They can't trade him because he will be a free agent. I don't get why they wouldn't want to keep him for the remainder of the season. Especially because he could be headed to the Chiefs. With Denver in the thick of the division race this moves makes no sense as it could really help the chiefs ... not just to fill the QB void with no Cassel, but also with game planning against them.

Exactly. They have too much money tied up in QB's.

Someone, probably Chicago, will absorb his $2.5 million salary. That will free up a little more money for whoever they decide to draft. Landry Jones is my bet.
