Browns Get "luck"y Per Todd Mcshay

Hopefully with our schedule there's no way we're going to be even close to the #1 pick, or at least let's hope haha. If the season pans out the way it does, I see the dolphins for sure ahead of us and there's no doubt in my mind they'd take luck. However, I wouldn't put it past Holmgren and crew to create a draft package to get the guy either. I like Colt and think he has the tools to succeed, but Luck is a once in a decade talent. He's a franchise changing player that's for sure.
-
I dont think we'll have a chance to land Luck ethier, unless we have one 1st round pick in the top 10 and the other at least in the top 20 of the first round..Not to mention we'd have to be willing to give both of them up, as well as a team really take a pass on Luck.I Dont see to many teams that may have the first pick just do that Dolphins,Chiefs,Seahawks,Colts etc.
-
I don't think we'll be the #1 pick but you can't say just cuz we're 2-2 we are out of the running. There's still plenty of season left. Its not out of the realm of possibility that we do get that #1 pick. Possible but not probable.

QB is not our weakest link. We need WR and DB in the first round, OL in the second.. and although the idea is nice, I really don't know how anyone with two brain cells to rub together would think Miami will have a better record than Cleveland.

DB, S, LB, OL, WR. let's see how colt pans out the rest of the season under the new system, which seems to me has set every player on this team back another year. BS on the short camp. every team has had the same problem.
what happened to cincy being one of the worse teams in the league and that we were gonna run all over them??? is it just the rookie QB? doubt it.

I love seeing them 0-4. I like Peyton Manning as a player and person but his coaches cost us the playoffs in 2007. Blah blah Derek Anderson blew it vs. Cincy. They laid down, then laid down in the playoffs, muahaha.
The Browns won't pick #1 unless they trade up. There are far worse teams in the league than the Browns. My money is on the Dolphins to have the first pick they just signed Sage Rosenfeld. The Colts a close second.
I agree regarding Dungey and having his players lay down and take dives he couldn't get the Bucs over the hump. It took Gruden 1 year to do it with a McKay built team. The Colts won the SB because of Manning and despite of Dungey.
Say what you will about DA but he got the Browns 10 wins and all they needed was a little help which happens to plenty of teams. Sure ultimately it was up to the Browns to beat Cincy but a little luck and a little help never hurts. Dungey made the Colts lie down (or rest as he called it) then they were blown out in the 1st playoff game. Coaching Guru what a joke.
Don't give up on Colt!

What I want to know is- what's McShay smoking? To have a realistic shot at Luck the Browns would have to lose out, or at best (worst) win only one more game. That's not happening, with all deference to Ghoolie. 4-12 won't be bad enough. Luck is such a talent any quarterback needy team that would draft ahead of us- Dolphins, Seahawks, KC, Colts (Manning isn't getting any younger) will draft him regardless what the Browns would offer- and the starting asking price would be both our #1s and Peyton Hillis, and that might not even be enough. The only teams that might be willing to trade out of the #1 would be the Rams and Vikings IMHO.

The only problem with this mock is that it was done in May i dont think Cleveland has a real chance to land Andrew Luck honestly...As long as a team that needs a QB gets the 1st pick id take more than a kings ransom to get him, good luck trying to trade up and get him its not going to happen.

I do believe Minnesota or Indy has the lock on Luck. But like I said before it could still happen.
Blackmon for 2012!

Are you guys crazy? NOBODY-IS-TRADING-THE-NUMBER-ONE-PICK-OF-THE-DRAFT.
Do I have to repeat myself?
NO ONE is passing on Andrew Luck. (I personally believe his last name has something to do with it. People actually probably believe this kid will bring good "Luck" to their team if they draft him...
)We are going to end up 6-10 and end up using BOTH of our first round draft picks. And NO, we aren't going to trade up for the number 1 slot. NOBODY is that stupid to do it---unless we give up BOTH 1st rounders this, and NEXT year's #1 AND HILLIS. You'd be a fool to make that trade.

you're being pretty naive man, I mean think about it as of right now. What teams if the season ended today would draft above us: rams, dolphins, seahawks, vikings, colts, chiefs, broncos, jags, panthers, cardinals and eagles. Of all those teams, the only ones who don't a QB in the wings is the dolphins, seahawks and colts. If any of those other teams fall to the top spot, they'd be more than willing to drop down 9-10 spots and get another first and i'm sure a second for luck. Don't just assume things.

i dont understand how people say we have two outstanding drafts in a row.. Why cause we didnt blow our first and second rd picks??
tell me what have we done in later rounds??? larry asante, clifton geathers, jordan cameron, carlton mitchel???
guys we need to start hitting on rds 4-7 if we want to build through the draft..

I really think Carlton Mitchell can be great saw him at USF, and one of his former team mates at USF works for me, he tells me Mitchell could be an all-pro WR, but he is very soft, and never plays hurt. Said hes a pretty boy who does not like to get dirty!!!! He said its a shame cause he has all the tools!!!
My employee also was one of the Wide-outs that was on jon Grudens show with Pryor, he said in all 4 yrs he played Collage football, he never seen anything like Pryor on how big and fast he is and his arm strenth. He was amazed..Granted How many QBs did he face like Pryor at USF the past 4 yrs

You're kidding, right? Of those teams, the only ones on your list who wouldn't draft Luck would be the Panthers & Rams. The other teams would eventually trade their starters- or starters in waiting- for draft picks, and take Luck. Denver would gladly unload Orton for whatever they could get.
And Luck is a special case- you can probably throw the draft value chart out the window. For instance if the Browns were drafting in the 9-10 range, even value says it would take both our first rounders, plus a first rounder in 2013. and that's minimum- you'd probably have to throw in a player like Cribbs or Hillis on top of it before a team would bite. Let's look at it from a historical perspective- when's the last time the #1 overall got traded? I can't remember- and the reason is obvious- it costs too much to move up into that slot.

McCoy, Lauvao, Pinkston, Skrine is what. Yeah- I threw in a third rounder- not bad for a starting quarterback- but really finding starters in rounds four and below doesn't happen often, take a look at the last five or so drafts and you'll see maybe one or two guys from each round that have stuck with teams and actually made an impact.

Do you really think that the jags, vikings, broncos, cardinals (who traded many picks for kolb) or otherwise went 1st round QB would just throw that out the window and start over? I mean i'm not saying i'm right here, but I find it hard to believe that despite the talent people would just give up on their guys they picked that quickly. I actually agree now that I think about it that denver would probably take him, and possibly the chiefs.
You're right, it's never been done before. But that doesn't mean it won't be done in the future. This has been a wacky year. Several teams with first round rookie QB's and solid starters are in the cellar right now. and if I recall correctly, Holmgren did at least put in a call about doing it for bradford a few years ago.

Mel Kiper said that the only player he has ever given a higher rating to in over 30 years of doing his draft analysis than Andrew Luck was John Elway.
Is it just coincidence that they were both Stanford QBs?

Sorry but I don't give two shits what Kiper says. He's an air headed bafoon.

Trust me- it won't happen in 2012. It's going to take way more than whatever Holmgren offered for Bradford to move up. Ponder and Gabbert aren't in the same league as Luck, and they'd be unloaded in a heartbeat. Though I do agree- the Cards have a ton invested in Kolb- OTOH, assuming he has a respectable year, Arizona can peddle him to another team for essentially what they gave up, draft Luck, and still come out ahead of the bargain.
