Don't get me wrong i love Phil Dawson. He's proven to be on of the leagues most accurate, clutch, and elite. But i can't stand teams gettin a chance at lightning in a bottle after a rare browns score. To many times I've seen this year where kickoffs are being returned from the goal line or better. With the new rule change and half the kicks in the nfl ending up in the seventh row the browns can not afford to give up any cheap touchdowns. With a weak offense and a really good defense i like our chances if teams had to go 80 yrds every time.

Don't believe its wasting a roster spot if it actually benefits the team. Sign a kicker who can absolutely boom it off the tee please. With the exception of on side kicks cause again we have have the leagues best when it comes to on side recoveries.

Amen, the guy just kicks two 50+ yard field goals to win a game, and that's not good enough? BTW, not everyone (save Janikowski) is routinely kicking them out of the end zone.

I'd suggest getting a new special teams coach first- and someone other than Cribbs that can actually cover kickoffs.

Hey juggernuts i said nothing about getting rid of Dawson. Just get a guy to handle kickoffs. Read the whole post before premature replying please. In a league where there is going to be a record of unreturnable kicks (well above 50%) why let teams even return one especially after a score.

Ravens did it with stover for example. Dallas did it few years ago.

Well teams could have a punter do kickoffs I suppose but Maynard wouldn't even kick it as far as Dawson. Hodges could probably kick it out of the endzone but obviously is of no use to us this year. Overall it's not worth spending a roster spot to sign someone to do kickoffs. We just need to get better on special teams.

Lmao....ok. who is available with the leg, and who do you cut to waste a roster spot on said "specialist"?

Five touch backs worst in league.

24,9 avg starting field position tied for fifth worst.

Plus i don't want the franchise player making tackles when everyone else can't.

Not wasting roster spot if it benefits

not a bad idea actually, ive thought about it a fair amount. Love Dawson and will obv keep him but a player that negates a run back on kickoffs 85% of the time would be valuable. Idk who I'd cut but it may be worth it if that player never sees the field.

I can't believe this was so quick to get shot down.

Wait, yes I can...most people on here don't think "improving the team" consists of anything else beside nabbing all the league's aging WRs.

A KOS wouldn't be a bad idea, many teams are doing it. With the new kickoff rule, why not just take returns completely out by booming it out of the endzone or 9 yards deep. With our lack of coverage on kickoffs, it would greatly improve our chances of not being scored on.

Sadly, I don't see us using a roster spot on a KOS. Holmgren, like a lot of people here, doesn't seem to value special teams. If he did, he wouldn't have let Seely(?) go.

We should have kept Billy Cundiff. That kid had a boot, and is quite accurate to boot (get it?). He would have been a good replacement for Dawson whenever he decides to retire. But, like I said before, keeping two kickers isn't a high priority.

Even if we give up a touchdown that ultimately is the difference in the game. How often will that be the case tho.[Oakland] plus im sure cribs won us a few

I have to agree we could use a kos. I would think any Browns fan would understand the importance of field position considering we have had the luxury of Josh Cribbs returning punts and kickoffs for us. If we can take out the kick return, wouldn't that be worth a roster spot? This factor alone could be the difference in a game or 2. Jim Tressel didn't put a high priority on special teams for nothing. That being said, we are not going to sign an extra kicker this late in the season.

The Panthers did something similar when they went 12-4 a few seasons ago.

I don't know if it's worth a roster spot, though.

Sweet! If getting us a kick specialist will get us that record then I'm in.

Really its not a bad idea but with all the holes on this team you really think anyone in the FO is gonna be looking for a kick off specialist?

In Madden my punter I picked up does the kickoffs. Lol.
