The Browns Board

  • The thing that is extra frustrating is that I keep hearing browns fans state that a team like us doesnt need Free Agents, cuz we aren't on the cusp, But last season we played a tough schedule and where in alot of the games we lost. This season I was expecting us to sign some depth and maybe some veterans to fill some holes on are roster. We have a much easier schedule than last season, So is heckert and holmgren trying to get a high draft pick? Its gonna be tough for us to beat the bengals for that top pick if that is there plan!

To think any team doesn't need FA's is ridiculous. That being said there's a difference between filling holes with free agency and dishing out long term contracts and big money for the top FA's.

Before the lockout ended a thread came up about peoples wishlists, and so many people had one of the top 5 players from each position. Not only is this highly unrealistic, it's counter productive.

Yes our receivers are slow, but does anybody here know for fact how they will be able to produce with a better offensive system and more consistent qb play? No, because it is impossible to.

So instead of signing a sims-walker or rice, why dont we evaluate what we have, and if all of them prove to be lacking in whatever way and they don't cut it, cut them. Trade them. Don't resign them. But don't make hasty moves based on a limited timeframe with the least wr offensive coordinator I have seen in any level of football, Canadian or American.

Do I think we need to sign depth players on defense? Absolutely. Do I think we should have signed a madden equivalency of a 80-85 rated defensive end and a solid nickel corner? Yup. Do I think Tom Heckert knows more about football than all of the posters on this board combined? Yessum.

It's ok to wine. It's ok to criticize? AbsoF***inglutely. Just do it intelligently people. That's all I ask

  • We have zero talent at w.r. and somebody wants to sit back and Tell us how our F.O. knows football? Cribbs is no key reciver he is a bad ass return guy.

  • Thank you! We have zero talent.. in fact cbs reported today that our wrs were having trouble getting any seperation on slants. This is the west coast offense..

It does not take a football guru to see the obvious. Robiske would not make another nfl roster let alone have a chance to start. Cribbs is a return guy, sad thing is he was our best threat last year.. momass would be great on a team with a solid number 1...

The fact of the matter is, we had a chance to get better at wr with out throwing out a huge contract and didn't. When the season starts and you see how pethetic our wrs are, who will you blame then??? Brian daboll??? Terry robiske??? Lindy infante???

Prediction... our wrs will suck so bad, that mccoy will look terrible. We will have no idea if mccoy is the guy so we will not be able to evaluate him..

    Heckert and holgrem are idiots....

  • ok...Im gonna explain this once...The WCO sets are mostly 2 WR's...1 RB 2 TE's or 2 WR's 2 RB's 1 TE's...very rarely do you see 3 and 4 WR's in the formations of the WCO. If Robo and Momass dont get it together. You will see lots of Evan Moore at WR and Little and or Mitchell. Book it!

considering were counting on momass or mitchell to have a break out year it isnt good. People will stack the line of scrimmage and Hillis will be worn down or hurt..

As of this morning, Braylon is still out there. (i'm not kidding)

Shows you what the rest of the league thinks about his talents- or lack thereof. Randy Moss is still out there too- hell, let's bring in both of them!! Just kidding.

  • Does anyone on this board honestly believe any of the top tier FA players would even consider signing in cleveland for any amount of money?

If you do you are dreaming, these mercenaries for the most part have the luxury of picking who they want to play for and most of the time they want to go to the option that gives them the best chance of showcasing their skills and winning, they do not want to be on a transition team like the browns to where they dont know if they have the support cast or even if they will have the same coaching staff next year...

I will say this, many of the guys tom heckert is bringing in come off to to me as perhaps being way underestimated when watching available footage, yeah they are not well known or going to put the browns all over the current nfl network spotlight but some of them will most certainly prove to be huge upgrades and some will be solid additions and some of course will not to make the cut..

We really need to evaluate the new systems and see what we have and what we will still need to be somewhat competitive this year and yet be staying young and growing, heckert has summed this up numerous times and has made it quite clear at least to me that we will be building from the draft and that he will only bring in FA players if he feels they can fit in and benefit the system and even then only if both the money and age are right..

I have braced myself for the likely hood of a ruff transition year but i can still remain optimistic that maybe we at least have a good coach and maybe we have a talented GM and maybe we can win 8 games because right now we really dont have any idea of exactly what we have and what we need..

Dont forget we will get another crack at FA later and heckert/shurmur will have a much better view as to what we need to be as competitive as we can be.

  • Gip is right. No top FA are going to come to the Browns, not at this point of their development. Once they show that they have a good core and can be competitive the FA's will be willing to become Browns.

I doubt we'll see many 2 TE formations. That's rare these days. I would take Robo and have him play almost like a TE either line up as a TE or have him off the line of scrimmage and not between the line and a wide out. Little will be a starter! Cribs is not a wide out and don't kill me for saying this but he isn't what he was a returner either.

Just decided I'm going to the pre-season game against the Lions.
