D'qwell Jackson

what's the status of his contract?
i know we extended Gocong (for the life of me don't know why)...
but isn't DQ a free agent at the end of the season?
he's been our best backer...
has he been tied up?

He is a free agent at the end of the year.

Anybody know if they're talking?
I remember reading about Mack... but that was a while ago...
haven't seen anything about DQ.
he's proven he worth to this team.
we've gotta get him in the fold.
hopefully he WANTS to come back.
we need more guys like Haden who want to be Cleveland Browns.

I don't think we will see any new signings until after the season is over, especially when it comes to Jackson. The point with him is that we and the management know he can play, but what we still don't know is if he can stay healthy for a full season. If he tears his peck again before the season is over, or has some other chest/shoulder/trap injury he won't be resigned.

Exactly. Jackson needs to last a full season before we talk about re-signing him. Then, if he can last the entire season, the Browns should re-sign him to a 3 or 4 year deal with lots of incentives. It would be stupid to give him too much guaranteed money since he is injury prone, but we need to give him enough guaranteed money to keep him in Cleveland. So whatever that amounts to haha..

From what I have seen Jackson is nothing special. His injury history and mediocre play hopefully will not get him a long term deal. He doesn't have the aggressive downhill playmaking ability a good mlb should have.
If Jackson is willing to take a cheap 2 year deal he will make an excellent backup, but don't let his stats fool you.

Jesus are you kidding me. Injury history should be the only reason giving him a contract should be a questioned. His play should not. DQ was a good MLB in the 3-4 and he is a really good MLB in the 4-3. He has around 90 tackles 2.5 sacks 1 FF 2 FR and 1 INT along with about 2-3 TFL a game. Unless you think we can grab a Willis or Lewis type MLB in the draft, we are set at MLB. Honestly at this point people saying the DQ isn't good are just haters, the same people who claim Haden sucks because he had 2 average games this season.

Agree with HIB on this. DQ might not be elite, but he is not why we are losing games. Letting him walk creates another hole to fill.

D'qwell is a decent player. He would be a solid second unit LB with the Steelers or Ravens.
His large amounts of tackles have a lot to due with the fact that nobody else in Cleveland was making tackles for a long time.
This is not what you call a MUST signing. While he may be our best defensive player, he is not a talent that we should pay out the ying yang for.
His signing or not signing will be inconsequential as he isn't an impact player in any sense of the imagination.
We did okay to take him at 34, but he is a B quality player, at best.
He is better then a back up. He certainly isn't an elite MLB but certainly nowhere near a back up. Stop hating and get your head out of the Steelers and Ravens asses. For once I want you to admit someone on this teams worth. We have very few players that are good and we suck ... we get it already. Your nonsense about Haden and DQ being crap is idiotic even for you though. They are both very good players.
And Haden who you also don't think would start on the Steelers (and Ravens??)is completely false ... He is hands down better then any CB on both those teams.

Oddly, I agree with Ghoolie. I think Jackson is a mediocre Middle Linebacker. For as many tackles as he makes, he is more often out of position, or getting run over....and it is the Browns backfield that has to make the tackles. He may be better than anyone else currently on the roster at MLB.....and God knows I think we need more help at the OLBs...who are substantially below average, but I personally don't see Jackson anywhere near Pro Bowl caliber.

He definitly isn't a pro bowler ... but Ghoolies claim is that he is a back up which he also isn't. He is a solid starter.

DQJ is our best LB and if we are going to build to be a contender then we need to sign players that are productive and DQJ is productive no matter what you think. Resign but don't give him Ray Lewis, Patrick Willis or Urlacher money because he is not that good, he is not a game changer.
