Jags Sold

Here is a link to a story about the Jags being sold:

The claim is that this Shahid Khan ("Shear Khan?) is going to keep the team in Jax. I have my serious doubts. He is a car dealer from Illinois. What loyalty does he have to Jax, when he can be lured to take that team to LA. Wayne Weaver said that as long as he owned the team it would not be moved.....well, he won't own it for much longer apparently. Khan says that he won't move them, and he might not....but only because of the ironclad lease that the city has on the team.

This will likely be the people of Jacksonville's reaction when it is announced that the Jags will move to LA:

I found a video of Roger Goodell and Shahid Khan dealing with the people of Jacksonville:

And here are the people of LA getting jiggy with their new hero Khan:

It will be tough for Kahn to move the Jaguars, but as we've seen, the improbable becomes the possible.
My quick research shows:
The two biggest stumbling blocks are the NFL Relocation Committee put in a rule (post Modell) a team can't break an existing lease to move, and like the Browns, the Jags have a "Specific Performance" Clause in their lease with the city, and the lease runs through 2030. (Weaver extended it).
"Leaving before 2030 would require the Jaguars to prove they had lost money in three consecutive seasons or to convince a local judge that the city was failing to properly maintain Alltel Stadium.
And even if the Jaguars showed a financial loss for three consecutive seasons, getting out of their lease still would be costly for the team. The Jaguars still owe more than $60 million in rent that would have to be paid to the city in a lump sum in the event of a move.
The Jaguars also would have to immediately reimburse the city for millions of dollars in lost ticket surcharges, lost parking revenue and lost income from stadium naming rights."

This is why the Chargers are still the most likely team to move. They have an option every year starting after the Super Bowl until like April 1st to trigger an escape clause in their lease and they are free to negotiate with any other city and leave San Diego for the upcoming season. With the shitty season they are having, they are unlikely to sell out their remaining home games (they aren't sold out in advance). It wouldn't shock me to hear that they will be playing at the Coliseum or the Rose Bowl for the next 3 years while the new downtown stadium is built.
