Carolina Concerned About Dl's Health In The Draft

  • Does anybody really think they would draft one of the qb's? Gabbert? sp? Cam Newton? That would be a gigantic gamble, I think.

They may nab Paterson or A. J. Green if they aren't sold on the Dl's at their first pick.

That would set the draft off crazy. Putting Newton, Gabbert in the same list with Peterson seems ridiculous.

According to two league sources spoken to by the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers are "not sold" on drafting a defensive lineman with the No. 1 pick in the draft.

They are reportedly concerned about the health of many of the draft's top defensive lineman, and are set to take "long looks" at both Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert. Observer writer Joseph Person speculates they may even consider LSU CB Patrick Peterson. Although the Panthers have a huge need along their defensive line, they are most concerned with landing an impact player. Newton, Gabbert and Peterson would all fit that bill if Carolina decides there's no lineman worth taking first overall. Source: Charlotte Observer Mar 5, 4:24 PM

  • it's really hard to tell what a team wants/doesn't want during pre-draft talk. they could be baiting someone who's desperate for one of the 3 mentioned players into a trade. who knows? i just can't wait till it gets here. this is going to be a really interesting draft.

  • I think it is pure smoke.

One of the QBs will go top 3. Carolina wants whoever takes them to think the picks goes through them.

I don't think Carolina would mind trading down a few picks picks for the right return.

  • Yeah i dont think Carolina really wants the Top Pick and hopes they can get someone to bite and come grab it off there hands, but i also feel like no one wants to move up to take any of the QBs because they know they'll be there, as does Carolina knows if they traded back a couple spots they could still land a Impact D-lineman

  • on local media outlets and beat writers here in charlotte there's growing mumblings that they REALLY like A.J. green, but are having a hard time justifying it with the first pick. These reports are true, there's been more talks that they really want to draft offensive talent over a DL. I also heard on the local radio that there's growing rumors that Fairley is losing favor with the panthers organization, but that's sheer speculation at this point.

As far as trading the first pick, there's always a possibility but the bottom line is there isn't a player good enough (a la bradford last year) that would be worth trading what it takes for the first pick.
