After his retirement from the Cowboys he started a real estate development company that came to be worth Multi-billions of dollars with 70 offices throughout the country.

Facts on SB QB Terry Bradshaw:

*Bradshaw once held the US record for the javelin throw.

*Though the Steelers do not retire numbers, no player for Pittsburgh has worn #12 since he has.

*In his senior year in college at Louisiana Tech his team played in "The Rice Bowl" against the University of Akron

*Bradshaw has donated his 4 Super Bowl rings, his Hall of Fame trophies, both college and pro, and his Championship trophies all to Louisiana Tech.

*He put together a group to purchase the New Orleans Saints after Katrina when it was thought that it was possible that the NFL may want them to permanently move to San Antonio. Saints owner Tom Benson however was able to keep them and keep in in New Orleans.

*Bradshaw is the ONLY former NFL player to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

Facts on Super Bowl QB Len Dawson:

#The Alliance Ohio native chose to go to Purdue over Ohio State because he developed a friendship with a Purdue assistant coach by the name of Hank Stram.

#Dawson was drafted by the Steelers but cut, then he was picked up by the Browns but lost out on the starting job to Milt Plum and was cut, so he decided to hook up with the Dallas Texans who were coached by his old friend Hank Stram, and the rest is history. The Texans won the AFL title their first year together and after moving to Kansas City won SB IV.

                        # Perhaps most interesting however is that Len Dawson is the seventh son of a seventh son and thus by lore is imbued with certain mystical, magical powers be they divine from God or from the Devil.

The only other well know 7th son of a 7th son is Perry Como:

Here are some facts on a couple of well known SB QBs:

*In the 1979 Major League Baseball draft, the Kansas City Royals in the 4th round drafted a high school pitcher by the name of Dan Marino. In the 18th round of that same draft they picked a high school pitcher by the name of John Elway.

Neither pitcher signed with the Royals.

*Ben Roethlisberger is a FRAK. Though a native of Ohio, he idolized both Joe Montana and John Elway. However, he chose to wear #7 in honor of Elway rather than the 16 worn by Montana.

*John Elway's son Jack played for Dennis Erickson at Arizona State Univ. Erickson was the offensive coordinator for John Elway's father Jack at San Jose St. The younger Jack Elway has since left the ASU program.

*John Elway was a fraternal twin with a sister Jana. Jana died of lung cancer is 2002.

Facts on Super Bowl QB Jim McMahon

#In the 1980 Holiday Bowl, McMahon's BYU Cougars played the SMU Mustangs featuring Eric Dickerson and Craig James.

With 4 minutes left in the game BYU trailed 45-25, but in those 4 minutes McMahon's BYU team scored 3 TDs to win 46-45, the last play of the game being a game winning Hail Mary pass.

#In his first meeting with his new professional coach, Mike Ditka, McMahon went into the meeting holding a beer in his hand. Ditka was not impressed.

#McMahon now states that he has some memory loss issues that he attributes to concussions suffered in his playing days.

#McMahon wore sunglasses a lot not just to appear cool. At age 6 he suffered a detached retina and since then he was sensitive to light. He was among the first NFL players to wear tinted visors.

#McMahon was the backup QB for the Packers when the won the Super Bowl in 1996. But when he and the rest of the team visited the White House, he wore his Bears #9 jersey, which pissed off a lot of Packer fans. His explanation was that the reason he wore his old Bears jersey was because when the Bears were scheduled to go to the White House after the '85 season that visit was cancelled due to the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger

                                On Joe Montana:

*His middle name is Clifford. When he was making a spoof TV spot the producers thought that his real name already sounded like a made up stage name that was too "cool" so they wanted something more normal, so he called himself Joe Clifford.

*It seems that Montana was bound for stardom and success. After all he went to "Ringgold" High School.

*Montana now owns a winery in the Napa Valley that goes by the label Montagia.

*The city of Ismay, Montana unofficially changed its name to "Joe".

*Montana's son Nate is a backup QB at Notre Dame. He is not really expected to be a serious challenge for the starting job though. However...

*Montana's son Nick is a redshirt freshman at the University of Washington, and was one of the most highly recruited QBs in the country and is expected to possibly become a star QB there.

Asked a friend of mine about #3 as a fun trivia question... first name he said was David Woodley. He was correct.

Started Super Bowl XVII vs. the Redskins for the Dolphins (youngest starting QB ever in SB at age 24). Died in 2003.

How about an inferior defense can lose you a championship? A lot of the blowouts that ran up your point totals were against teams that made the SB on the strength of their offense. Denver? Oakland? Yup.

Maybe so, but when you look at teams who usually make the playoffs and usually advance in the playoffs are the teams who are near the top in the most important team statistical category...scoring defense.

If you are good there, you are going to be around for the end game.

*End game doesn't have to mean the last game

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Saw something the other night on ESPN that triggered a little searching by me. It was stated that only six WR's had been named Super Bowl MVP. Didn't sound right, so I went looking and checking. By God it is right. There have been seven RB's named MVP and QB's have been MVP 23 times, some of them multiple times (Montana/Bradshaw/Brady/Starr). There have been eight defensive players named MVP, and one KR (Desmond Howard SB XXXI).

But this kinda startled me. You know who has the most MVP's? Ain't Pittsburgh, it's Dallas with seven. That's right folks, seven. How did that happen? Well, in SB XII Randy White and Harvey Martin were Co-MVP's so that gets them to six instead of five. But they also have the distinction of having the only MVP to be named from the losing team. Chuck Howley in SB V.

                                          Off season sucks.
