Hopefully he doesn't get hit or have to make a tackle. We'd have to find a new kicker!

Damn it, I love our new punter.

Noticed he hit the 1st 20yd kick with his left foot.

I'm guessing that the FO just looked through the waiver wire, saw his name, threw it into google/youtube and went for it. As much as I like good/quality analysis of players, I think it would be awesome to see the kid succeed this season. I have a hard time thinking it will happen though. Undrafted in '06, short stints with the Eagles/Bears... never kicked in a game. I couldn't find anything about whether he had kicked in semi-pro / arena while he wasn't on a practice squad.

I'm guessing the Browns knew exactly who to find available, and he became available.

McGee didn't beat out this guy for the Eagles:

I really love the pick up.

01/09/2011 - 2011 SENIOR BOWL INVITE: Four members of the Florida Gators are hoping Saturday's thrilling Outback Bowl victory over Penn State isn't the only bowl victory they'll be celebrating this month. Safety Ahmad Black, punter Chas Henry and offensive linemen Mike Pouncey and Marcus Gilbert have all accepted invitations to the 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl. The senior showcase event is set for 3pm (CT) on Saturday, January 29th in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game and all practices will be televised live by NFL Network. Henry claimed the Ray Guy Award (nation's top punter) this season and was a consensus first team All-America selection (Walter Camp, the Associated Press and Sporting News). He finished the regular season this year tied for the national lead with a 46.4 yards per punt average. A first team All-SEC selection by the coaches and AP in 2010, Henry booted two of the ten longest punts in school history this year with a 75-yarder against Alabama and a 67-yarder against Mississippi State. He also filled in admirably as a place kicker this year, going 7-for-11 and nailing a career long 47-yard attempt in the Outback Bowl. Henry finished his career with an average of 43.0 yards per punt. - SeniorBowl.com

<LI sizcache="6" sizset="294">Full Chas Henry News WireOverviewHenry, the 2010 Ray Guy Award winner as the nation's best punter, lived up to his billing as the best high school punter four years ago during a sensational career with the Gators. Aside from being a great punter, Henry offers service as a holder for field goals, a place-kicker himself and a kickoff specialist. The only concern is the three-step punter issue, which didn't result in any blocks in college but might in the NFL if it is not changed.

                              Analysis

Positives: Punter prospect has a booming leg and led the country with a 45.1-yard average as a senior. Never had a punt blocked at UF in over 100 career attempts. Extremely accurate, roughly 40 percent of punts went inside the 20, while less than 10 percent resulted in touchbacks. Can also kickoff and place-kick, going 7-for-11 on field-goal attempts with a long of 47 in 2010. Was the holder for field-goal attempts as a junior. Negatives: Despite having no punts blocked at UF in four years, first step is with left foot (left, right, left, punt with right), for a total of three = three-step punter. NFL may want to change that to just two steps.

and the Bears cut him after getting their 37 yr old punter back.

                                ****************

Source: Bears will sign punter Richmond McGee

                                February 9, 2011 6:28 AM | 1 Comment By Brad Biggs

Brad Maynard said all last season that he was hopeful to return to the Bears in 2011.

While the team got modest contract extensions finalized for long snapper Pat Mannelly and defensive tackle Matt Toeaina before the season ended, Maynard is one of the 14 players on the roster set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Now, perhaps the team has his replacement in place. Richmond McGee will sign a reserve/futures contract this week, according to an NFL source, bringing a familiar face back into the fold.

The 27-year-old Texas product has been a camp leg for the past two years and got extensive work last offseason when Maynard was working his way back from arthroscopic hip surgery. McGee spent a week on the practice squad in 2010 and had a week on the 53-man roster at the end of 2009.

McGee has been viewed as a candidate to one day replace Maynard, but it's doubtful he'll be given the job without competition. If Maynard is re-signed, the veteran would automatically become the favorite to be the punter in 2011.

Maynard turns 37 on Wednesday and only two punters in NFL history have kicked more than him. While he didn't have his best statistical season (40.1 yards gross average, 35.2 yards net), he's a directional punter who fits special teams coordinator Dave Toub's system well, and he played several games in difficult windy conditions. Maynard has been a big part of the highly ranked special teams units over the last seven seasons.

But the Bears keep bringing McGee back because they believe he has a future. They'd move on to another free agent if they didn't see potential in him. As was reported here on Dec. 28, the Bears brought in four punters for a tryout during Week 17. They looked at A.J. Trapasso, Brent Bowden, T.J. Conley and Australian Dan Power. Clearly, they believe McGee is the best option right now.

Whether McGee is essentially insurance for Maynard remains to be seen. The Bears may want to wait until the labor situation is resolved to address contracts for veterans. The futures contract McGee will sign is binding, but it will not take effect until the first day of the new league year when rosters can expand from 53 to a maximum of 80. However, Maynard doesn't figure to be in line for a big pay day, and the Bears could sign him now without impacting cash flow at Halas Hall.

Not sure if we're knocking Jordan Cameron but espn reporters listed Jordan Cameron as the best prospect pick up for the Browns in this draft (Said without Taylor coming to camp yet)

Seperation off the line, knows how to get open, and incredible speed to be honest i think this guy will surprise some people i might be willing to go as far to say he will be playing for us this year more than you think.

                                  Old report post pick

Cameron possesses the athleticism of a high-flying basketball player and has amazing pass-catching abilities. Cameron benefitted from a very top-heavy tight end draft class and was selected by the Browns in the fourth round of the draft. Expect him to blossom under the right tutelage in a West Coast offense in Cleveland. Plus, he's got a video with Blake Griffin as his hype man. Can't beat that.

In Cleveland failure is an artform.
